When your Lear Jet is stuck in the garage and you need to get to your weekend house on the North…read moreSea, you'll most likely drive up the A1. Filled with plenty of rest stops, some of which have been profiled on that show with Lilo Wanders, there is little shortage of McDonalds and Burger Kings along the way.
My wife and I were pleasantly surprised to come across this place. Like a pair of Fruit of the Loom tighty whiteys, the very modest exterior hides the treasure within. They had a menu but I didn't bother to open it up. Sadly, it had been so long since I had been to Germany that all I wanted to eat was Currywurst and Pommes which according to a large sign came in small and large. I ordered the small which was huge and found it delicious. The fries and sausage were crisp and tasted good.
To complement the meal, the kind service offered the local apple juice which had a nice smooth taste which was neither too sweet nor too acidic. The apples come from Stade, home to the license plate abbreviation STD, which might be what gives the juice its extra zesty taste. Before we left we picked up some drinks for the weekend, with and without alcohol. I forget what we paid but all in all it was definitely a great value.
Update: Not sure if this place still exists.
