The first, which was last…read moreyear, was something of a disappointment as for some reason there was no cooked food available so we had to opt for sandwiches. Fortunately this time around cooked food was on the menu so my wife and daughter ordered baked potatos, one with prawns and one with beans and cheese while I opted for cheese omlettes. The potatos arrived first and were huge, buried under generous servings of filling and with side salads. I got two omlettes, both with plenty of melted cheese in the middle, along with thin chips and side salad and was more than happy with both quantity and quality. All three meals were excellent value for money and if we didn't live so far from Caernarfon I think we'd become regulars here. On the down side the cafe is small and so it can be difficult to find a table. We were lucky that some people were just leaving as we arrived, otherwise we may not have waited. They also appear a little understaffed as empty tables don't always get cleared and cleaned as quickly as you might expect. I also felt that unlike the food the drinks are a bit over-priced for the amount you get. All in all though Morrisons cafe offers very good value for money.

At the moment petrol is 93.9p a itre at the Morrisons petrol station in Caernarfon, which is 2p a litre under the local Tesco petrol station and a few pence under the price of BP's petrol station a few miles away. As well as being the cheapest place to buy petrol, Morrisons also offer a reward scheme whereby if you purchase 500 litres of petrol they will give you a £5 voucher to be used within Morrisons store. The petro station is the right size, there is rarely a queue to get petrol, or to pay for it. There's gloves and handy wipes available at the pumps. The shop has a good selection of drinks and confectionary. There is also a car wash, and air and water facilities.

It seems this is Kate and Will's supermarket of choice when they're in residence on Anglesey. You do wonder in fact if this shop was opened by royal request because I can't understand why Waitrose should open their only branch in North Wales (that I know of at least) on the outskirts of such a quiet backwater as Menai Bridge. I recently visited for the first time, I'd been working on Anglesey and was attracted by a offer I'd half heard on an advert I'd half watched. In the event I couldn't find what I was after, maybe the offer had expired or maybe I'd misheard the ad. It turns out Waitrose is a more expensive version of Sainsburys, not somewhere I'd go for the weekly shop even if I didn't live twenty miles away but possibly somewhere I'd go for the odd treat. On quibble is that the carpark is quite busy and clearly they've tried to maximise the number of cars it can accommodate by minimising the size of the parking bays. The result is very tight parking spaces which isn't convenient given the proportion of elderly drivers, who may not be agile enough to squeeze out of a half open door, and also the number of Chelsea tractors which struggle to squeeze in. Expect the odd dent in your door if you visit often.

Visited the store this morning Saturday 3rd January at 09.30 and parked in one of the disabled…read moreparking spaces. When my wife tried to get out of the car she slipped on the ice that was untreated across the whole area. She was fortunate that she was able to stop herself from falling by holding onto the door. I drove from the parking spaces and found a lesser frozen area. We made our way across the pedestrian crossing and into front of the store. The surface of the crossing and surrounding areas was very slippery and untreated with many people nearly falling. When we were leaving at 10.15 I saw a storeman had started to throw salt on the crossing and along the pathway With the car park so frozen at that time why as a matter of duty of care hadn't it occurred to anyone to make the areas clear of ice before the store got busy with customers.

This Tesco store takes a bit of getting to as it's located on a roundabout in between Bangor and…read moreCaernarfon. What's good about this store is that it's the only 24 hour supermarket for miles, but as it's a bit too far for people from Bangor to walk to, it's very quiet of a night. The Tesco store has an excellent cafe which is located above the store floor up an escalator which means customers get to people watch others doing their shopping (and look at the dust on top of the aisles!) whilst they drink their coffee, eat their muffin and read their newspaper. The cafe is quite large and there's always an abundance of free seats and plenty of staff serving which minimises the queueing time. Prices in the cafe are reasonable, for example a cafe latte coffee is around £1.15 whilst a jacket potato with a little pot of tuna is £2.50. The store has a great entertainment section, with a wide range of dvds and cds, and all the latest mobile phones, mp3 players, kettles and other electrical goods. As well as this they have an entire row filled with the yellow deal racks, which include stationary, clothes, tools and home utensils, and some of the special offers are located immediately upon entering the store, which highlights the best offers.

I recently visited this Asda for the first time on a very busy bank holiday weekend. Being a small…read moreshop (in comparison to other Asda's I've visited) it was packed out, with a queue just to get onto the car park. After a short wait a parking space became available and in I went. To be fair they have pretty much anything you can get in a larger store and I managed to get everything I needed. After another queue at the tills, not enough but no space for more, I made my way out of the car park which had if anything got even busier.

