I was excited to finally try this place but did not leave happy. Pros: Servers were all attentive and friendly. Spicy noodles, corn cheese, and chicken cartilage were good. Cons: Beef was dry and too chewy , beef tongue so-so. Our main complaint tho is the grilled squid. It's about $10 and the QR menu also shows a pic of whole squid so that's what we were expecting to get. Instead what we actually got was more like half the squid at most. When we asked the server if we got the right item, she said yes but just cut it up small....hmmm ok, not convinced. Maybe they used baby squids this time lol. It's quite a ripoff IMO. My table also ordered some kimchi fried rice, lamb hot pot and Chongqing noodles with chili oil. The kimchi fried rice was pretty standard and nostalgic. They also have sauces like yuzu, ponzu, and wasabi ponzu that you can ask for. The chicken breast with cheese skewer used sliced white cheese rather than mozzarella, so the taste was little off. The squid was also a huge disappointment. They also put honey on top of the sweet potato fries and that was a huge mistake. My fries tasted soggy and super sweet which I hated. The cheese corn tasted mediocre but it's surprising how bad they can make the cheese corn. The cheese corn felt like it was left out before it was served to us so it tasted cold and not that good. The sausage egg fried rice was our carby pick and it was a generous portion. I loved the Chongqing noodles with the additive mala spicy sauce. I used that same sauce to dress the fried rice. The skewers themselves were a fine but forgettable: shiitake mushrooms, bacon wrapped asparagus, intestines, chicken wings, pork belly. The best items were probably the chicken wings because they had a savory sauce. The yellowtail collar took the longest to cook and come out and I found it a bit fishy. We ordered the beef soup, skewers, the tofu with green peppers, and bun with condensed milk. What I learned from this experience was to ask questions. For example, I'm glad I told the server about a peanut allergy, and they were able to tell me one of the condiments had peanuts. The menu picture of the 'tofu with green peppers' looked innocent enough, white and green. There were no descriptions written of what we were getting, but you'd think a picture is worth a thousand words. And there was no next to it on the menu as some of the other items did. When it arrived, it had huge chunks of cut red chilis (and the green ones), and it was, of course, spicy. We mentioned to the server that the menu and menu picture were both misleading as they didn't indicate any spiciness; and she proceeded to tell us we should have told her we didn't want anything spicy. Well, that didn't go over well with us and didn't make any sense, but the lesson is to ask questions and make sure to tell them you don't want anything spicy-even if all you order is water and a bun with condensed milk. The food tasted fresh, but wasn't anything special, and lacked depth. No one explained anything about condiments or how to use them or anything, like some other helpers experienced. The shop often runs out of beef tongue when they are still open for the next five hours before closing. The employees are friendly and welcoming most days but can be forgetful when ordering takeout. When ordering takeout, the wait time can go over 45 minutes after placing the order and the waiting area is a sorry-ass corner with a few chairs. Unfortunately, the other waiting area outside is filled with loitering smokers that can be smelled inside. The prices are more than reasonable for the taste and quality. While all of the skewers were great, the beef and the chicken breast were by far my favorites. They were seasoned, marinated, and cooked to perfection! The meat was super juicy, tender, and flavorful. I was extremely impressed by the beef. Oh, and at the beginning of our meal, one waitress accidentally mixed our order up with someone else who had ordered beef tongue ($9.95).
