The great thing about the Caroline is this: Whether seated at the bar or by a window looking onto the passerby and the square, you're suddenly transported. The sophistication & big city feel of being in Chicago or a borough in New York is yours for the moment. Without the traffic or the expense! This is a good place for Troy's square and I wish them more success than previous downtown attempts. They serve mostly American food but it manages to be an eclectic surprising menu. It's a little pricey but good value for the portions. It can get pretty loud and is a bit cramped. Maybe they could rearrange seating for more comfort? The seared ahi, mushrooms, and flatbread pizza appetizers are good. Their salads are pretty standard and most entree options I would call meat and potatoes. I've only tried their steak but it does not disappoint. The house steak is even boneless which is nice if you're lazy or squeamish. They have a full bar with a wine list, and some house cocktails. Not as many draft options as I expected but Guinness was nice. Maybe there are 10 to 15 seats at the bar with tvs. I'd love to go back and try seeing a game there with a steak. It's not quite a fancy restaurant and not quite a bar, but the food is so good that you'll make it work for either. Actually, I had dessert which I never do save special occasions. The chocolate cake was pretty good but the coffee icecream covered in chocolate syrup and chocolate covered espresso beans was amazing. Definitely bumped up the whole experience for me (an icecream and chocolate lover) to 5 stars. read more

Great food and a great atmosphere that highlights unique art in their dining rooms. My favorite restaurant dish is the Vegetarian Thai sauté. It is amazing. It is vegan on its own, or you can add a protein to it. Their grilled salmon is always excellent. The bourbon mushrooms are terrific. My husband loves the shrimp pasta. The Caroline is one of the better restaurants in Troy. They have a good variety to their menu which is predominately urban american. I prefer their lunches as they seem to be more reasonably priced for their quality. The Ruben Burger is terrific, and the Caribbean Jerk Chicken with manga salsa is my favorite (although, I believe it's seasonal), and the Too Gouda Salad is a must. My only qualm, is that some meals don't fit the standard of their others. Also, their customer service wavers. One night it will be terrific, another it will be terrible. read more

Have eaten here a handful of times over the years and the food has already been up to expectation. I recently asked for a seat with a view and my request was granted. I got a burger and sweet potato fries. There was a mix up with the fries and it was quickly corrected with no issues. I will say the bread is lacking in its flavor. It has this odd taste that does NOT leave you wanting more...maybe that's the idea. read more

I was looking for a decent steak. Although when I saw chicken French on the menu. I had to get it as it is not on many menus. This was NOT a good choice. They put chicken filet grilled thrown on a bed of sauce. Not tender, no egg wash, lemon sauce was weak. It was Dry chicken. My reco you take it off your menu. The reason I gave you two stars was due to the creme brûlée. The service was slightly below average. Likely not coming back. read more

We went to The Caroline with great expectations, sadly they were not met. The wait was pretty bad, 2 hrs waiting for food, and seeing people that came later than us getting their orders. And the best answer we got from the waitress and later the manager is that kitchen was very busy, not even sorry. The food was mediocre at best, probably due to kitchen being"busy", most of the time we needed to ask for refills on drinks. I don't think we'll ever want to come back. Very pricey for not so quality of food. I went there with a group of girls on a Thursday evening. The ahi tuna appetizer was subpar. The fish and chips were heavily breaded, so greasy I had to pull the breading off and just eat the fish. I told the waitress to check the date on the coleslaw because it tasted rotten, I actually spit it out because I didn't want food poisoning. She just shrugged her shoulders and said she would check. Nothing to the nature of "oh thanks for telling me, I'll take that off your bill". I had much higher expectations. Will not be returning. read more

