Venue is really pretty I would give it a 5 but I took off point for the brides room functionality. Brides take into consideration, The brides room that they offer is really pretty, spacious for bridesmaids to be together but not really functional unless your hair dresser and makeup artists is over 6 feet tall! Bathroom is the only place to get dressed with privacy (size of a small powder room) If you have a ball gown dress, bathroom will not work! Your option of getting dressed is to change in the open space however there are windows facing the venue building and parking lot with nothing on them. Be careful when changing or BRING dividers or something to block outsiders looking in! You only have the Brides room until 9pm and if you are doing a dress change make sure its well before 9pm or make sure you have people stand and block windows as the staff coming in to clean room 8:50 was a female and a male PEPPING TOM! I caught him watching my bride changing her dress. He still continued to look even after the female told him to turn around! NOT ACCEPTABLE! I'll start with the good: our wedding was gorgeous and went flawlessly, and I could tell the day of coordinators were truly trying their best to make our overall experience phenomenal. I can't say enough good things about Michelle and the other coordinators who helped everything go perfectly. The reason for less than 5 stars? We originally booked with their sister venue before it burnt down. When it burnt down we were offered either our money back or to move to this venue and change our Saturday wedding to a Friday wedding. Not ideal, but we are small town people ourselves so we wanted to continue to support a small business and stay with them in hopes it would help them rebuild. I realize this is our fault, we should've left when we had the chance. As our 2020 summer date approached, the pandemic was clearly pushing any possibility of our day happening out of reach. The owner waited, waited, AND waited as long as possible to allow us to push out our June wedding. AND THEN he wouldn't give us the option of a summer date in 2021, we had to BEG to get a spring date, and he barely let us choose early April. Attended a wedding here recently. Wasn't impressed at all. The outside of the building was in very poor condition with overgrown landscaping. Very average. The size and layout of the building was small. Ample parking. The ceremony room was somewhat small and tight, However the decorating was modern and light. The room temperature was very warm, I noticed folks fanning themselves. The food was bland, small portion and over cooked. People at our table were all commenting on the same opinion we had about the food. The alcohol I think may of been diluted or cheap, we all had 4-5 drinks each and was still sober. The women's bathrooms was lacking toilet paper in the very beginning of the night. I don't know the pricing of this venue so possibly it is priced accordingly. read more

I just had my wedding here this past weekend and I can't begin to tell you how amazing it was. From the moment we walked in during our initial consultation, I knew we were in really good hands. Our coordinators, Natalie & Michelle were OUTSTANDING. They really made us feel so welcome and taken care of. Their coordinator services eliminated the need for me to hire a third party day-of planner. The atmosphere/decor is so unique that you really don't need to do much to gussy the place up. I'm from Chicago and I have YET to see an event space like this. All of my guests still can't stop talking about what an amazing venue we chose. The bridal suite is AWESOME!!! The suite on its own could've sold me on this hall. We had somewhere between 10-25 people in there and still had enough elbow room to breathe as we all got ready. I also love the fact that it is a one-event/night space so you won't have to worry about running into other random guests/brides at your own wedding. Did I mention how affordable this place is?!! Attended a wedding. 06/19/2021 My wife has MS and is confined to her power wheelchair. Handicap access is non-existent at this building. They have an outside lift chair up an old rickety steep stairway. We needed to transfer her to this chair and have her go up the stairway by herself. We then had to get 4-5 young guys to pick up and carry her 250-pound wheelchair up the stairs. My 92-year-old Aunt also had to use this chair. Now as the wedding is progressing, I'm told it is pouring rain outside! Thankfully the rain stop. The manager then was leaving and told my wife the security guard on duty would help her. As it was time for us to leave, my daughter went to the bar to get a towel to wipe off a wet seat. She was told the chair had broken down when my Aunt was coming up and was not in use. THE MANAGER HAD LEFT KNOWING THE CHAIR WAS BROKEN AND DID NOT TELL US ANYTHING ABOUT IT! THAT WAS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! So how do we get her out? Paramedics had to be called to get her down the stairs and 4-5 young guys to carry her wheelchair down the stairs. If you have a severe handicap this is not a place for you to go. We had fun at the wedding, celebrating with family a joyous occasion, but this place is not even close to handicap accessible! read more

