Everyone said, "You have to get fish and chips while you're in Skegness." So, for lunch, I figured that's what I would have. Fish and chip shops are everywhere so it was difficult narrow it down, but I was near the beach and thought saw this cafe with seating inside, upstairs, and outside, and thought it would do.
Even though I know that it is probably part of British beach-going tradition to have sand in your fish and chips, but I already had sand in places I shouldn't have (and hadn't even gone in the water), so I decided to sit at the cafe, outside, but blocked from the sand blowing around. You order at the counter, they give you a ticket, and they will bring your food to you.
The problem with having fish and chips on a plate instead of wrapped in paper is that there is nowhere for the oil to go. The fish and chips looked good, however the chips were not as good as they looked. Really they could have used a few more minutes in the fryer as they seemed slightly under cooked. The fish on the other hand... was delicious! It was haddock with the skin still on (which I don't usually like, but I ate it and it was fine) and the amount of batter was just right. It seems like most places have more batter than fish, but this was just right. And it was cooked till it was a darker golden colour.
Overall, not a bad experience, but if the chips would've been better, it would've made the whole experience perfect! read more
