I have been to their (unfortunately soon extinct) brunch twice and tried their tea pairing menu for the first time today, and am a big fan. Besides their tea, their scones, tar cake, and jams are especially divine. To me, although delicious, the Chai Wan tea pairing menu is a bit too sweet(ish) pastry concentrated and could do with more savoury items, including cheese, perhaps, and fresh fruit. But this is a matter of taste, of course. A definite bonus for a tea addict, such as myself, is that you get as many refills of tea with your menu as you want. However, you often have to hunt down a member of the personnel to ask for your refill and wait quite a while for it; their service could be a bit more proactive, in this sense. Other than that, the personnel are most friendly and informative. Chai Wan also have a shop with a nice selection of teas and tea paraphernalia. Their tea pot variety is particularly impressive.

Tea is much bigger in Russia than Finland, but I'm glad to see The Ounce setting up in Finland and expanding. The Ounce carries around forty different gourmet tea varieties that all seem to be very well selected and ethically sourced. Take a wiff, take your pick and take it home! It is a pricy gourmet tea store, even for Finnish standards, but I believe the quality is worth it.

We thoroughly enjoyed our tea time under the shady trees paired with vegan Karelian Finnish rice pies and a cozy Kohlrabi soup.
