I have worked as a contractor for years. I have never had anyone not pay me or argue that they did. Like many other places today they hire people who do not know how to handle basic things. My bank received not one penny from them This used to be the gem of Detroit.... No longer....my family were members and worked there for generations .. it has changed... their constituents and employees are all new. They charge the constituent excessively, the staff is not trained , and they have no respect on the phone ... just excuses when it is time to pay for services rendered. They had a Bar Mitzvah during Rosh Hashanah /Yom Kippur if that tells you anything more. That is a huge nono. Go elsewhere. read more

I'll admit I'm a bit biased, because this is my home congregation, but TBE is really a lovely shul. Lots of activities, a new Rabbi (Mark Miller) who's bringing a bit of modernity to worship and congregational life, and a VERY strong Religious Education program. If you're "shul shopping" in Metro Detroit, be sure to visit Beth El. It's big enough to have a lot going on, but not so huge that you ever feel lost or disconnected. Our family has visited most every Conservative and Reform congregation in Metro Detroit, and every place we visit just reminds us of why we chose to call Temple Beth El home.
