A small pet supplies store, mostly dog items and some cat items. Walkable to the blue line and L train. Not hard to find and it's packed with products in there but clean shop. A cute cat at the back and customers sometimes bring their dogs in when purchasing. Prices are a bit on the pricier side but still quite reasonable and good quality items. Toys and food are all very nice! Adorable and some of the toys are more unique, I love it. Had to stop myself from buying all the toys there. Great service and staffs are all super friendly. Always passed by and wanted to go but didn't have time, finally had some free time and decided to check this place out, and I'm so glad I did. Highly recommend, you won't be disappointed at all...in fact you might be disappointed if you don't check this store out at least once. I'd definitely be going back for more toys in the future, I'm like obsessed. Their business card is thin magnet that you can stick on your fridge and their logo is cute too. This place is really great. The owner actually helped explain to us all the different options for dog food when we were having issues with our Frenchies and their allergies. The food he recommended has been amazing and their allergies are so much better - which is a feat as anyone with Frenchies would attest to! I've noticed that overall the food/treats/etc. have been carefully curated so I always feel comfortable buying things from there, knowing they're not full of a ton of gross preservatives and whatever else the big brands put into their food. Whenever we go in, the people who work there are so patient and helpful. We went in to get harnesses and the woman who works there spent probably over 10 minutes adjusting the harnesses on each of our Frenchies perfectly for them. They're also SO CONVENIENT. They'll deliver to you for free and with no minimum to anyone in the neighborhood (not sure what the radius is, we live less than an avenue away) if you just call up, which has been a lifesaver. You can also set up an account with them and attach a credit card to it - which is great for when I'm walking by with the dogs and want to pop in to grab something but don't have my wallet, or when I have to call to get something delivered. read more

Yea, things are a little on the pricey side here but it still might be worth a trip just because they have a great selection of natural treats. I liked it because yes they were overpriced but, at least offering quality products instead of just jacking up prices on normal crap you can buy for a lot less at Petco. So, I bought some chicken breast (think slabs of chicken breast dried, yes, my bullie eats well) treats that were organic, made from free-range chickens (or so they claim), with no hormones, etc, etc for $10. That's pretty good considering any other organic treats will run you $14 and up. Also bought Max your basic rope chew toy for $3. I will probably look online for a reasonably durable bed I can stand to look at for less than $150 but for the small stuff it's a cute little shop. read more

OK...so I went to the Barking Zoo because I read an article in the NYT about them getting priced out of Chelsea (as most small business in New York seem to be) and I wanted to support them. High quality products and reasonable (for Manhattan) prices. Friendly service and they are really thoughtful about the products they stock and sell. Awfully rude and overpriced place. Went in this past weekend to find a coat. Had a man hovering over us as though we were going to steal it. Found a coat, but our measurement was off by two inches. Since we live in HK, bringing our dog down in the snow wasn't an option, so he couldn't have him try it on there. This store has an asinine return policy. We were only able to get store credit, after we brought the coat back the next day, unused. Of course they had nothing else in our dog's size, and refused the idea of ordering one in the correct size. Talk about awful customer service. Stay away! read more

I kept going back to The Barking Zoo because it was convenient, kind of cute, and because they stocked a lot of specialty items no one else in the city carried. I soon realized I must be a glutton for punishment because their customer service sucks! I don't even think the employees like animals. They certainly don't like people. We get our dog food delivered from The Barking Zoo. They are really flexible and helpful over the phone; if there is a product that they don't carry in store or a size of a product they don't currently have in stock, they do their best to order it from their distributors. I have found that their prices are very reasonable as well. You can also leave a tip on the credit card for the delivery person, as well as schedule a specific time frame for delivery! Best pet store in the city, as far as I'm concerned. So much thought goes into product selection. There are toys here you can't find anywhere else, which are actually enriching and stimulating for dogs, plus the best winter and rain coats available. And no food or treats from China means way fewer poisonous recalls. The people here really love their canine (and feline!) community. read more

How can you not love this place. They know your dog they know your name. They always have the coolest things and the best organic food and treats for your animal children. My dog cosmo who is 7 lbs of fluff drags me here. He can't walk by without going in. He will stop in front and cry bloody murder he loves this place and he's right. It's sensational. They always have a recommendation when he gets fussy and I need to change foods like Natures balance mini bites w duck n lambNf chewy n Stella. They also have frozen raw food in the back also a must for a fussy puppy. It's not by far cheaper then buying on line but it's important to support local people and business and my dog is treated like the real house puppy of Chelsea he is.
