Like many of the reviews on here, there was a small glimmer of poor customer service for my visit. The optometrist and his assistant were very friendly, sociable, and concerned with my needs. The front desk was kind as well. Sadly, once I reached the table to try frames on, the assistant there was disinterested and would recommend frame styles that I specifically said I didnt like. And after an glasses I tried on, they replied "those look good/great/better" but all in all, didnt seem to care. They just kinda sat there... it was a bit awkward and unfriendly. But overall, my exam was excellent and had a large assortment of frames. read more

I had a really great experience with my appointment. I was with Dr. Turner, and she worked with me to figure out the right prescription since I always get headaches with glasses even after wearing them for a while. Her assistant was quick and sweet as well. Only concern was that I was not greeted or looked at when walking in by front desk staff. But they were nice once I initiated conversation. Also the people that help with finding glasses were exceptional! Overall great experience and will be back. In and out in about an hour. read more

Reason for three stars is Doc Stanfield is wonderful but I had to wait for almost an hour over my appt time to see him. Staff was mediocre, the place was packed... (apparent scheduling issues) and since I waited so insanely long to be seen my rating would be a one star overall, but Dr Stanfield kicked it up 2 stars. I'm not sure why their rating isn't higher. They were awesome! I've had to have eye exams for the past 10+ years. I went to sign in and one of the ladies looked up from what she was doing to make sure she greeted me. The woman that took me back was very friendly and explained everything very well. She completed all the routine tests, pictures and a new test that replaced the "puff of air" test (sooooo much better). The doctor came in and delivered speedy service! I've been through this a million times and they could tell so they conducted the appointment as so. I would highly recommend them. read more

Overall, It was a great place! Dr. Stanfield had great manners and a sense of humor and his assistants were great and welcoming as well. Melony and Cap had wonderful customer skills and demonstrated patience while I kept going back and forth between frames. Had a horrible experience here. Avoid at all costs. Unfriendly front desk. Technician and eye doctor were both friendly and awesome, but when it came time to pay, the front desk crashed and burned. Ended up charging me twice, and I had to go through the bank to get the disputed charge dropped, was out 80 dollars for almost 3 weeks. read more

Dr. Vandal of West Lake Eye specialists uses TSO for all followup appointments after cataract surgery. After I paid $3000 for surgery, TSO would not give me my new eye prescription without an additional $39 payment. What? And they never called me in for my 3 month and 6 month followups that are part of the process which I assume Dr. Vandal had reimbursed them for. In addition, it turns out they don't honor medicare assistance for the pair of glasses that medicare pays for after cataract surgery. They told me to go to the internet and find someone that does. The staff was pleasant, their procedures not senior friendly. I would not recommend them for cataract surgery followup. read more

We have been going for years, the staff is wonderful and the doctors are very knowledgeable and put my daughter to ease while checking her eye sight. The wait time to get seen was ridiculous (there was hardly anyone else there besides me). The frame and lens plus all the add-ons were so expensive. My glasses didn't even last me one whole year. When I took the glasses back the manager could only say, sorry too bad, the warranty expired. The lenses were not supposed to turn blurry. My other lenses I purchased at another place are four years old and have never turned blurry. This place rips people off with their high fees/costs. They are trying to offset paying for their rude workers and paying on that establishment. Needless to say, I am concerned about the quality of care I received. I am currently in search of a new eye doctor. I will be taking myself, my daughter and son elsewhere. Don't get ripped off by this company. read more

Only come here if you want an eye infection. The "eye care professional" decided that it was okay to put THEIR fingers on my contact lenses. I am a Social Worker in the community of San Marcos. I don't have much time on my hands. I first received a trial pair of contact lenses after my eye exam in February. Within the first day, the lens in my right eye ripped. Hopefully, this was not their fault. However, as I am Social Worker in this community, having multiple clients in this area, I was not able to come back in a timely manner. This was my mistake. Consequently, I had to pay for another trial pair. This was fine. However, what was NOT fine was the fact that the person who was handling the contact lenses decided that it was okay to not give me the contact lenses securely in the packaging. Instead, they took out the contact lenses and put them in the contact lens case with solution and everything without me seeing. This didn't make much sense to me, and I cannot go and do my job, getting sick from an eye infection, unable to work with my clients because of something that Texas State Optical of San Marcos, Texas did. A mistake that should have never been made. When I opened the case, the left side had black dirt particles in it. Which happens when a person's finger or glove is dirty, or the case has not been cleaned properly before being used. I already paid for the contact lenses and asked for a refund. Apparently, their manager was out and she/he is the only one that can do refunds. As a result, I have to wait until Monday to receive a refund. I also tried to use my Care Credit card and they had the signage posted saying that I could use it. Apparently, they cannot run a Care Credit card through unless a manager is there. So, technically, Care Credit is not available at all times. Take the sign down, or write on the sign that you can only use it when management is there. It looks like the majority of the people on here feel as if the staff are incompetent. Looks like this place may need some additional training, or to be just let go entirely. read more