There is a large car park and I have never struggled to park here. The shop is often busy and it can be difficult to get around amongst all the other shoppers. There are not very many check outs which results in some long queues. The staff at the tills are generally quite friendly and there are usually quite a lot of staff on the shop floor, though they are more likely to be talking to friends than helping customers. The prices are quite low compared with other local supermarkets, but this is reflected in the quality of the goods. There are a lot of non food goods, and recently a George clothing department has been opened.

DIOLCH AM SIOPA HEFO ALDI. SPEND A LITTLE - LIVE A LOT (ALDI UK). Aldi encourages people to bring their own shopping bags instead of using plastic bags. Bought milk, mineral water, wheat beer, coffee (no, not instant ;-)), and more. It made a huge difference to my shopping in Machynlleth moneywise. I also got fresh fruit here! Since life in Wales is expensive one has to go here unfortunately really.

Staff are friendly and will always open up a checkout if a long queue is forming. Recently, they've set up a little bakery near the entrance, which produces a few simple goods such as baguettes, doughnuts and pastries.

However when I started a short term job in Caernarfon I was pleasantly surprised to find that they are still trading. The sell mainly frozen food at very cheap prices. I'm not always sure about the quality of the produce and I wouldn't want to live entirely on their food but it's a great place to pick up odd bits and pieces from time to time.

There's always a wide variety of biscuits, cakes, frozen goods, cheeses and yogurts, vegetables, bread, crisps and confectionary items, but these change regularly, particularly the crisps, sweets and confectionary. They have the well known brands such as McCains, Weight Watchers, McVities, KP, Walkers and Cadbury, etc and whilst they do have a few items of their own label, they're in the minority by far. One thing to be aware of is the LA range of pizzas and other items - the box looks like Chicago Town but the products are inferior, so I'd avoid these personally. They always have a wide variety of cheaply priced meats, such as lamb, chicken, beef mince and steak mince, and lately they've had a good selection of different types of fish and seafood - including mussels, cockels, prawns and even lobster. The large boxes of biscuits are delicious and very cheap the crisps and confectionary are the cheapest around including Poundstretchers, Netto and Home Bargains. The store seems clean and the staff are friendly. There's also a box to purchase saver stamps.

So after a near 4 hour drive we called into a bright airy Morrisons supermarket in Holyhead 10 mins drive from the 'Irish' ferry to Dublin. It calls itself Irish Ferries but is crewed by an almost 100% non - Irish workforce, supplied by a 3rd party agency whose minimum wage lifestyles of a few quid an hour and a cut for the agency of course have helped make Eamon Rothwell and JB Mc Guckian inadequately taxed multi - millionaires. We shopped for fresh baked bread. I got a loaf with cheese baked in for £2 and a litre of fresh milk about a quid for breakfast in the morning but we also had in mind some food for our journey to avoid the overpriced muck that passes for food on the not at all Irish ferry. This slop gets to me every time. I mean why on Earth can't they just make tasty good food, with fresh ingredients. I couldn't imagine either Rothwell or JB allowing this rubbish into their mouths. I noted on board that a shallow bowl of minestrone soup, made from a packet, is €10. A factory made chicken curry and cheap white rice is near €20. If you served this stuff free in a prison you'd have a riot and the prisoners would likely join in. So we spotted a meal deal in Morrisons that gave us two oriental salads one chicken based and one sweet potato/bhaji based which were tasty spiced for factory made, two costa coffees, again much better than Mc Donald's and a snack from a range of chocolate bars thru packets of crisps. We got two complete meals with our coffees and snacks under a tenner or for less than the price of one serving of packet soup aboard.

Best supermarket on Anglesey. Morrisons seem to stock a wider choice of food items than others on…read morethe island. The store is well designed and has wide aisles for easy access. I rarely see supermarket cages left on the shopfloor too, which is good as they can be a pain to navigate pass. They tend to have cheaper prices and better deals than the competition and I find their own brand products much nicer too. Checkout is fast and friendly. The cafe is also suprisingly good. It has a wide selection of meals on the menu and is staffed by friendly and hard working individuals. I've had better meals here than I've had at some fancy restraunts and pubs! Highly recommended for the weekly/monthly food shopping exeprience.
