I'm so excited to have a bookstore in the union square area! We stopped by on our last trip into the city and were not disappointed. It was nice to walk into an organized and full store with people reading and discussing the latest best sellers. I have a sweet spot in my heart for bookstores that showcase books about the local area and the San Francisco table exceeded expectations. There were a few that are already in our collection and many more we get to explore. I'm looking forward to stopping by more often and picking up some enjoyable books.

Oh my goodness this is the most charming little shop. I love how I am greeted by a table of books, each of which is accompanied by a handwritten recommendation from the owner! I came in just to browse but of course ended up stumbling across an unexpected gem -- the feather thief -- that I could not resist picking up. They also have the American poetry review, which I have never seen anywhere else. Of course prices are higher than at Amazon or big box stores, but absolutely worth it to support an actual bookstore from an owner who cares about literature. Do not miss out!

A bookstore in Union Square? An independent bookstore? A team dedicated to books? Had the sweetest interaction here today and wish we lived in the city again to make this my local place. The team (especially Lillian!) clearly cares about helping customers finding books they want to read and will love. I appreciated the variety in book selection, handwritten signage, and also their small extras that have become synonymous with bookstores (stickers, cards, bookmarks). Definitely making it a point to support them on an ongoing basis.

Gotta love a bookstore in the heart of SF. Surprisingly broad book selection for a small shop, and some cute gifts too.

City Lights is one of my favorite bookstores in San Francisco. There's something about wandering…read morethrough it that makes me feel like a kid again. With every twist and turn, another staircase or room appears, filled with books and entirely new worlds to discover. It always brings me back to the days I spent with my grandmother at our old library. We would sit together on the stairs and read to each other, completely content to spend hours surrounded by books. I think that's part of why City Lights feels so special to me--it brings back that same sense of curiosity, comfort, and excitement I felt with her. I rarely come here looking for one specific thing. The fun is wandering the shelves until a cover, title, or completely unexpected book catches my attention. Somehow I always leave with another story I can't wait to disappear into. There are bookstores you go to simply to buy a book, and then there are bookstores you experience. City Lights is the latter. It's a little piece of San Francisco that I hope never changes.

Lovely aesthetic inside, beautiful garden in the back. Very kid-friendly with several spaces for children to frolic. This is a popular cafe among locals and nonlocals. They have an ordering window, so you line up on the sidewalk. Menus are posted outside the window. The inside is super neat! It's a bookstore that sells a variety of books and other creative goods. We walked around while we waited for our drinks. The line moves fast, and they make the drinks really quickly! Everyone is nice and efficient. I got their seasonal drink, an Iced Pear Matcha with Oat Milk. The matcha was smooth and not too earthy, definitely creamy. The pear was all on the bottom and was mild and subtle. For the size, it was a bit expensive. Definitely wish the cup was bigger! Black Bird Bookstore and Cafe is a cute spot for a quick drink and shopping. It's great to support local, and I'm glad I could try it, but it's definitely on the pricey side. Find them off Irving Street with a line out the door and street parking around.
