Olivia and Alan are a charming couple who warmly welcomed us after a long day's drive. It was quite chilly in Dunedin that day, and there was a fire blazing in the oval fireplace in the parlor. We were in the Rose Room, which was lovingly restored to all its Victorian beauty: no detail was overlooked. We were thoroughly comfortable in this cozy room. Even though seemingly out-of-place, we were pleased to have free access to WiFi during our stay. A bonus in staying here is if you happen to be a guest while Alan is in residence, as he is a world class chef. We never had such excellent breakfasts at a B&B before! Though, we were told that Olivia is quite the cook, as well. We will have to return sometime soon to find out. By the end of our stay, we felt we had made new friends.

We stayed in the Blue room, which was nicely decorated with victorian style furniture. You can definitely tell that the owners have put in a lot of effort in setting up each room. There was a kettle and a nice tea set in the room which was lovely as it was a chilly day. Breakfast was good ! There were several choices of toasts/ cereals. Olivia was definitely a good cook. My plate of tomato/eggs/bacon was YUM ! My only complaint would probably be the bathroom. For the Rose & Blue room, the bathrooms are across the hallway from the rooms. I did not like having to tip toe across the hallway to use the bathroom in the middle of the night ,just so I dont wake up other guests. But to the owners' defense, this is the layout of the house, not much they can do about it without breaking the bank account! Before we left, Olivia gave me another hug :) Definitely the friendliest host amongst all the B&Bs Ive stayed for my NZ trip.

Pros: The place is very cozy and homey, with an awesome garden and outdoor deck area. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with windows that looked out to other hilltop areas. We slept with the windows open to make use of the puffy comforters! The lounge is always open, with hot water for coffee or tea readily available. Cons: The beds were a bit soft by my standards. The television didn't turn on, not that we really needed it. Surprisingly, there was only one toilet and one shower for the three or four rooms upstairs, which seems a little on the skimpy side considering the number of people who had to share them. The lock on the toilet room wasn't sturdy enough so knocking was a MUST. The shower drain was clogged (ew) by the time I showered early in the morning. Breakfast fell a bit short, being "continental": basically carb overload, with bread, muesli, wheatbix, and cereal offered alongside a large bowl of yogurt and sliced fresh fruit. The location also left a little to be desired, since it was a bit of a drive from the downtown area. Bottom line: an alright B&B experience. For me, the cute things about this quaint guesthouse won me over. And as long as you're okay with sharing a bathroom and shower, I'd recommend it.