Overall, good experience. The French Onion soup is fantastic. They offered free surf in turf with any steak order on Monday night. I picked a crab cake with my filet. The filet wasn't just ok compared to what you get in an upscale steakhouse. The crab cake was good. I went here with my girlfriend for a special occasion to get some good food. When we arrived we had a little bit of a wait, but they told us we could sit at the bar and wait till a table was ready. I loved how friendly they were and I loved the service at the bar. When we got to our table they were even more polite. I ordered the steak and so did my girlfriend. I got my steak medium rare and she got hers medium. To my surprise they came out perfect. To end the night we got the cheese Cake and boy I'll tell you what... some of the best cheese cake I have had in a long Time. I really recommend giving this place a shot. Just passing through for a couple weeks on travel, seen the Caroline driving downtown. Walked in to find a very nice up scaled restaurant. Was greeted and seated quickly. The server Megan was fantastic, super nice never had to wait for a refill, she said she made a mistake and gave us a free beer. We don't know what the mistake was but wasn't going to complain with free beer. The food was perfectly cooked. I had a steak medium rare with a baked potato and a crab cake. And they had blantons on the drink menu. Definitely recommend this restaurant and ask for Megan to be your waitress, she was awesome. read more

We went to this restaurant with another couple due to other restaurants in the area being very busy because of a festival going on downtown. I thought the server was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. I ordered the apple pecan tilapia and to this day I still have dreams about how good this entrée was. The flavors complemented each other so well, and it really hit the mark for me. We got the chocolate cake for dessert, which was ok, but we probably shouldn't gotten the strawberries with Kahlua sauce. The price is a little on the high side, but I thought it was definitely worth it. We will definitely be back. read more

My husband and I were travelling and wanted to get off the highway and find something other than a chain restaurant for lunch. I am so glad we drove the extra couple of miles to Troy, OH. This was the 4th beer tasting I have been to at The Caroline and I was more disappointed each time. The appetizers have been the same with the exception of having chicken at one. The normal has been meatballs, meat on potato skins, meat in a phyllo pastry and cake the only difference in each was they used different beers in each item. The beer tasting last night 11/13/19 seemed like someone had forgot about it and food wasn't planned or planned very last minute. When the chef says he had leftovers and made something with it makes my stomach turn, why are we getting leftovers at a restaurant? read more

What a disappointment this place was....got the "Chef's Special" Filet ($32)and there was nothing special about it. We both ordered the filet Medium rare and both came out Medium, almost medium well with what looked like a blackened sear. Sent them both back...the replacements came out with with the same blackened seat and barely medium...the "fresh" green beans were actually frozen, way over-cooked and over-salted. I ate here twice in a row for dinner. Both times I had the filet with the Caroline salad. I also tried French onion soup on one visit and found it to be hearty but slightly too salty for my liking. I did enjoy my steak, salad, and veggies. The one night I had the Kahlua strawberries for desert...SO good! I would've tried something else on my 2nd visit, but had been satisfied with the filet and decided to stick with it. I would definitely recommend to anyone in the area. It's in the cute little downtown area. Service was prompt, friendly. I would say get a reservation because the difference between 2 nights in terms of how busy they were. My only complaint...which is more of an observation than a complaint...is that the menu prices were a little steep for what you get. read more

Not sure why they got top ratings here in Troy. Nice atmosphere, but the menu, simply put, is kinda lame. Nothing wrong, per se, just boring. This said, my expectations for exciting food in The middle of OH is probably very inappropriate. So I moved from a table to the bar where I was VERY attentively served by Amy. Hendricks and tonic make all good, but the shrimp cocktail was unremarkable. I recommend Basil's, across the Market Street circle where I had lunch, instead. Once I finish my drink I'm heading that way. But know the service i recieved, and the service provided by Amy to those around me, was noteworthy. read more

Local or just in town for a visit, the Caroline is a must stop place for dinner. The chef has an amazing palate that shows in his weekly divine specials. The sea bass my wife and mother ordered was wonderful. This is one of the only places in Miami County that knows how to properly Pittsburgh a steak. I went with the NY Strip, you should too! We celebrated our anniversary here and, boy, did they treat us well! Had half price wine and appetizers at the bar during happy hour and Amy kindly gave us a round of drinks on the house when she found out it was our anniversary. We were then seated at a nice window table and Chelsea, our waitress, continued with great service. The prime rib was cooked perfectly and the green beans were delicious! We finished off the meal with complimentary chocolate cake. Food, staff, service, and atmosphere are all top notch! Highly recommend! read more
