My husband and I went there for lunch today and arrived a little before 11:30 and the restaurant was almost full. We both ordered a chicken entrée. He ordered the Trio chicken and I had the Chili chicken. Both dishes were delicious and very filling. Even though the Chili chicken was advertised as being spicy, it was not. Our servings were huge and we both took home leftovers which will be visited later today. Table service started out great, but became increasingly slower as the restaurant filled up. Now, having written this, I have never seen wait staff move as fast as these ladies moved. Since this place is small, having more wait staff might be a possible bottleneck in the aisles and kitchen. Traveling through KC on 70 I noticed the great Yelp reviews and decided to stop here. This place is amazing! Friendly service and delicious food! This place was a little hard to find. It sits in a strip mall off Douglas and behind a Taco Bell. The decor is fine. The music was a weird mix of classical and 80's type saxophone. The food was good. Not fantastic but we will be back. We had the appetizer sampler. It was quite good. I had the chicken larb and the galanga soup. Both were very tasty but I would have liked them to have been spicier. He had the seafood yellow curry. He enjoyed it with the large pieces of seafood and perfectly cooked squid. I thought the seafood was cooked perfect - not to rubbery bits - but the curry itself was a bit too sweet for my taste. We love thai food and have tried many restaurants. This isn't near the top of the list but it is decent and the service was very good. Not bad for Lee's Summit - the center of all things chain restaurant. read more

The last time I went my server nearly gave my order to the the people sitting a booth down from me because he had forgotten who had ordered what. I think this place should be renamed "everything Asian" because it's definitely not Thai. They have sushi which is Japanese, crab Rangoon which is Chinese and some Thai food options thrown in as well. The ambiance is cute, but the food left a lot to be desired for my friend and I. I ordered my meal "hot" for spice level and it was mild at best. The noodles in my dish were extremely greasy and the chicken was rubbery. I really liked our waitress, but the food was so bad there is no way I could justify coming back. Also, the place was dead silent. This was our first visit to Thai Spice. I think I've only had Thai food once before, so this was a new experience. Upon arrival for dinner we ordered the sampler appetizer. It had 4 crab rangoon, 2 egg rolls split and 2 spring rolls. The spring rolls were my favorite. Very light. A perfect appetizer in my mind. My wife loved the crab rangoon which were excellent as well. The egg rolls were very good, but my least favorite of the three. My wife ordered the honeymoon chicken and I got a noodle dish (I've already forgotten the name). We both ordered them hot (Thai hot is the step hotter) and that was plenty hot. In fact I might get medium next time. Don't get me wrong, it was a good heat. We both loved our orders. Mine had a combination of a wonderful broth, noodles, chicken and vegetables. My wife's was chicken, a side or rice and vegetables. I'd liken my wife's to an orange chicken...but so much better. The reason I didn't give the visit 5 stars was two-fold. First, while the service was good, we were waited on by two different people with no real rhyme or reason why each stopped by. It was weird. Second, I feel like they aren't sure what to do with the inside. The decor isn't great and there are two TVs, one in a random place. I don't think they need the TVs and if they are going to charge what they charge, use it to make the place feel nicer. It just doesn't have the $15 a plate feel (but the food is well worth it). I've been here 5 times at least and every time is a good experience. The servers are friendly and timely. The menu was new and they expanded the space by adding more seats and a sushi bar. There was a lot of cool art on the wall and nice lighting. Ive ordered several different curries and also the basic chicken dishes and it's always delicious. You can tell the owner takes a lot of pride in his work. I will probably take my Laotian parents to this restaurant the next time they're in town. One bonus is there is a lot of gluten free options. My wife, unfortunately, has celiac disease so this place is a great way for her to have many options. I hope this restaurant is here for good because I plan on coming back again and again. read more

