If you're looking for authentic/traditional Vietnamese food for your wedding, this is it! Besides stopping by for a wedding, this place serves 7 courses of beef (bo 7 mon). The neat part of it is that if you don't have the appetite for the entire 7 courses, you can order/select individual dishes that you enjoy. For example, my husband and son love the bo la lot aka beef wrapped in betel leaves. The dish comes with rice paper, but you can also eat it with banh hoi (rice vermicelli sheets). Thanh Thanh has proven their ability to handle large scale Vietnamese weddings. This isn't their first rodeo; they made their way into the wedding business almost three decades ago. As a groomsman, I stayed for the entire duration of my friend's 600+ person reception from setting up to packing up. The venue and its staff seemed to have the logistics down like it was second nature. Dishes came out smoothly wave after wave. The stir fried lobster, combination fried rice, and roasted duck with buns all tasted satisfactory. They're all typical dishes of a Viet wedding that are hard to go wrong. I felt thoroughly impressed by their beef steak and string beans (Thit Bo Xao Dau Tay)! It tasted juicy, well seasoned, and perfectly cooked. Space is not an issue. The venue had enough wiggle room to let 2 people pass between tables. Roughly 150 people migrated to the dance floor with plenty of personal space leftover if desired. Those waiting for a drink at the bar could line up without clogging nearby areas. Food wise, I give it a 3.5 star rating or better depending on the dish. On a Sunday it was almost empty which was great because I didn't have to wait long to order or get my goodies. This is not my first time here, but it is my first time writing a review for Thanh-Thanh (pronounced Tang-Tang). On previous visits, of which there have been many, as Thanh-Thahn is one of the more popular venues for Vietnamese wedding receptions and other large events. I've also dined in the restaurant before, as it's large and can accommodate large family gatherings. In the past, I've always thought the food to be in the A-OK (3 stars) category, and the service a bit below that. But the last two times I've eaten here, in the restaurant, I've been impressed. Service was definitely better, and the two items we had on this visit, very good. So our two dishes were: "Ca Xau Xao Lan" Alligator sautéed in curry sauce and coconut milk (peanut topped), and "Much Xao Xa Ot" Squid with lemon grass and chili. Both dishes very good. In fact they were good enough for me to want to come back and try the other seafood options, perhaps the "Cha Ca 'Thang Long' Hanoi fried fish with dill" or the "Ca Hap Hanh Gung" (Seasonal) Striped bass steamed with ginger sauce and shallots. Don't be surprised by the corner grocery - store like fascade! The doors open to a snazzy hotel style lobby complete with water fountain and shiny tile floors. With no idea what to order, I flipped to the shrimp entrees page and asked the waiter what his favorite was...he suggested lobster with a sheepish smile. I decided to be smart and save my pennies and go with something cheaper. I wanted to try the bean-curd wrapped shrimp but was told "they don't have it." The waiter suggested shrimp with mixed veggies. The portions were amazing, EASILY divisible for 2+ people for $13. BUT, it was a little bland for my palate :( The sauce was pretty standard stir-fry type soy sauce with corn starch. Nothing extraordinary or strong. The crunchy, freshness of the veggies did help make the dish enjoyable. The shrimp oddly enough did not have a fresh crunch. It was a bit rubbery and "muddy" smelling but large in size. My roommate ordered the much-raved-about (via yelp) Bo luc lac (shaken beef). Not very many people actually described the taste of the dish but just described it as "good". The beef chunks were perfectly chewy and browned. It had a very strong peanut flavor, so if you have any nut allergies, probably not a good idea. It's true, this place is truly gorgeous. I've been here a few times for weddings and for dinner/lunch and the result for food is almost always the same. It's OK. This is what I had yesterday: The Bo Luc Lac I had wasn't as tender as I would have liked it to be- it usually is! The fried rice wasn't bad. Tom rang mui (crispy salty shrimp) looked really good- my mom tried it and said it was good. The lemongrass chicken didn't have any lemongrass flavor to it. Their rice is great though. It was light and fluffy and super tender. I love jasmine rice and a lot of places cheapen out and use some other rice. Overall, their food is a hit or miss. I recommend trying the 7 beef course dinner, I've had it before and it isn't bad. You can't get that at many places and it's pretty unique to Arlington. Just be sure to give yourself some time for the meal.. the 7 course meal takes some time to prepare. I like their Bo 7 Mon. Probably the one thing worth getting if you're planning to visit only one time. This is a very roomy restaurant. It is usually reserved on the weekends for weddings so you'll have to call and check to make sure it's open before you come in to dine. Weddings are usually at night starting at 6. You can order a family style meal where the main ingredient is white rice and you can compliment it with several different entrees. This place is huge. Physically speaking, not metaphorically or anything. If you are Vietnamese or you know anyone who is, chances are you've been to some sort of reception or party at this place. Or if you happen to work in the industrial area of Grand Prairie and you just wanted to try things out. I can appreciate the decor. And I like that they have a ton of options. But when it comes right down to rating the food, I've had better experiences at some of the smaller, lesser known local places. On top of that I have never gotten great service at this place. We probably ate our last meal at Thanh Thanh last night. We ordered a beef dish that was full of fat and gristle. I let our waiter know I couldn't even cut my meat. He asked if I wanted a knife. I said no I want something else. He brought the chicken dish I requested. It was OK but nothing to rave about. My husband went ahead and ate the beef, but said his was also full of gristle and fat. Here for family Easter dinner. My brother always orders the bo luc lac (shaken beef) and fried soft-shelled crab, which both make your tastebuds dance with flavor. The shaken beef is very tender and flavored very well. My boyfriend describes it as "tasty" :). Mom ordered the bo tom muc nuong vi (translation = beef, shrimp, squid - self cook on table top pan). We all get to cook our own protein on the cook top then wrap with in rice paper with vermicelli noodles and various vegetables, which allows flexibility for the picky eaters.
