We arrived to the store ten minutes before the closing time posted on google and on their door. While I understand that they were getting ready to close and go home, they did not even acknowledge us at the door and made a conscious effort to not look our way. This was extremely disrespectful given that they were not even supposed to be closed. We then took our business elsewhere. read more

Based on a few word of mouth recommendations to "check this place out", we came by on a rainy Saturday to peruse the store. My significant other and I both liked how funky, fun, and stylistic the selection of furniture, artwork, and house wares were. The tasteful eclectic variety of items were refreshing against the general plethora of antiques in town. The store was divided into 3 main rooms with slight different thematic elements of decoration in each. Upon entering you have the choice to either go left or right; we choose the left and worked our way through the store. We noticed this artist meets rustic farm house vibe with the wood, glass, and wheat in one room paired with large abstract color field paintings and textiles. The furniture style seemed to be a blend between artistic mid-century to contemporary, comfortable, and functional pieces. Textile pattern options ranged from geometric, to Ikat, and modern abstraction. If you're a fan of different, you're in luck. We tried out a few cloth and leather couches which felt both firm and nicely crafted. The price points are relatively high however based on our interaction with the owner and employees, as well as testing some of the furniture, we could understand why. The pieces seem to be thoughtfully curated and of high quality. While we did not purchase any furniture on our first visit, based on this experience we'd consider doing so at a later point. FYI - There is dedicated parking for the store directly in front. Read the signs carefully since the lot is shared with other businesses. read more

We needed a piece of furniture for our home office during the recent COVID quarantine. I'm so happy I checked with the Artful Lodger to see if they could help. Despite the fact that the store wasn't physically open, they were able to order the furniture for me and even offer white glove delivery. Amanda was thorough, prompt and communicative throughout the entire process She even followed up with the company directly when I had some questions about the delivered piece/stain. I felt well cared for and reassured that I had chosen well. The combination of attractive and varied furniture styles and phenomenal customer service make it easy to shop local. Thank you Artful Lodger! read more

This store is an absolute delight to visit. The merchandise is arranged in such a way that it is pleasing to browse, and relaxing to spend time there. The women there do not follow you around the store, and pressure you to look at certain items. The furniture, accessories, and gift items are all special. After being there for about a half an hour, I suspected that they are designers and so I inquired. I was correct, and it is no surprise since everything is arranged in a pleasing, organized fashion. I live in Williamsburg but my husband and I love Charlottesville, and we will always stop by to look at the newest items in the store, and would not hesitate if we need furniture to look there. read more
This little gem of a store is always on my must visit list when visiting Charlottesville. Over the years, I have gotten unique artwork, furniture and novel accessories. The owners are personable and play a hands on role in the selection of merchandise. The recent visit showed the store has increased the amount of furniture made from reclaimed wood. Pricing is well within line of quality furniture. They have several sales each year. I normally try to hit the post Christmas sale where most items are at least 20% off. Note: The store has reserved parking out front. This is especially key in sometime challenging North end of downtown mall area. read more

My girlfriend and I were in over the weekend to get new furniture to replace our "damaged in the move" old furniture and I couldn't have been more pleased. The owner was EXTREMELY helpful and guided us through the whole process of ordering our new goodies! She even offered her own insight, but was not trying to push us in any particular direction, which really gave us a chance to use our own imagination in putting together each piece. You can clearly tell the store is purposefully put together by the owner to genuinely provide unique and multiple styles of furniture that would appeal to a wide group of people. Also, the owner explained that for the pieces she carries in the store, she works very closely with each company to provide the customer with their own needs. Which, I thought was just another amazing aspect this store takes in providing great customer service. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend going and checking it out, because now that I've gone and worked with them I can't imagine purchasing furniture from anywhere else! read more

First-rate experience from start to finish. They were extremely helpful without ever applying even a hint of pressure, accommodated a couple of pretty unusual requests without blinking an eye, and the delivery team was good-humored, thorough, and easy to work with. Not only did A.L let me test out how their couch would treat my balky back by sitting in it and reading for an hour, they actually even offered to bring me tea while I was there malingering. And the delivery crew not only brought the new furniture and moved it into place in our home, but then actually even carted off the stuff it was replacing and delivered directly to a local family in need. The furniture did cost more than what we're accustomed to paying, but it was high quality, made in North Carolina incorporating environmentally sustainable practices, we'll have it a long time, and the customer service made everything easy and left us with peace of mind about our purchase read more

If you are the type of person who hates wandering aimlessly at a colossal furniture warehouse trying to get a good bargain, then this is exactly the place for you. This place is cute, classy and inviting. Yes, the pieces are expensive but a lot of them are made in the States or Canada and are of good quality. But what really shines is the service - I've had a a couple of hardware malfunctions and Chip has been always kind enough to order parts and get his crew to fix things. read more

Beware - this retailer will not take back any furniture that may have been damaged in delivery. Please inspect carefully. My 81 year-old mother ordered a glass top coffee table and did not notice a chip in the glass that was covered up by the metal base. I noticed it when I visited her 5 months later and we immediately called the store. The owners were very rude, took 2 months to get back with us and would do nothing to assist her in getting the glass top replaced. They even insinuated that she was lying to them about how the chip occurred. I would not shop here as they do not stand behind their merchandise and become rude when you have a problem, so be forewarned! read more

Actually, the shopping experience was fine. In 2010 I was looking for a sofa that I could get quickly, and they had one I liked, on sale for about $1000. I purchased it, delivery was prompt and polite--but the sofa was very, VERY poorly made. I live alone, but because of an injury spent a lot of time on the sofa. Two years after I purchased the sofa, the part that took most of my weight first tore at the webbing below the cushion; then tore more, and other parts began to come undone. I'm not skinny, but I'm not especially heavy. I phoned to store to find out the brand so I could write to the manufacturer, and they still had my invoice in their computer. I explained the problem to someone very nice, who said someone would call me back because they were concerned as well. No one called, nor did I get the name of the manufacturer. I called twice more. Nothing happened. I finally had to throw the sofa out. It seems to me that an ostensibly on-sale sofa that cost $1000 should stand up for more than two years in a home with only one person. I liked the styles in the store, but I'm done there. read more
