Following my frustration with my local Sainsburys, I was excited about the opening of the new Tesco Metro on Long Lane, just a bit further down. Weeks of anticipation seemed to have been rewarded with a fresh, clean, well-staffed supermarket. However, what started off really well has very quickly gone downhill. The layout is much better than Sainsburys, which I like, plus they have automated checkouts - although strangely, still only one queue for all checkouts combined. They are often out of stock on items, and half the time I shop there they have run out of large bags. They also seem to have a terrible habit of putting too many heavy items in one bag, so I keep having to ask them to double-bag my shopping. Is it really so hard to get a reliable local supermarket? I now find myself having to go between this Tescos and the local Sainsburys, both of which are as bad as each other, but neither of which can supply me with everything on my shopping list. read more
