I guess the economy is doing a number on this place. It used to be pretty good and their version of Larb was one of the best I'd had around here. It sure wasn't the last time I ate here. I think Howard V and John B hit the proverbial nail on the head in their reviews. I stopped in for lunch about a month or so ago to get my Larb fix. I ordered it as usual with sticky rice and iced tea. To backtrack a bit, this place has always been inconsistent (at least when I've eaten there) regarding the items they charge for. Lunch specials come with rice and iced tea, but Larb is not a lunch special. Yet, frequently, I would either not be charged for the rice, the tea, or both. This last time, I was charged for the Larb, the rice, and the tea. OK. No big deal, I guess, since it's not a lunch special but since they set a precedent all the times before, I was a bit surprised when I got the bill - about $13 (not including tip). I guess they're trying to keep the business going and aren't giving anything away anymore. Fine. That wouldn't have been a problem if the Larb had been good. It had gone from fab to flub. The first thing I noticed was that the portion was a lot smaller than usual. Then after I started eating, I noticed that the flavor was way off. Not off like in not-fresh food, but off in that some of the components of the dish were missing. Larb is one of those spicy-salty-sour-hot dishes and this time it was definitely missing the sour (i.e. the lime juice) component. The woman who works there came around and asked how the food was and I said it seemed to need some more lime juice and I asked for some lime wedges. She brought out lemon wedges and said something like 'yea, yea that's how I like it, too'. How you like it too?? Larb MUST have lime juice. It's a major ingredient in the dressing! The lemon wedges she brought out just did not cut it. I wondered why in the world she brought me lemon when I asked for lime, then it occurred to me that maybe they didn't have any (at the time, limes were rather expensive in the markets). And, to be honest, the dish seemed like it needed fish sauce, too, but if I wanted to make my own food, I could have stayed home. I really hope they can get through these bad economic times, but cutting down on quality isn't going to keep their customers coming back. read more

I love this place. The service is slow but the food is top notch! Cashew and green curry chicken here is my fav! The cashew chicken is sauteed and like nothing Ive ever had! If you value your time, don't come here. I came in on a Saturday evening when they have their "Taste of Thai" Festival. I was promised to get seated in ten minutes. I waited for half an hour in the rain (they don't have a covered waiting area and the street is the waiting area), people waited for their tickets while the owner/manager was happily chatting away about the world to his guests. I am all for a friendly management, but there are no excuses for poor customer service. If you can't put your money where your word is, I don't care how good your food is, there is no dirth of great Thai restaurants in the metroplex. read more

I really wanted to love this place. We stopped in for lunch and our one hour lunch almost turned into 2. The food is ok, forgettable, not bad, but just ok. The service-- the poor lady working in the front solo also seemed to be helping in the kitchen. They so need help. I've decided to amend my review of this restaurant, and I no longer recommend it. I don't like to slam a family-run operation so it will suffice to say that they have some major issues with consistency of preparation and portion size. In the Mid-Cities Thai Papaya Garden in Euless is probably a better choice. I'm picky about my Larb. First I want pieces of meat, not ground. Second, I want it warm enough to make my lips tingle, but not so much that the back of my mouth catches fire. And third, and most importantly, I need to taste the fish sauce without tasting fish. Thai Thip makes the perfect Larb. I can also rave about their veggie spring rolls. The perfect veg to noodle ratio and a peanut sauce that is delightful and nutty without being the texture of Jif chunky. Add to that the warm welcome from the owner, and the perfect size for a quiet, but not dead, atmosphere, and you have the makings of a great neighborhood stop. I've been coming here for years and the food is consistently amazing. If you have ever been here in the past, Thai Thippawan has always been very good food, with questionable, and sometime aggravating service... Wonderful people, but clearly had no idea how to run a restaurant. No big deal to me, but it was a complete turnoff for a lot of people. To me, if they've gotten the food right, I take it upon myself to let management know what was wrong with the visit. Now things have changed. Having been hit by bad economic times, the owners Chai and Pat turned the reins over to their super motivated nephew Andre, and he has done a fantastic job trying to make the restaurant as good as can be. Don't worry, they have the same super talented cooks they have always had, so the food is still outstanding. Everything is always fresh and you can get unique dishes here that aren't available at the typical generic Thai restaurants. The noodle soups are a great bargain and you can't beat the price anywhere. Spicy Zay is my favorite go-to dish here, but I like to change it up every once in a while. I've spent a great deal of time discussing the restaurant with Andre and it's changing for the better all the time. If you are cautious about some of the negative reviews, please give it another try and enjoy some really nice personal service and fantastic savory dishes. read more

Loved it. The owner informed me he grew up near the Laotian border and it shows through his style of presentation as well as ingredients and flavors. That entire region of Thailand is by far the best place I have ever eaten in the country. This place doesn't concede to the dry and sometimes unnecessarily spiced dishes you will see sometimes in Thai cuisine. My husband and I went here the other night for dinner for the first time. It was an interesting experience, to say the least. The owner pegged us as newbies as soon as we walked in, and proceeded to tell us his life story throughout our meal. Parts of it were endearing, but at times it was a little overboard for me. My husband didn't mind as much, but, when I happen to know how much you've reduced your electricity bill over the last year, to me, that's a little much. All that chatting aside, the food was great. The owner seemed to be trying to win us over and gave us a free appetizer and dessert, too. Prices were reasonable for the amount of food you got. We're definitely not Thai connoisseurs, so I can't speak to the authenticity of the dishes, but the flavors were fresh and very tasty. Highlights of our meal were the peanut and sweet/sour sauces, crab puff and the sticky rice (yum). Atmosphere was lacking, but we'll go back. read more

This is absolutely my favorite Thai restaurant. The service and quality of food is great! Everything is authentic and fresh. It's hard anymore to find a Thai restaurant that really can add spice to their food that doesn't consist of just "adding more chili pepper," however, Thai Thip breaks that mold. Their food has that great slow burn I expect from traditional thai food. The Chicken Pad Thai and the Tom Kha Soup are the two best entrees in my opinion although you can't go wrong anywhere on the menu. So this place has great reviews which got me really excited. I got the Panang Curry. I was so excited to try it because this is one of my favorite Thai meals... But my curry was almost entirely vegetables and maybe 4-6 small pieces of chicken. I was a little disappointed. Maybe I need to try something else on the menu, but I was not super impressed. The best Thai food I have ever eaten! The variety of food was amazing and delicious! We will be returning frequently for more of the warm atmosphere and delicious food! Tonight was a VERY BUSY night.
