On June 7th of this year my husband passed away. We had his memorial service in the Chapel in the Woods at Kol Ami for a substantial but reasonable price. I called them to find out about Yizkor Service attendance. (A one hour service) The executive Director told me it would cost $400 for my daughter and I to attend this service due to security reasons. While it may be reasonable to know who is going to attend in advance, I question whether two people will cost that much for security. I believe that Jewish law directs that no mourner should be turned away from Yizkor worship. In the end, my daughter and I went to Yizkor Services at Woodlands Temple with friends. No charge and a welcoming atmosphere.

Kol Ami is a very inviting and down to earth reform Synagogue. I've been a member for many years…read moreand I could not imagine going anyplace else. They have a great selection of classes for adults and a really good nursery school and religious school. There are many social activities as well. One of my favorite things is the music at services. The Cantor has a fabulous voice and puts an interesting twist on the music. Nothing boring when he leads the service. The 2 Rabbi's are very cool and between the two of them they manage to relate to everyone from the kids to the older people. The Sanctuary was just renovated and it is beautiful. It is now a great place for a wedding.

Everyone here is amazing, the rabbi, the cantor, the rabbi for learning, the director of the religious school, the security crew, the office staff, the volunteers, and, especially, all the members, in all their diversity. We are lucky indeed to have this community in our midst.

It's a cool thing actually, because it gives area residents a chance to chat it up and it gives the babies the opportunity to chill out and check out other babies. Open to all, so even if you're not Jewish they'll be happy to have you. The staff was very, very nice, and some of the people were too. Though, there were a few Scarsdale ladies who obviously thought they were the second coming of Sheba, there to to be lavished with praise and attention from us peons. Ugh.