Attended a wedding. A handicap access is virtually non-existent. They said they had an outside lift chair, but if it's raining, which it was, it really didn't help. So instead you're forced to walk up 15 stairs which are clumsily carpeted and a hazard to a handicapped person. The service was mediocre, hors'douvers cold, and 10 guests crowded at a table that would have still been uncomfortable for 8. We were served 8 dinner rolls, with 10 at the table and were finally brought 4 additional rolls toward the end of the meal. The main course was served plated, the chicken cutlet seemed like a frozen, breaded one, the beef was extremely tough and the broccoli looked as though it was enemic. The saving grace was the mashed potatoes. The dessert, brought in by an outside vendor, was great. Cannot see what the attraction is to this venue. read more

I had the pleasure of attending a wedding on Sunday evening. The food was good (roast beef with a delicious horseradish sauce and chicken with spinach, potatoes and green beans) and the building is stunning. Art Deco style and very elegant. This is the second wedding I have attended in this building and noticed so many people remarking, at both weddings, what a surprise is found inside what was once a school gymnasium. The bride and groom stopped by the table to chat and shared that the staff had been very responsive throughout the process. The other wedding I mentioned was my son's in November, 2014. That evening, the owner was on-site and that gave me comfort knowing that the owner was so involved in that event. read more

I had the honor of standing up at my friends wedding this Saturday at the Allure. It was wonderful,the place is beautiful and food was magnificent. My friend got the package that included the bridal suite upstairs and it was awesome, there was cheese and crackers and champagne waiting for us when we got there. Only problem was the tiny bathroom upstairs,but that's minor and wasn't a big deal. Throughout the evening staff checked in making sure if we needed anything and if we did seeing that it got done. I would absolutely recommend here and might even have my own wedding here if I ever get married ;) only downfall of the place is the millions of stairs,quite the workout,and be careful in a dress and heels! read more

When my husband got engaged, we absolutely loved the look of this place. It was beautiful, and unlike anything available in the area at the time. (This was back when they were a newish venue) So, we paid 2500 deposit on the venue. We paid this deposit EIGHTEEN MONTHS in advance. Six months later, my father in law became extremely ill and was no longer able to work. Since we were depending on their contribution to afford this venue-- I called and asked A YEAR BEFORE THE WEDDING if we could cancel because we weren't going to be able to (as a recent college graduate and a construction worker) afford it by ourselves. After begging and pleading-- the answer was no. We even had already told some friends about the GORGEOUS space and they booked a wedding there, so we asked if we could apply our deposit to their wedding-- so at least SOMEONE would get use out of it--still the answer was no. We were devastated. Oh and by the way-- we had a beautiful wedding, that my father in law was not able to attend due to his illness, and he passed away three months after the wedding. Sure would have been nice to have that 2500 deposit to help with funeral costs and other things. Instead the Allure pocketed the money. read more

Despite not even having a boyfriend at the time, I knew that I would get married there someday. The venue is elegant and classy, but not stuffy. You do not have to decorate too much because the venue itself is a decoration. Every inch of the building is beautiful. We told our guests not to judge it from the outside, because it truly is a hidden gem. We liked how it is a "one-stop shop" with the ceremony and reception areas in the same building. The dedicated cocktail area had plenty of seating for our guests. The Bridal suite was included with the package we chose. It was a roomy, comfortable space for all of the ladies to get ready. I had my hair stylists, makeup artist, videographer, photographers and bridal party in the suite and there was still plenty of room. We also had mimosas, cheese, and crackers to start our day off right! It was very convenient to have the ability to get ready in the same location as the ceremony. My fiancé and I liked that the packages were presented as a price per head. It made it very simple for calculating while working on our budget. The package lists include food, liquor, service