Sun, sand, shopping and good food. You couldn't ask for a better beach party! The boardwalk at Fort Walton Beach near Okaloosa Island is a fun location that opens out onto the beach. There is a kite shop, a gelato shop, several boutiques and restaurants. The bottom area is shaded with several different seating areas. There is a huge parking lot, but it can be really crowded. We have always been able to find a parking space, but sometimes it has been way in the back. There are handicap parking spaces near the front. The pier is located next door. With the beach, ocean and three sand volleyball courts, in the front, and the pier next door you could make a day of it at The Boardwalk. At night, AJs, one of the restaurants, offers live music. Every Wednesday night at nine pm there is a fireworks show shot from the pier. The Boardwalk also offers other events throughout the year. read more

Always love coming here for parking and the entrance to gorgeous Florida gulf coast sand. You can get all the souvenirs you could ever want, all the way to upscale beach apparel. They have great food, coffee and gelato to fill your belly or get you sauced if that's your poison. There is sand showers to wash the sand off on the way back to your car as well as a playground for kiddos. They have beach volleyball courts always up and costs nothing. If you're in the are and are looking for some quality sand time. This is a good stop. read more

Boardwalk full of shops and eateries located in fort walton Florida. My family and I stopped in at this place our first night on our family vacation after a long day of traveling. The rocking taco is what brought us here. We he no idea it was part of a big boardwalk shopping area. They had some cool places to eat and they he typical beach theme surf shops. Massive parking lot to fit all the visitors and had beach access all along the shops. Overall we had fun here. Rockin tacos was good and we used the beach access to play on the beach at night and enjoy ourselves for our first night on vacation. read more

Love this beautiful spot! There are fun restaurants and shops to check out, and it's convenient location next to the gulfarium makes it easy to spend the whole day in this area. The beaches and boardwalk are well maintained, with picnic tables under overhangs that make for pretty lunch spots. You can rent umbrellas or bring your own set up. We spent two separate days on the beach as well as starting each day off with lunch in one of the restaurants. We ate at the shack the first day and Floyd's shrimp house the second day. Both restaurants we ate at had beautiful views of the ocean, both had great staff and yummy drinks and food. Prices might be a bit higher than eating inland some where, but you're on a beach! We did a little shopping in the stores and we were able to find some non brand fun clothing that didn't look totally touristy. The beach itself was beautiful white sand, clean and plenty of room to bring your own set up, we rented an unbrella the first day and brought our own on the second. Restaurants and shops right on the Gulf are all good reasons to stroll the boardwalk at dusk or into the night. All lit up with flashy store facades, the dinner hour can get quiet hectic and parking does become a problematic. It is free to stroll the boardwalk unlike its neighbor the pier. 5/15 As I write this, I realize many locals will be asking, "Lady, haven't you ever been to the beach before?!" The answer is, no, not really. I know I went when I was about eight but my memory is not that long. First tip, go during the off season! We went on May 15th, a Monday morning, and got primo parking at the Boardwalk. The Boardwalk is cool. It's a bunch of restaurants and some shops and home to a pretty damn good gelato shop. The best part is that you can walk right through to the back and have access to the gorgeous beach. White sand. Gorgeous blue-green water. Spectacular. It was already approaching 90 degrees, so as the season goes on, God help you. Too hot for me. Here's some tips. Don't forget your hats at home. Use 1000 SPF everywhere -- and don't forget your face! When you DO forget your face, don't post a selfie on Facebook! People come out of the woodwork to implore you to use sunscreen. For the record, I only had spray stuff and before I could borrow my cousin's lotion, my little guy was off and running. Bring a gallon of water (more if you can lug it down the sand). Dehydration is just around the corner. Save yourself. Walking back to the Boardwalk after sitting in the sun is just plain comical. It's like uphill and one step propels you forward about two inches. Do yourself a favor and go up the three steps to the literal boardwalk and take the easy way out. I had to step up about a foot to get in the pavilion and I needed help! I bashed my leg...just take the steps and act like you're cool. (You'll thank the Minnesota lady later.) There is also a shower there to rinse off the sand and salt water. Take advantage! The bathrooms are huge but they're poorly lit (or maybe my corneas were burnt...I forgot my own sunglasses, too). The biggest tip of all - get in the water. Don't worry about how you look because no one cares. I now have an awesome memory of getting knocked over by a wave and taking my son with me. He informed me that he "was not a fan" of the salty water and was done with the ocean. Luckily, sand castles and a kite kept us out there a little longer. While the beach life is not for me, I can see why people love it. read more

I really like the boardwalk because there are multiple restaurants, surf shops and souvenirs stores. There aren't as many offerings though as say Pensacola or Destin's Boardwalk. I love Fort Walton Beach because it is great for outdoor water adventurers. One of the beach parks in Fort Walton is widely popular for surfing and catching waves. We also found a lot of seashells. It is also a good spot for bird watching because they have many seagulls along the shoreline. read more

For $2 I actually enjoyed the Boardwalk a lot! From above I was shocked how much fish you could see. We saw a baby shark swimming and dark schools of fish swimming around in circles. They sell drinks at the beginning of the pier and fishing supplies. They also have a bathroom that you can use without paying. Every Wednesday at 9pm they launch fireworks here too! There had an insane amount of firing tubes laid out the day before so I am excited to head down there soon to watch! read more

I love the boardwalk at Okaloosa island FL! I found some of the cutest souvenirs to take back home from our trip. Bought shirts and some seashells and unique items. Gorgeous views of the ocean. Loved coming here with my family! The shops are small and cute, there is live music and corn hole. We even watched Peter Pan on the beach and that was a really special experience. I loved being able to walk a few feet and have different things to do. Would come here again! read more

We stumbled upon this place and had a blast. The beach was not overcrowded and the waves were really nice. I loved the restaurants along it and just a great time. My only knock is the pier cost $2 per person just to walk out on it. I understand charging fishermen but $2 just to walk out there? Nope not paying that read more

Had a horrible experience, there were dead fish EVERYWHERE by the thousands and even more visibly floating on the water, I was so disgusted that I turned right around and left. Before completely leaving I decided to try to get an energy drink from the vending machines which were broken and I ended up getting a water instead of the energy drink and given incorrect change back, I tried to get this resolved but neither the business owners nor the actual boardwalk staff knew how to help me simply telling me that if I wanted to talk to someone higher up I had to go "somewhere in Destin" but they didn't know where in Destin, on top of that some guys were harassing me and there were no security officers anywhere in sight, very unprofessional. read more

Crab trap was delicious and got 8 of us in in no time even on a busy night. My children loved playing outside on the playground while watching the fireworks. Shops are limited, but the ones they have have items for any age to pick up a souvenir. Fun family friendly atmosphere. read more

Worst experience ever!!2 hour plus wait time and the worst food ever. Will never be back there. Prices are outrageous. $4.81 for a beer $13 for a hamburger that went in the trash the wait staff was not friendly at all. read more

The best thing about this place are the bathrooms! Not a joke these are some of the nicest public bathrooms you will ever see. They looked like they belonged in a fancy restaurant. Other then that a bunch of it was under construction and everything else is way over priced. It does allow you to spend a day at the beach and take care of all your needs. read more