Three men walk in and out of the bar without even looking at me. A man comes to the bar and sits down. He is immediately greeted. No one has asked me what I need and now there are two men behind the bar. I say I'm here to pick up an order with neither one still looking at me. I get my food. The crab Rangoons are tiny. SO GOOD! the wait was decent and the staff was very friendly! Me and my wife ordered their Pham Thai, crab fried rice, Tom yum soup, GOLDEN CURRY hands down best version I ever had! Unfortunately The only bad thing I experienced there was the rude customers that sat across from us. They were complaining about how slow the service was and taking it out on a young waiter named Tin, who was also our waiter. But I mean I guess the rude customers did have a point, I mean how dare Tin to not have your stuff ready from the kitchen cause obviously he was the one cooking for your group of 5-6 people and attending the needs of the other customers shame on you Tin! Thai spice has way to large of a menu to make consistently good food. Tonight I called and asked how many won tons were in the wonton soup. Was told 8. Got it home to not only find only 4, but on top of that they were pot stickers in the broth! What a joke! I was here a few weeks ago and ordered the pho. Again, totally wrong. Wrong kind of noodles with hunks of onion in an overly sweet broth. The delicious simplicity of pho was totally lost! Not even lime or sriracha could cover how bad it was! Been awhile since I last visited Thai Spice and I thought it would be a nice break for my wife and I. The door chime sounded when we stepped inside and we waited to be seated. The place was empty withe the exception of a couple in a both. The waitress was about 15 ft from us talking and laughing with the couple in the booth and totally ignored us. Sign on the wall said 'Ring bell for dine in' so we rang the bell. Again we were ignored as she continued her animated discussion. My wife and I both thought she had glanced over at us.. I was wearing cap bearing a retired military logo so maybe she didn't like military? I estimate we stood there for about two or more minutes in clear view and we were even acknowledged by one of the kitchen staff as he walked by in the background. The door chimed again as we opened it to leave. No one followed us out. Don't think we'll be spending our there in the future no matter how good how good the food might be. I ended up at Thai Spice tonight by utter happenstance, versus by plan, but, hey, happy accident! We were trying to make a 7:10 movie, and Waldo Pizza had too long a wait, and then I remembered that there was this little Thai place tucked way back off the street in a strip mall, and thought it might be good to try. While I'd never label myself a Thai food aficionado, I've had it enough to know what I like, and from some tasty places, and I was game to see how it measured up. My expectations for atmosphere were low...blase strip mall, right? But, when you walk it, it's nicely appointed...nice low lighting, but not the kind of low lighting that's meant to conceal, well, grunginess. The place was spotless, and nicely decorated with lots of photographs and art from Thailand (I assume). It's small and narrow, most tables are small, so big group probably wouldn't do well, here. The service was fast, friendly, and efficient. There is a bar, and the tone is quiet, but not overwhelmingly so...there was ambient music on, and it was actually pretty nice to be in a place that wasn't stuffed to the gills with loud chatter on a Friday night. There were quite a few other diners, but it was still a relaxing atmosphere. The menu is pretty massive, for such a small place with a presumably small kitchen...I went, after much deliberation, with the Bangkok Platter, which was meat of your choice (all their entrees are meat/tofu of your choice, and priced differentially according to what meat/tofu you order) sauteed in peanut sauce, served on a load of steamed veggies and jasmine rice. Boyfriend got one of the fried rice dishes, extra spicy. The food was delicious, although I think next time, I'll go with something with a bit more kick. I had Thai iced tea, with the sweetened condensed milk, which was delicious. The price was on par with, say Applebee's, but a ton of food. It also tasted light and healthy. I notice their menu notes no MSG, and the veggies are typically steamed and dishes include LOTS of 'em. I got tofu in lieu of meat, and it was a little skimpy, but delicious. We got crab rangoon (inauthentic, I know, big deal), and it was probably the LEAST greasy and most crabby-tasting I've had in ages. I know it was imitation crab, but at least it wasn't cream cheese with a hint of crab, like so many. Very garlicky, nice chili oil dipping sauce, and small enough to be a real appetizer, not a meal-spoiler. read more

I live near here and have now eaten there twice. As a fan or getting things as spicy as I want, I generally love Thai food. This locale doesn't make "Thai hot" as hot as other places, but they give you the condiments to blaze your mouth as much as you like when the food comes. We had Basil Stir Fry and some soup (I forget the name, but it was broth based and delicious!). Service was excellent, and the place was really clean. Hidden in a strip mall in Lee's Summit, this is a real treasure. I loved the variety on the menu - they offered a lot of choices I hadn't seen at other Thai places. I love the option of adding any protein also. I have the Ginger Delight with tofu ($9.95) and was brought a large dish with a plentiful amount of fresh veggies and tofu. The sauce was mild with a definite bite of ginger. My BF got the Cashew stirfry with tofu - I really liked the brown sauce and the large amount of cashews. The service was attentive. The Thai ice tea was strong and sweet. Overall, I'm really glad we gave this place a try and I look forward to returning to try other dishes. read more

They've always been super friendly, fair-priced and quick to make my orders for pick up. The inside is calming and comfortable as well. Food is good and not at all spicy for the medium spicy levels. The service is excellent! Food is plenty and tasty! Nothing much to say except you try and see for yourselves. Food is not that special, just like the normal Thai restaurants but it's quite filling. The Signature Fried Rice was good and Pad Thai was "supposed" to be the best but it's was nothing!! I love eating at Thai Spice! My mom and I rave about this place. I usually order Mushroom and baby corn with tofu off the lunch menu, and Black soy sauce noodles with tofu off of the dinner menu. I order all my dishes hot spicy, and they cook all the dishes with the right amount of heat. When you order off the lunch menu, you receive a side soup and 2 crab rangoons. I have ordered from Thai Spice on dozen occasions now after having an initially dismal experience the first time I visited them. Since that visit, I have found their food and service to be wonderful. My favorites are the Pad Thai (although they could throw a little more fish sauce in there) and the Grahama Chicken (SP? It's chicken and rice with a delicious peanut sauce). I have also tried their Crispy chicken which is very good. A word of caution for those sensitive to spice: the cooks can and go way over the bounds of established spice levels. If you order medium, it's likely to be super spicy. While I love spice, I prefer to taste my food and will ask for it extra mile and add spice if needed from their spice condiment jars. It's a great place to eat. Usually gets packed during lunch hour so be prepared to wait if you are right in the thick of it. read more