fees, gratuity and security. They do not have hidden costs as everything is listed and crystal clear. We also liked that The Allure provided a suggested vendor list as it showed that they had good working relationships with quality companies. They also contacted our vendors the week of the wedding to coordinate times with them, so it was one less thing for me to worry about! They made it very convenient by allowing us to drop off our decorations early. Even better, they set it all up for us. I was able to see our vision come to life on the night of our rehearsal and it was everything I had hoped. The food was tasty and family style serving was nice because it was quick and easy. I am very disappointed in the way the Michelle handled my daughters wedding found her to be very rude and not helpful. They didn't explain well the two $1500 deposit fee's we were told the money we had put down was for I thought was the ceremony downstairs and that deposit wouldn't come off final bill, that's understandable, when we got final bill there was a $1500 charge for ceremony/consulting fee when I questioned it I was than told that the first deposit was the fee to hold the date for wedding. Also we were rushed on day of rehearsal as Michelle had booked an appointment with another couple. We were also told at last minute we needed a seating chart done. My daughter paid for the bridal suite which included two bottle of champagne they left to go outside for pictures when they came back the last bottle was missing the venue took it and didn't want to give it back. Several people attending wedding mentioned how rude Michelle was. I wouldn't recommend the venue I found it overpriced for what you got and no help in making this a smooth experience. The most positive things I can say is that the restrooms were clean and the main course was average as was the salad served. Starting with arriving at this venue, the parking lot is in awful shape and is not very large. The exterior of the building is as chic as downtown Gary. It is boarded over, dirty, and looks like an abandoned warehouse instead of a defunct school The event area in the basement has a relatively open floor plan but there weirdly are two levels of floor, leading back toward the bar. There is no railing between the levels. With a crowd of people milling around, suddenly stepping down 8 inches because, in a crowd, you can't see that there's a dropoff, is certainly unacceptable. Maybe they'll put a railing up as a precaution - I can see it's financially prohibitive to level the area off - once an osteoporotic senior has fallen and broken a hip. Continuing along that line of thought, the structure is not handicapped-friendly. The main staircase leading from the basement to the upper level where the dinner is held is not in good shape. The top two steps are worn such that the edges are no longer edges and more than a few of us had an oops moment as our leading foot slipped quickly down to the step below. The treads are also rather narrow. A slip and fall from the top of the stairs won't sit well with their liability carrier, either. All it requires is one carpenter and some effort. Never did see an elevator to help get someone with impaired mobility up to that level. Bar staff in the basement looked underage and seemed untrained. Bar staff in the main room were not much better. Waitstaff were disinterested and inattentive. The room itself looks sort of glitzy but theres a strange object suspended from the ceiling over the center of the room = an upside-down table. Hope the anchors hold in the ancient plaster or a few people will be in trouble seated below it when it breaks free and crashes. Looking at photos and video, after the event, the exterior just is awful. Hard to say if it looks like a prison or just an abandoned property but it doesn't look good in any way from any angle. All I can presume is that there's nothing much to choose from in this area and that management knows it and is taking people for what they can. I can't believe it's up to code and it certainly is an amateurish operation. read more

The food was an embarrassment to anyone that has ever stirred a pot or used a spatula. Service not any better. The table I was at was 2 people short (dinner paid for) and still not enough Family style to go around...and none of the service workers really cared. I'm a big boy and I had to sacrifice my meats so the rest of the table had enough (and nobody at the table were over portioning). I always considered myself the most non-bride bride in existence. I was hesitant and skeptical about even being able to enjoy having an actual wedding. The best decision we could have made was to choose The Allure as our venue. The building itself is gorgeous. Very dramatic, and elegant decor. I liked that we were able to have the ceremony on site. I had a lot of out of town guests and it made things so much easier for us to just have all the guests come to one