Worth trying any day. Nestled inside the Ship'n'Shore Motel/Boatel and right on the water's edge, the view is perfect, decor fitting and the food delicious. Environmentally conscious, only reusable metal straws are used for your drinks (if you choose) at a $2 upcharge per straw, which was unfortunately unadvertised. The drinks were tasty but needed a little extra "umph" and had to be reinforced with extra shots. All the food we tried was awesome, so I still feel justified giving this restaurant 4 out of 5 stars. read more

Out of our whole trip to Saugatuck, this is our favorite place that we ate. We loved the outdoor seating options right on the water. It was the most picturesque location. They played great music and everyone around us was friendly and having fun. Incredibly tasty cocktails and food. We loved the seafood Mac and cheese, incredibly creamy and smooth - maybe the best pasta dish we've ever had. Our waiter was incredibly attentive. This is a newer restaurant in Saugatuck. It sits right on the water built on what's supposed to look like a barge (and they've done a great job of that). Boats can come right up and tie up to it. It was pretty busy when we went but the service was still good and the atmosphere was awesome with live music and a happy vibe. The food was great too. I don't really know what category to put it in but I would say maybe "fancy bar food." Is that a thing? Anyway, we all agreed that we were pleasantly surprised and that our meal exceeded our expectations. The bottom line: this restaurant offers great waterside views, friendly service, a fun atmosphere and really good food. We'll be back. read more

I love the atmosphere of this place it's my favorite waterview and has a nice vibe. The service is hit or miss and the food is mediocre. It wouldn't be that hard for them to step up the food quality and service efforts but it is what it is. Summer help and they have the view. Come for drinks and enjoy the view the food is more 3 stars IMO. It would be nice if they offered non plastic cups especially if ur ordering champagne nothing worse than a stemless plastic water glass for a nice champagne. Lol. 3 of us stopped in for drinks. Then decided to stay for dinner. We had 8 in our group for dinner. Bartenders were friendly but a bit overwhelmed. We could have sat at 4:30 for dinner but said we would wait for next table as that was a bit early. So we all gathered at the bar... we should have just ordered there. By 5:00 all the tables were sat and we were ignored. No one had food! Everyone seemed to be waiting either to order or for food. I checked again with the hostess that told us a table was finishing up at 5pm but when I looked they hadn't even started! Needless to say we left and went elsewhere! This is our top summer spot to come- mainly for the view and cool vibe here. The food can be hit or miss, but we mostly find it on the good side! My favorite to get here is the tuna- it's big fresh chunks of tuna with a tasty sauce on top of fried wonton chips. Delicious!! This last time we went we got the bacon burger, which was good but not the best burger out there. They might have a limited menu right now due to covid- we usually get the queso and wings but they were missing this time. Our go to drink here is the margarita! After going here on the recommendation of my brother and sister-in-law, was really disappointed. I ordered blackened mahi with lemon garlic cream sauce. When my meal was brought out (no silverware for an additional 5 minutes) the mahi had no sauce of any kind, nor was there any blackening seasoning on the fish. Just sautéed fish fillet, with no sauce. Pretty boring tasting. When I asked where the sauce was, the server said she'd need to get it from the kitchen. (Meanwhile food is getting cold.) After a few more minutes, the plate was brought back with a GLOB of pasty white on top. No lemon or garlic flavor....at first I thought it was just mayonnaise, but after tasting it by itself, I truly am not sure what it was. So I removed it (it was solid, gelatinous in texture) and ate a few more bites of fish. Gave remaining 1/2 the fish to my husband who ate it (sans "sauce.") He's not as picky as me, obviously. Just a big disappointment, server went and asked kitchen what they put on the fish...they doubled down on the fact that this WAS the proper sauce. Oh well, not going there again. read more

This was my first time here, and main point is this: the food is good and the restaurant is cute, but the service left a little to be desired. Here's what we did before we came: we checked online to see the hours they were open. We called to make sure that was right and inquire as to what time the kitchen would close, since it was a summer Sunday evening. We arrived 30 minutes before the kitchen closed, based on what was told to us when we called. We would have come earlier, of course, but it was our travel day, and we had 12 people coming in three different waves, but we were trying to have a nice meal out with the grownups of the group. From the moment we walked in, the server was like, "I have to check and see if the kitchen is still open, let me see if they can even help you," The server mentioned the kitchen was closing soon not fewer than 10 times in our first 5 minutes. I've never seen anything like it. Every question we asked, every small modification we asked for: she had to check and see if the kitchen could do that, since they were closing soon. She made us feel like it would be better if we would just go. The food was good, and we enjoyed our drinks. And I'm sure that server and the kitchen had a very long, hard, hot day. I'm inclined to give anyone a pass. But she took a table of paying customers and made us feel like the biggest inconvenience. I'm not sure I will come back here. Fabulous. The atmosphere is great. The drinks delicious and the quest dip is good but a bit spicy. A bit pricey but not too far out of line and a decent selection. Service was decent. Sat at the bar and received decent service. One perk is they were out of fireball Sangria and since we were sitting by bartender (instead of table) I was still able to get a Sangria that he made me. Be early and fast on the weekends in summer for upper deck. People sit for hours. I would too so that's not criticism. We waited here for our tour time at the Star of Saugatuck which is right by there. A few relaxing drinks and then got in line. Have fun! read more

We have been to The BARge twice. The first time was this summer shortly after opening. Some of the reviews were not good but I don't agree. Sitting on the top deck watching the boats go by and people watching was fun. We enjoyed our shrimp app, we have had better, but the view was so beautiful. Our tacos were good. We were there again on a Sunday in January and I was worried we only liked it because we were seated outside and maybe we didn't like the food. But we were wrong. The food got better over the winter and sitting on the lower level inside on the river was just as fun. The tacos went from good to great. My only complaint is the wine glasses are plastic. The wife and I as we often do headed to Saugatuck and one of tonight's destinations was the BARge. We've been meaning to get here but with so many great choices for food and libations we just didn't until now. I tried a Bloody Mary which was garnished with summer sausage, cheese cube, Olive and pickle. It was very good. This is a great place to come and enjoy summer. Management is the worst. Some steroid type manager was completely rude to us so we went someplace else. Never again.

Open air casual dining in the water. Upper deck for sun lovers and lower covered area with full bars on both levels. Great friendly service and prompt attentiveness. We had cocktails and a light meal sharing their Fish N Chips and their Waffle Fries Nacho apps. The fish was wonderful, crunchy beer battered goodness w light flakey fish inside, not mushy or overly doughy. I could have made a meal of the Waffle Fries Nachos, covered w chicken, cheese, diced tomatoes and scallions. The only downside is that they just opened so some things were not available yet...ie ranch dressing and salsa. You get to see the boats up and down the way as well as people walking through. Great spot and the open air design w the garage door style let's the breezes through and cool it down from the sun outside. A little pricey, seeing it was 2 drinks, a meal and an app for $60. Perhaps if they have a happy hour or specials that would be great to take advantage of. read more

The atmosphere is right on the lake and beautiful. He service was also very good. However, the food took it down from 5 stars to 3. I had the chicken pesto sandwich. Both the fries and the chicken appeared to be frozen and prepackaged. My wife ordered the spinach salad with chicken. The salad looked like it was made at the beginning of the night and the chicken was the same pesto chicken as my sandwich. Our kids got the pretzel bites and grilled cheese. The pretzel bites appeared homemade and were the best thing we ordered. read more
