I think it's probably a big place to stop-off on the way home for the business people coming back from Londontown. But I certainly wouldn't know anything about that at all. Really. I'm sure. As an American expat leaving near Marlow, I frequent this pub for the simple fact that they have Blue Moon on tap. Blue Moon can be found at ripoff prices in supermarkets but why buy it at the shop when you can enjoy a glass at a pub? I have never eaten at the Marlow Donkey and probably never would unless I was really hungry and in that case, would order a basket of chips (aka fries). The food is priced as though it is general pub food which is scary as I have had far too many bad experiences with pub food.

Wetherspoons are useful because they're a known quantity - if you spot their logo, you know that you'll find a selection of drinks and beers as well as a reasonable menu of regular items and specials. Nothing too out of the ordinary, which for many folk is perfectly fine. Lots of seating, with a few electrical sockets near the tables. Free wifi. There are some tables outside where smoking is permitted. These are right on the Kennet Canal, which is practically like being waterside. If you go for that sort of thing. I didn't have anything to eat today, but I saw several people with meals that they were clearly enjoying. It was a mixed crowd - some young parents with their little ones, a few grannies having a meal after a day of shopping, some mates having a pint and socializing. All quite friendly, as they do well in the UK. Would I return? Yep.

We arrived late and looked for a place to eat after the long flight. And The Moon and Spoon caught our eye. The atmosphere was just as to be expected. Lively pub with friendly wait staff and plenty of locals. My wife was having a bit of jet lag, and the beer and delicious food hit the spot. We ended up eating three meals there in the following days. It really hit the spot. Everything was hot and fresh. Food tasted great. We had Bangers and Mash from a tourist trap in a local town, but these were definitely better. If you're in the area and looking to grab a pint and a cheap but tasty meal, definitely check them out.

It's a real shame, since it's one of the few pubs where you can sit out in the sun in the late afternoon - the other pubs' outdoor areas are in the shade at this time. I went there a year or two ago, and the manager had written a letter ticking off the staff for being incompetent and had pinned it to the front door for all to see! Shocking! It's a great meeting place for anyone living in the village. It's still a bland family-friendly chain pub with cheap food, but... a fairly decent and spacious one. There were two draught ales on tap - both Greene King (landlord) beers... and in good condition, but... come on guys! Let's have ONE decent guest ale! The outdoor seating in front of the pub is in full sun until late evening in the summer, but with speeding traffic rat-running through the village, and a lack of green space, it's not as nice as it could be. But I think there's a back garden too; I haven't explored. All in all, a safe bet.