place! I'll start off with the cons (because it's a short list): Parking- or lack thereof. Parking is extremely limited due to the fact that the venue is located in a residential area. They do have a parking lot, but depending on the size of the event you're having, it might not be adequate enough. Booking- You need to book pretty far in advance here. If you're getting married in under a year then it might not be possible to make happen. That's honestly the only sort of negative remarks I have for this place. Now on to the Pros: Pricing- Their prices are fair. After doing some research I found that their prices are fair for this area. Especially considering all the services they provide, and since their building is so beautiful they're in high demand. That's not to say that they're super cheap. But you completely get your money's worth if you choose the Allure, and they have different packages available to suit your budget. Most importantly, there were no hidden fees. We knew exactly where our money was going. They will gladly provide you with a mock invoice (taxes included!), and there were no surprise last minute fees or additional charges. Food- Lots of options, and good quality. I was very happy with what we chose for our menu, and I got nothing but positive feedback from the guests. Ballroom- Wow. Just wow. If you're not sold when you see that beautiful ballroom then you need to get your vision checked (just kidding). In all seriousness, it took my breath away. There's a sizable dance floor, the decor is spectacular, and the staircase provides an unforgettable entrance to your reception. Their lighting package was a must for us. A little pricey, BUT definitely worth it. It turns a beautiful ballroom into something magical. Great for photos, and big enough to comfortably fit lots of guests. Their bathrooms are very nice, and right outside the ballroom with easy access. They also have a chair lift available to guests who may have difficulty climbing stairs. I also liked the fact that they have a smaller room off the ballroom that can be used to put a photo booth, or in our case a dessert bar. Ceremony Site/Lounge- Gorgeous. Lots of light, and plenty of couches and chairs for guests to use during cocktail hour. It has a very upscale feel without being stuffy. I really like the fact that the interior is nice enough that you don't NEED to add a lot of decor to make it look nice. However, the color palette and set up does allow for couples to bring in as much sparkle and shine as they want. Bridal Suite- One of the most beautiful rooms at The Allure. It is large enough to accommodate a sizable bridal party, and the room itself is ideal for taking gorgeous 'getting ready' photos. Lots of couches, beautiful mirrors, and exposed brick walls. There is also a bathroom and shower available to use if needed. They also let you use the bridal suite for the whole day, not just right before your wedding. Other venues I visited did not allow use of their bridal suite any earlier than 1-2 hours before the ceremony. I had a lot of bridesmaids and it really helped us a lot to have access to the bridal suite all day. Staff/Service- For me, good service is the most important thing. From the moment I walked in I felt at ease and well taken care of. The assistance of their two wedding planners is included when you book your wedding there. Not only are they professional, but they go the extra mile to be accommodating and helpful. They contact your vendors (florist, bakery, etc) and completely take away the stress of planning a wedding. I asked them a million questions and they were profoundly patient, and always returned my emails and calls in a timely manner. They build good relationships with their clients, and even let me bring out of town family by the venue to show them around. Natalie and Jenny were so very good to us, and honestly I miss talking to them all the time! All in all, if I had it to do over again I would still choose The Allure. They made my wedding into something I honestly never thought I'd have. This place is absolutely horrible. My girlfriend hosted her wedding here and the service was poor. The venue was extremely cold throughout the day, which made her guest very uncomfortable, the carpet is filthy which left a very unpleasant smell in the venue. The staff was overbearing and tried to force the bride to take her wedding pictures after she and her quest finished dinner because the wedding started a little behind time. Mind you she leased the venue until 10pm by this time it was only 5:30pm, They even threatened to close the open bar... shame! I was very displeased with this venue and I would not refer it to anyone. To top it all off, the day of the event they allowed outsiders that were looking to book the space to come in and look around while we were decorating.. there were too many flaws and not enough happy moments. Overall, they are too overbearing and controlling. My friend didn't hire them