Of all of the murals in Lexington, this one was the most controversial. It's located on the outside…read moreof one of the outside walls of the an old warehouse in the distillery district. That "old" warehouse is now home of several the James Pepper Distillery District businesses. Specifically the building that is the home of Fusion Brewery and Battle Axes. When it was first painted, back in 2015 there were only two businesses open in the entire district. And as cool as the area is now, I know that this bad ass mural was part of that growth, for the good. So why was it so controversial? You know those kind of people who like to complain about everything, yeah those are who made it controversial. Although it's a self portrait of sorts, in the mural, he's spelling "Mo" with his hands. NOT a gang sign. I'm serious, people were saying that it was going to cause gang related behavior, and encourage graffiti. Now, I wonder what all those naysayers say about it after how far the district has come along in just a few short years. It's literally one of the most booming areas in Lexington. Every year they host artists from near and far, to create these spectacular, gigantic forms of street art. Art unlike you'll find a collection in no one city, other than in Lexington, KY.

A project steering committee with representatives from each partner/organization as well as prominent community members was assembled to organize this project. The plants on the green wall will grow and thrive thanks to their built-in irrigation system. The design, created by artist April Sunami (who has family ties to Walnut Hills), is meant to represent the literal and figurative growth of the community. Youth worked with Professional Artists to executed the project which seamlessly integrates with a living green wall, designed by Urban Blooms."

The living mural located in downtown Covington Kentucky is created by the artist group called "the…read moreLondon police". The mural is massive and features a dog with a space helmet and stick looking people with numbers counting up to 15. Kinds reminds me of the old highlights magazine games I would play as a child. While I'm not sure exactly what is happening in this mural or the meaning of it I do enjoy it. It's massive and fun. Also it is right across the street from another cool mural that features the plant from the movie little shop of horrors saying "feed me more". So a pretty cool area to check out for public art lovers.

Very cool public art mural located on the side of a eatery off Baxter ave that pays tribute to the…read morelate great Muhammad Ali must famous catch phrase. Float like a butterfly and sting like a bee. The mural consist of a pair of boxing gloves with its angel halo (I assume created shortly after ali passing) and the left wing being a butterfly wing and the right wing being a bee wing. Very cool and unique. While the mural never mentions Ali name or the phrase or is obvious what the message is by the creative use of symbolism. Overall a great piece and while it's not very large and kinda hard to spot on the side of a building it may be one of my new favorite pieces because of the creativity.

Painted on the wall of the Rabbit Hole Distillery that overlooks the parking lot is a brightly…read morecolored mural depicting six scenes from Alice in Wonderland (or if one wants to be technically correct, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland). The six scenes are: the hookah smoking caterpillar; Alice holding her cat, with the Cheshire Cat in the background; the Queen of Hearts' frog servants; the Queen of Hearts; the Mad Hatter; and the White Rabbit. Alice in wonderland public art mural located on the side of the rabbit hole distillery in the Nulu…read moreneighborhood of Lousiville Kentucky. Nulu is stocked full of awesome and beautiful public art works. Thai Alice and wonderland rendering has added to that. So detailed, specific and well done. Everytime I walk by it I notice a detail that I haven't before. Overall a beautiful and wonderfully done piece of public art. I can see it becoming a favorite of many inside the city.

I'm pretty sure that this building used to be a place that sold lighting fixtures and parts, so the bulbs seem appropriate. I don't know why Hamilton is so into origami, but whatever. It's neat. At first I thought they were cranes and bats but then I found out I don't know anything about origami and that they're swallows "foreshadowing spring." Thinking they are bats is way different than swallows foreshadowing spring. The more I learn the names of murals in Hamilton, the more it seems they are titled to try to alleviate people who fear losing their city to the sort of people who make murals. And the people who make murals are paying homage to the history of the city with bright color pallets. Anyway, I forgot to say this is from the Street Spark team here in Hamilton.
