Grey Lynn Community Centre

Grey Lynn Community Centre

Grey Lynn

I love Grey Lynn for the very reason that it is so community based. And it's places like the Grey…read moreLynn Community Centre that make it such a strong community. Here they hold markets here, church services, school holiday programmes and classes. It's a beautiful building that is a pleasure to hang out in. There are lots of different rooms and spaces so there's something to suit every kind of event or group. It's really awesome that places like this still exist. I've been to a church service there and it was a really warm and comfortable place to visit. I really want to check out the farmer's market on Sunday and also the Pilates classes they hold there at 5:30 on Thursdays!

The first time I went to the community centre was for a youth talent show. The room was perfect as it accommodated the number of attendees. The kitchen was always clean and located inside the hall we where using. This made it easier at snack time as it was just a matter of taking items from the kitchen to the table we had set up buffet style outside the kitchen. The rooms are also built in a way that makes it flexible to arrange the room the way that suits you and your event. Although there is parking on site, it is limited. Luckily there are plenty of off street parking spaces.

I've taken younger family members here and it's definitely enjoyable for parents/caregivers too. There's a few different play areas for the kids depending on how old they are, so there's a little something for all of them. Car rides to rock climbing walls, slides and nets are just some of the playground features that literally keep them entertained for hours. The massive slide is the most popular attraction, especially for the older ones (I know I've gone down that slide many times!). I'd avoid taking younger children there when its busy- some kids can be a little too rowdy at times. Chipmunks runs a pretty solid (yet a little expensive) cafe to buy food, like nuggets and fries, sandwiches, burgers, you name it. They do kids meals aswell so if you haven't had time to pack lunch from home, it's a handy alternative without leaving the kids unsupervised. I've also been quite a few birthday parties here held in the function rooms. It's an awesome birthday venue and kids will love being in one of the different themed rooms! Definitely worth a look if you're after a venue (side note: they supply snacks for the adults at the parties too!)

Mount Smart Stadium - Moving toward the west stand

Mount Smart Stadium

Penrose, Onehunga

Mount Smart Stadium and the area in its immediate vicinity are particularly unique in the Auckland…read moreregion. Formerly home to the New Zealand leg of the Big Day Out, the Stadium and surrounding grounds provided the perfect location for a multi-stage festival. The segregated areas, namely the stadium, the Bigtop (Boiler Room) and top football fields reflected the large space of the venue. The other users of Mount Smart Stadium are the NRL team, the Warriors. If supporting a team were a roller coaster ride, this would be it. The preferred venue for the team since its inception, Mount Smart has immense historical value with the Warriors. The team have just invested heavily in establishing a new base and gym at the Stadium underneath the newest stand. This stand, akin to the new stand at Eden Park, provides an improved viewing experience than the older stands, with an improved, closer perspective of the action on the field. The famous tunnel linking the No.1 and No.2 fields is symbolic of the team's first entrance onto the ground in 1995 and is occassionally used nowadays. The crowd at a Warriors game is an experience like no other, with the extremely vocal and passionate supporters. Access to the ground is forever improving, with vast onsite parking as well as loads of nearby parking in the surrounding industrial area, as well as the recently renovated Penrose train station. Hell Pizza are regular caterers onsite, with longtime team supporters Lion Red providing the beer. Head along and if you are lucky you will get to experience the (in)famous drummers.