to be an event coordinator, she booked "The Allure" to allow her to have her wedding at their venue. We recently held our wedding at the Allure in LaPorte and had a near flawless wedding. Highlights: Gorgeous ceremony in the downstairs nondenominational chapel. Seamless cocktail hour complete with waiter served hor dourves in the cocktail lounge upon exiting the ceremony area. Incredible reception in the gorgeous reception hall (which as I understand is a rehabbed recreation hall gymnasium) with beautiful lighting effects, and outstanding food. Lowlights: When our vegetarian guests were completely forgotten about and claimed that is was our fault, resulting in the staff troubling the bride of the wedding about the matter at the head table in front of the entire wedding. I recall the statement "I have all of the emails, you can read them over if you'd like" being made. It was later determined that it was indeed a mistake on the chef's part. -- Myself and groomsmen being largely ignored when arriving to the venue a couple hours before the wedding to dress and get prepared. My only gripe about that was that we really only wanted some water to drink, and nobody could be found. Literally for 2 hours. I contemplated sticking my head under the bathroom faucet at one point. I realize this is a relatively minor gripe, but when taking into account how much money is being spent on the wedding I didn't think a pitcher of water was a whole lot to ask. I don't expect to be treated like the bridal party, but certainly not completely ignored. Overall the Allure is a highly recommended venue if you're planning a wedding. With a couple of kinks that can easily be fixed by a couple of staff "talking to's" this place provides a wedding of epic proportions that can't be beat by any other venue withing a couple hundred miles. Get ready for a long story. My brother had his wedding here last summer and let me tell you, the place is gorgeous (from the inside that is) and I really liked how you went from the ceremony space to the cocktail hour space to the reception ballroom; extremely efficient. However, that's all they had going for them. I was tremendously disappointed with the service. I've been a waitress at a "The Knot Hall of Fame"-er banquet hall for three years and am currently being trained as a head waitress so I feel I can say I have a good understanding of this line of work and what I had expected of a place so beautiful as The Allure. The first bump in the road was after cocktail hour; we were told that we could go up to the ballroom, but when we stepped foot in it we were shooed away because they weren't ready. I didn't really understand how they weren't ready seeing as they had all morning and afternoon to prepare and how one person said we could go up but then another told us not to come in but I let it slide, I understand how there can be some miscommunication with things, it happens, we're human. But moving on to the waitstaff: we had two young male servers who took care of our, and two to three, other tables. They never introduced themselves, never really initiated conversation at all which made the experience a little cold. At my work we pride ourselves on communicating with our tables, we make sure they feel at home and are comfortable. Moving on, they also made us feel SO RUSHED. They took away glasses and plates as soon as they could. You would turn away for a second and they would swoop in like hawks and take them without asking if you were done. But it wasn't until the food was served where I was in complete shock. We started with salad which was good but unfortunate if you didn't like the dressing that was ALREADY on it. The really punch started when dinner came out. So out comes the family style dinner. With dinner came bread. Cold, wet bread. My guess: it was frozen and thawed. My suspicions were confirmed when we asked for more (preferably non-wet bread) but were told there was no more. That took me aback. I never dreamed of not only serving someone once-frozen bread but not even having refills. And it didn't stop there; during main course we asked for more chicken only for the waiter to run into the kitchen and return saying they had no more. In fact, all that they COULD refill was the mashed potatoes. That's it. I couldn't believe it, still can't. At my work, it's PART of the dinner service schedule to get refills; we're not even asked. We'll keep refilling them until everyone stops eating.To not even be able to refill just one table (a family table at that) was disheartening. All of us were left still hungry, we danced away what little we did have anyways. Going back to the waitstaff, after dinner we were all dancing when the wobble came on. A red haired girl waitress bursts out of the kitchen, stops a couple feet away from the dance floor and does the wobble, full out, the ENTIRETY of the song! Sure she's a teenager but so was I when I first started and I took my job very seriously.
