One of the flagship anchor stores of Churchill Square, Debenhams in Brighton is a pretty decent…read moresized store, although pretty much average for the chain it is located in. It is located fairly close to Apple, up to a steep gradient in the mall floor. The store isn't as modern as one would expect from an anchor store of a mall, but still pretty much does the job when it is open with a satisfactory selection. The store like most branches of Debenhams is pricier than the overall feel of the store implies on the first impression. Average, generic Debenhams store with poor opening times (unstructured, closing early on most days but this is the same as the entire mall) - A useful brand for the city but not really a great store within that brand. 2*

Debenhams is like a time capsule…read more Every time I offer to take my mum shopping and we've done every other store in the city from M&S to Wallis, she swears she just wants to 'Pop in Debenhams for 5 minutes.' And of course, we always emerge weighed down by bags one or two hours later. This particular branch is tiny compared to the Manchester and London stores but they still manage to squeeze a lot of stock in. The ground floor is mainly occupied by accessories, shoes, perfume and make-up counters from Clarins to Benefit whilst the first floor has a strong selection of bed, bath, kitchen and dining room goodies. There's also a small childrens-wear department. The reason my mum loves this store however, is for the womens wear in the basement. There's air conditioning, three changing room areas and small subsidiaries of Wallis, Red Herring, Jane Norman, Warehouse, Top Shop, Oasis, Coast and Red Herring amongst others. Right now, there's also a Blue Cross sale on - which means 70% off for card-holders. Hang on, I think my mobile's ringing...

I first heard about the Cath Kidston brand from the British beauty vloggers I watch on YouTube…read more Pajamas, lunch boxes, kitchen furnishings & tableware -- the cute, pastel prints were eye catching on the screen. And, the more unavailable a product is where I live in California, the more I covet it & set out to acquire it (why am I like this?!) I came across Cath Kidston while strolling around Brighton. Although many of their prints aren't exactly what I'd call my style, I did find one that was to my liking -- a pale pink background with crude sketches of British landmarks & icons. I picked up a makeup pouch & passport holder (along with a few other bits & bobs for my fRamily back home) & am happy to have a piece of the U.K. with me wherever I go! If you're a true girly girl or if you've got young kids at home, Cath Kidston will add adorable touches to your life. I don't happen to fit in those categories, but I appreciate a fun & functional souvenir. Thank you to the lovely store employees for their helpful suggestions!

Each room is decorated with French furniture that I stumbled across on various trips across the channel and the walls are plastered with cute floral, polka dot and cowboy wallpaper. There's vases of home-grown flowers everywhere and a constant supply of fresh coffee and cakes on the kitchen counter. This is the image that comes to mind whenever I walk through the door of Cath Kidston and am surrounded by beautiful, carefully thrown together, homeware. Thankfully, one glance at the price-tags - £150 for a roll of luxury wallpaper, £200 for a digital Roberts radio, £135 for a rose bedspread that could have been my grandma's - usually jolt me to my senses and reminds me, I've never had a desire to be a domestic goddess or desperate housewife.

They have a cool fridge in the window, great music on the stereo and racks of clothes from the 50s to the present. I know vintage is supposed to indicate decades of wear and tear but hey, you can't make people carry on wearing flares when everyone else is wearing drainpipes! As a result, you can find lots of flares and checked shirts in Starfish alongside old Levis, leather jackets, skirts, dresses and distinctive coats. The clothes smell fresher than in other vintage and charity shops in the city and the staff are usually pretty friendly. I'm just waiting for an original Johnny Cash tee to come in...

Even the dressing room fills me with joy as I bundle into the impossibly small space and basically wrap the curtain around myself. An experience that would irritate the hell out of me elsewhere somehow makes me chuckle in this shop. How? And why do I rave so? I don't know, it's just a really satisfying little shop that makes good use of space, displays its merchandise well and never fails to have a cool pair of shades or earrings waiting for me at the counter! On top of this, they have a really great selection of vintage dresses in all shapes, sizes and styles, from strappy sun dresses to 80's prom dresses, whatever you need, you'll probably find it (or something else too good to be true) here. I was in here today and I noticed they have a really good selection of woolly v-necks at the moment- I think I might have to pop back and snap one up myself!
