On first impressions we assumed it would be lovely but after being seated we waited for 20 minutes to be served while watching the servers look at our table multiple times only to turn and walk away... we finally got the attention of a lovely young lady and she took our orders, my partner axel asked for a thai tea but was told, "it takes a long time, you should probably order something else" which seems like a bit of silly response. Anyways, axel and i still love each other very much and can fill up on each others love when we get back to the hotel.

My friend and I had been wanting to try yumcha at Spicy Ginger in Acton for a while, so we finally…read moremanaged to go there on a Sunday. I've only ever been there once a few years ago, and living up to its name, most of the dishes we ordered were very spicy. Yumcha is $22 per person, and you can basically have anything you want from the trolleys or from the dishes the wait staff bring around. Pan-fried pork and vegetable dumplings - probably my favourite dumplings of the day. Really yummy pork with grated veggies and chives in a perfectly pan-fried dumpling. Surprisingly yummy! Yumcha here is reasonably priced and you can eat whatever you want until you're full. The wait staff come around with plates of dumplings and other food, asking how many you'd like, so you could go to town here and have as many dumplings and other dishes as you want. I thought the food was average but decent. I noticed there weren't any desserts (atleast during the time I was there). I found service was attentive and friendly. Our tea and cold tap water was served very quickly after we had arrived. I still prefer yumcha at The Scholar or Noble Palace, but for the price, Spicy Ginger offer a pretty decent alternative. One of my favourite restaurants in Canberra has long been the Chairman and Yip and on our recent…read moretrip I was a little disconcerted to see it was no longer at its Bunda Street address - I found later it had moved to new digs in Barton - and in its place is Tasting China. Well we were there, so in we went.... Still a very elegant and inviting place -dark wood, a splash of colour around, comfortable seating, moody lighting - and the menu was appealing. A good range of dishes representing the cuisines of Canton, Sichaun and Shanghai. The wine list is well put together, with a fine selection of regions and varieties, although somewhat limited where "by the glass" is concerned. But a bottle of Geoff Merrill's Grenache rosé suited us just fine! To the food - we began with Zhong dumplings - gelatinous and tender dumplings filled with a mix of chopped boiled prawns and ginger, and doused with a mix of soy and garlic and chilli oil. These were simply outstanding - among the best dumplings we have eaten - the filling was juicy and aromatic, full of warm flavours and the companion sauces and oils a wonderful boost. Our second starter, sea scallops with sugar snap peas, sesame oil and ginger sauce, was another mouth-watering experience - the scallops were plump and luscious, so very lightly cooked, a scatter of shredded ginger added warmth and spice, while the snappy peas crunched and delighted. Stunning. Warned of the size of the mains by our waiter, we ordered only one - a very wise move - and our Sichuan Rock Ling in hot chilli oil arrived - a massive bowl of soup filled with batons of succulent fish, and well stocked with Sichuan pepper, numbing the lips and delighting the palate. A bowl of steamed rice helped soak up the soup. This was a very spicy and fitting conclusion to a brilliant lunch. I have to say Tasting China is a more than worthy tenant of the old Chairman site - excellent food, great waiters, very good beverage list, welcoming décor - it will be on my must visit restaurants for future trips to Canberra. We loved it.... Absolutely recommended!!

I really like this little cafe. If I am staying in Civic or nearby, I always visit to get my…read moretakeaway dinner. It's a simple restaurant tucked in the corner of Garema Place alongside lots of other cafes and bars. Despite the fact that there are never more than a few people in the place, it seems to have outlasted many of the other cafes and bars that come and go. Typical Vietnamese and Chinese fare cooked fresh to order. On my most recent visit I ordered the Vietnamese Pancake with pork filling. As it was takeaway, that put the pancake in one container, sauce in another and salad in a ziplock bag so I could make it up back at the hotel. It was delicious and very good value at $14.50 as it also did me for lunch the next day. Don't be put off by the fact that's there are not many people in the cafe. They do a roaring trade in takeaway. Service is friendly too.

After tasting their seafood laksa, I understand the fuss. It tasted authentic, the portion was huge and the price was very competitive. I also love the friendly service and the sweet gesture of offering a bowl of shrimp crackers to snack on while we wait for the food. The place is at a convenient location too so it definitely deserves a visit if you're looking for food around London Circuit.

French toast with berries, compote and marscopone was delicious (if a trifle sweet for me). Toast with poached eggs and avocado was cooked perfectly and served with the freshest lemon. The smoked trout tortilla is a great, high protein way to start the day, while the sausage and egg brioche burger is a significant upgrade on what you could get at other *ahem* breakfast outlets, with crunchy and fresh tasting bread and a rather delicious onion marmalade. I haven't tried the lemon pancakes but they are on my to-try list. The meals are well presented and just right in portion size. The prices are reasonable in Canberra terms but beware the sides- I paid $3 for the mushrooms, which was literally one medium size mushroom.