We spent an entire year working with the office staff trying to get a reimbursement of a negotiated discount with our insurance. It is obvious now that they never had any intention of honoring our insurance. When we got our exams the receptionist denied our insurance coverage so we paid for it up front. After we filed it outselves to get our $250 allowance reimbursement each, we found out they did indeed have a contract with our insurance company, but they denied it still even after providing written proof. So we had our insurance company call them directly. After several months and more calls from our insurance company they finally agreed to refile for us using a different code. They didn't want to have to reimburse us $51 as specified by the original claim we submitted. They did re-file, but on my claim only which was pointless by this time because I had already used my entire allowance on the cost of glasses. They never did re-file my spouse's claim which did (and still does) have a credit allowance available. Using the claim resubmitted for me only they still deny that that either exam was covered by our insurance. So we both overpaid for the exams, and we are not able to recover the balance of my spouse's vision care allowance. To add insult to injury, every time we called them we were chastised for not being patient and not appreciating their hard work and diligence on these claims. It is what it is, folks. We can't afford to pay for insurance we are unable to use. Because we don't want other innocent people to be taken advance of by this office, we will be filing an official complaint with our insurance company. Buyer be ware! read more

I was at my appointment on time and was told they were running a little late. I didn't get seen for two hours and 15 minutes. I should have just left but sat in traffic and I figured I was there. They never said it was going to take that long they just said a few minutes more a few minutes more a few minutes more . When it was my turn the doctor seemed very nice. Yet he was frazzled and I didn't get the appropriate time which resulted in a wrong eye glass script and a wrong contact script. He actually didn't even do my contacts just had me put in my old ones even though I'm on medication for dry eyes and I told him I couldn't wear the contacts more than three hours when I used to wear them 12 hours a day. Because he had no time he just wanted to change the script of my old contacts. I left very upset and very disappointed because I am not confident in my eyeglasses or my contacts script. I would Highly recommend booking only first a.m. appointments because everybody else in the waiting office said the last time they were there they were there for three hours yet if you show up 15 minutes late they cancel your appointment. There just is no excuse when I went through and everybody else went through I'm no better off than when I went in. read more

On June 28th my wife and I went in for our yearly eye exam and elected not to have our eyes dilated and we where told that's fine and that they also have a machine that takes pictures of your eyes and we could do that instead and it usually is a $35.00 charge per person. I am on a fixed income and said no thank you and the optometrist told my wife and I we have no choice that it is a required service by Texas law and our insurance and if we won't do it the exam is over have a good day so my wife and left and contacted our insurance and multiple optometrist that told us it is not a required service it is an elective service. My insurance carrier contacted them and the optometrist lied to them and told them we where diabetic and needed the service and to clear that up my wife and I are not diabetic. So my advice to you consumers that wish to use this optometrist for your vision needs please beware they are scamming you for more out of pocket money and you should beware of there tactics read more

I had a regular eye exam. The doctor discovered I needed a minor surgery (at a different facility) before I could be fitted for glasses. As I was checking out, the girl at the front desk said part of the fee I was paying was $35 for refraction (the glasses fitting part), that I should go ahead and pay that, and when I came to get my eye glasses fitted after the surgery, it would already be paid. My gut said get her to deduct it now and pay for refraction when you come back. I should have listened to my gut. I had the surgery, and I don't need glasses. I called TSO and asked them to refund the $35 refraction fee since I no longer need it. And now, it appears, that's not the way it works. It's not a separate fee. Hmmmmm. If that's true, just train your people better. My thoughts: If you'll cheat small, you'll cheat big. If you misinform about small things, you'll misinform about large things. It's just $35, but I won't be back. read more

