Amazing historical site . This small cemetery was originally part of the grounds for the St. Agnes Church. The cemetery served the mining community of Terlingua and graves as early as 1903 are here.
Instead of fancy tombstones and monuments, the graves here are marked with grottoes, filigree crosses, folkart, and other decorations, many handmade by family artisans.
While most of the graves here are old, there are some more contemporary ones too that seem to bridge fates between the past and present. Many of the graves, old and new, are still tended to diligently. There are relics left by many a friend and family members. Some graves have lawn chairs by them where loved ones have come for more lengthy visits.
I know a cemetery may not be your highest item on your travel agenda, but this one really is a must-see. read more
