We didn't try the food, I didn't get any beer, but we were there for a local band night with our not-so-local band. Parking is drastically lacking, but we found some form of parking near a wall on what seems to be a storage place. And they seem to be one of the few places that allows smoking indoors at a designated smoking table. You know, not that smoke stays there, but okay. Whatever. I can survive to an extent in a secondhand smoke cloud I'd rather not be in, but if management wants that, great. I would like to return to try their food menu, however. It was still a pretty nice venue for a local bar in the middle of nowhere in Lancaster. I don't think I can get over the smoke, though. It wasn't a big issue, however. Well ventilated to a point. But, well, there's driving to Lancaster. If you're not already there for some reason, probably best not to make the trip.

07.19.2014 Tonight…read moreis the last night I will ever patron the Longhorn Inn until they change their ways. I encourage all people of color to refrain from spending their hard-earned monies at an establishment that shows total disregard for the physical and mental well-being of its employees and their patrons of color. Tonight, I went there to celebrate the birthday of a friend and what should have been a joyous time quickly turned sour when another patron made a very racist comment in front of me. Apparently, he blames members of the Black community for being kicked out of a certain high school. (I'm sure his bad attitude concerning Black people in general is why he got kicked out.) His statement included using the "N-word". A few people have mistakenly thought that I am a Pacific Islander and will make racist statements not realizing I'm really an undercover Black girl. Because I'm half-Black , I was extremely offended. Because the Antelope Valley has a problem with racist gangs, I felt it was better not to cause a scene and possibly make myself a target of violence by confronting this person. I told a friend (who also works here) about this experience right after it happened. Not only was she not surprised she knew exactly who this was because this person was a repeat offender several times over. This person has loudly claimed their "white power" status in front of them and made statements using the "N-word" in their presence. Even the door person knew who this was acknowledging this person's previous grievances regarding his race-hatred statements. She stated that it makes her very uncomfortable, as a Black person, that they allow this repeat offender to come back and patron this bar. And since her employment options aren't bountiful she can't just walk away from her job. After relaying my experience with the door person, he had a "talk" with the offender and allowed him to stay in the bar knowing the history this person has making offensive statements to people of color. I felt this was not enough and spoke with the owner who also admonished this person's behavior, but still the owner allowed him to stay. Without action that clearly shows that there are direct consequences for bad behavior the offender is free to repeat it because there are only empty threats of being asked to leave. This needs to change as it creates a hostile environment for the both the employee and patrons of color. This is not acceptable and I decided that I would leave because I do not want to spend my hard earned money somewhere that would allow their employees to be treated in such a way I made sure to let the owner know that I was leaving and why and they seemed to lack understanding of the nature of my decision. And I explained to them why and they said that they had told him that if his behavior continued she would kick him out. They asked me what I wanted her to do. It should be obvious; he should be permanently banned from this establishment. He is a repeat offender and cannot be held to an "honor system." What he said to me will roll off me like rain on a duck's feathers, but my friend should not have to work in this kind of environment. Maybe I'm not a big spender, and my contribution to this bar will not be missed. That's ok. Maybe not a lot of people will boycott this bar because of what I'm writing. But if you go there and someone racially offends you understand that while this bar may "talk" to this person to placate you the offender is free to come back and harass you or any other person based on their race, gender or orientation again and again. I choose to say no. No, I will not patron an establishment that allows their employees to work under hostile conditions. No, I will not spend my money somewhere where repeat offenders are slapped on the wrist. I choose to stand up for what is right.

The wait staff was pleasant enough, but all the additional charges are out of hand! I had ran into this issue here, previously, as well as at the NEW Coach's just earlier today. We ordered one dozen wings. We asked for the six flats of the order to be "mild" and the six drums to be the spiciest they have (which is not spicy at all). We asked for them to be extra wet. My wife likes ranch with hers, while I like blue cheese. When the ticket is presented, there are up-charges for ALL FLATS and ALL DRUMS, a charge for the blue cheese, a charge for ordering the wings wet. Seriously?! First of all, I had spoken to a manager at this location previously about the up-charges for separating the flats and drums to different flavor profiles. The manager agreed that I should not be charged for this and removed those charges. In discussion with the manager at the NEW Coach's, earlier today, the same consensus was relayed. STOP CHARGING FOR THIS! Look, I could understand if I was ordering six or twelve wings and asking for all of them to be drums or flats. When one orders twelve wings, which is generally equal amounts of drums and flats, why am I attempting to be up-charged twice for having one sauce on all the flats in my order and another sauce on all the drums? Why are you charging me for another dipping sauce on an order of twelve wings? You give one dipping sauce for an order of six wings. You think one dipping sauce is compatible for an order of twelve? You charge me for asking for our wings extra wet? The only reason we ask for them that way is because the wings are nearly dry if you don't. And, the little dollop of sauce that came with the wings was hardly worthy of being called "wet". I had to ask for more sauce because there was not enough to even consider them being viewed as wet when they arrived to the table. This place is going downhill; quick, fast, and in a hurry since the transition to new ownership. Coach's used to be a place we could enjoy going to and count on their menu staples being available (if they weren't sold out!). The fried green beans were in high demand. So much so that they were sold out when we went, a few times. Their pretzels were also a huge hit! The new owners removed them from the menu. I know they have had numerous requests to bring them back, but they couldn't care less. The food has gone downhill, the wait staff is not as lively and personable as they used to be, the extra charges are ridiculous, and the new owners don't give a rat's a$$ about their customers; they only care about trying to make money (while removing a couple of the best selling items on the original Coach's menu). Make that make sense! Remove sell-out items when your only focus is about making money. The only reason I am giving two stars instead of one is because the waitress was halfway attentive. Good luck with your future, as you continue to lose previously loyal customers!

That's how we wound up at Schooners today. Food: Super large portions. Not many healthy choices. We ordered the fried zucchini. It had a nice seasoning but it was too greasy. The caprese salad with vinaigrette was soggy and beyond disappointing. Figured that was the healthiest choice on the menu. I couldn't eat more than 2 bites. The loaded baked potato was swimming in melted butter. A lot of butter. The bacon was actually the star of the plate. This place is where you come to share several plates. Service: Great. Jamie T. was our server. She was super friendly and had such an upbeat personality. She checked back with us several times to make sure things were going well. Originally we just came in for drinks, but somehow ended up ordering baked potato soup too... and I'm so glad we did. I ordered both the watermelon cocktail and the tamarindo cocktail. The watermelon one unfortunately didn't really land for me since it tasted more sour than fruity, which was disappointing. But the tamarindo cocktail? Absolutely delicious. I'd order that one again without hesitation. My husband ordered the peach margarita and loved it as well. Now the baked potato soup was honestly the star of the visit. It came served with tortilla chips and was way better than I expected. I assumed the bacon would just be tiny sprinkled bits, but nope! They gave actual CHUNKS of bacon, which made the soup even better. It was my husband's first time trying baked potato soup and he was completely sold. As for the restaurant itself, it was okay. We came earlier in the day so it wasn't too crowded, which was nice. The atmosphere personally wasn't fully my style since the music was pretty loud and the lighting was a little darker than I prefer, but that's more of a personal preference than an actual complaint. Customer service, however, was excellent. Overall, we'd definitely come back, especially for the tamarindo cocktail and the baked potato soup alone. CHEER