I had a wonderful experience at TSO in San Marcos. I hadn't been to the eye doctor since 2006 so I was a little nervous about going in. The actual exam was quick and with the new technology, painless. The part I dreaded most was picking out frames. The last time I picked out frames, I had someone with me to give me an extra opinion. Alone and unsure, the optician lent a helping hand. I told her what style I liked and we both went around picking out frames. We narrowed the big pile down to two pairs and when I still couldn't decide, she took me to a computer and took photos of the glasses on my face at different angles so I could see for myself. After doing that, I ended up loving the pair she selected for me. She was very knowledgeable and wanted to make sure I was happy with the frames. I would definitely go back, as well as recommend them to any of my friends. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Stanfield for several years and truly enjoy the services I received from Cody and him. I read the other reviews and yes, the front desk staff can be rude and unhelpful. But this time, I was greeted upon entering, Suzie did listen to the information about my insurance and contacted the company directly, which demonstrates the front desk staff can deliver good customer service. The person who helped me with my glasses was not very informative and at one point "snapped" at me for wanting to stay within the guidelines of my insurance for purchases. Nonetheless, I continued with this interaction and by the end he and I both were happy and laughing. If you have a complaint, do not leave without talking to the doctor if the front desk cannot help address your concern(s). I truly believe Dr. Stanfield wants to provide good services from the front desk, technicians, and professional staff and he has for me! I would recommend this office specifically Cody and Dr. Stanfield. read more

Will never ever come here again! Our insurance listed them as a preferred in-network location so we came for an eye exam and glasses. We handed them our insurance card and went on with the appt and picked out glasses. We paid over $350 out of pocket by the time we left. As customers you feel that your insurance saved you what they could but months later I find out they never billed insurance. When we bring this to their attention and they claim we handed them a discount card. We pick up our itemized receipt from them and clearly says where they billed our insurance. Then at this this time they say oh we found the insurance plan, claiming we didn't give them the correct info at the time. LIES!! (They also didn't file to medical for another claim which I handed my medical card. They just charge how they want) So now to cover their butts they file a claim which is denied because has been over 180 days, which they still do not admit is their own fault. I am disgusted with them and how they deceive their patients and who knows who else they have done this to! They have been "trying to resolve" my problem for 2.5 months, yet they still don't call me I have to call them and find still stuck at square 1! Example 1:charged $81 for exam which should have been $10 at most $49! read more

I have always enjoyed TSO but the wait is ridiculous and only getting worse. Last eye exam I waited an hour and I was pretty upset because there was not alot of people ahead of me or behind me. If it wasn't for the doctors son working their I would have probably not come back or have left. But the young man was very professional caring and loving. He kept apologizing for the slow-women in the front office. Finally he told one of them "excuse me she has to leave back to work she has been here going on two hours now.(that was including eye exam one hour just for waiting)" Then all of the sudden they stopped what they were doing and exited me out with paper work. This last time I came in to buy contacts same prescription and color all I wanted to do was pay for it. Well I sat down again for 20min. I kept looking around to see what the hold up was and to my surprise all three customers were being waited on and there was three women on the front office who occasionally, stopped working to make side kick jokes and laugh among themselves. Then went back to typing and answering phones. One particular women/receptionist all she did was answer phones and when she didn't would crack jokes with other employees all the while pretending I was there sitting in front of her face. So I left. That is when I decided there has got to be a good Dr. Optometrist with good sold customer/patient that care. To TSO in San Marcos teach your empoyees about customer relations and perhaps get them to attend customer instead of cracking jokes. read more

My experience at this place was a frustrating one. My original prescription glasses turned out incorrect. I am writing this review with my second pair of glasses, computer glasses, yet everything looks disproportionate (computer screen looks slightly narrower to the right). Possibly a bad prescription. My $20 reading glassed, honestly, do a better job. Waste of time besides having to deal with rude people, not everyone I have to say. The first time I came back because my glasses did not work as expected, I was told that it was due to my request to have the reading area of bifocal higher than what most people would request, since I was going to use them mainly for computer. I was also told that my insurance might not cover for the second pair of glasses. In other words, my fault that glasses didn't work, and that I had to pay for new ones out of my pocket. Over the second time I came back to pick up my "computer glasses". I though that they would have me try them out with a computer screen but instead I was giving a reading glasses test. Not after practically begin for it , this lady let me use her computer screen. Conclusion: Need another exam for the correct prescription. Not going back there for it though. read more
