Beautiful, intimate theater dating 1903, historic, a jewel of the city! The statues outside are beautiful and the actual concert hall inside is nice and elegant. I would love to see an opera here or any show for that matter. The chandelier is a work of art and so is the ceiling. If you visit the area, Teatro Juarez should get on your list!

We came during the 50th International Festival Cervantino (October), and there were tons of Callejoneadas groups outside of the theater! It was such a festive and fun time go visit Guanajuato! We booked one of the Callejoneadas group and met up in front of the theater. It was such a great and fun experience! I would definitely go back and do a tour inside next time. This town is so beautiful and so charming and I would love to come back and spend more time here!

They sell everything from the titular prints to t-shirts, bags, stickers, magnets and postcards, so there's something for every price point if you aren't in the market for a framed piece. Although most are limited, numbered prints so it's totally worth the investment! Prices are very reasonable for the quality. I pretty much loved everything, and the man maintaining the store was really sweet and accommodating despite us taking ages to pick everything out. (Spoke excellent English too, but it's considerate to make some effort in Spanish!) As of this review the company's site is down, but as an FYI they are willing to ship things, so if you have an idea of what you want but aren't in Mexico just email them. A lot of their work is from Jainite Silvestre so you can check her website/Instagram to know what might be available. I also really liked Daniel Hernández's work (from Benito Juárez Autonomous University of Oaxaca School of Fine Arts). Even though it can be kinda repetitive to see all the mummies, they really did a great job with the exhibits and the stories around the history. The museum is clean and well organized. You'll need to Uber there, but it's worth it, and one hour is probably enough time. It's pretty cheap too. Reminded me a bit of the Museo e Cripta dei Cappuccini in Rome.

Wonderful tour of Guanajuato's mummys. In the cemetery…read moreabove, bodies are "burried" stacked into a wall. The coffins are air tight, being perfect conditions for mummification. All of the bodies moisture absorbed in 6 years by their wooden coffins. Not for the weak, this museum displays the stages of death and decay. Some mummies missing skin, some their whole bodies, but most on display are fully intact with hair. The mummies range in age, from infants to mid 80s. Bonus points: Handy cap accessible, very fairly priced, and photography is allowed without flash.

Easy to find, inexpensive to visit, it will take you about an hour and a half to discover more of Rivera's life and work. Open daily 10am-7pm, Sundays - 10am-3pm. Closed Mondays! Lots of personal objects on display, furniture and art created by the artist, in an intimate display since this was the place his was born. Very nice place, not crowded when we visited, so it made it for a pleasant time. I was very happy to be able to check it out and learn more about the great Mexican muralist artist!

In other words, great for those with short attention spans. Until he was 6 Diego Rivera lived in the house in which this museum is situated. Here you can see the rooms he once played in and view a collection of his works though nothing large-scale like the murals for which he really gained renown. In addition to Diego's works (which you're not permitted to photograph) in many art genres, there are a couple of other art installations. On this visit the most interesting of these was the very top floor which featured the work of Guanajuato artists whose work I'd have enjoyed a whole museum being filled with. There's a lot of stairs to navigate here but an elevator if you cannot do so. Definitely worth a stop if you're in Guanajuato and enjoy museums and/or Diego Rivera. And, if they know you speak only English they'll screen a 7-minute film, in English, telling you more about the space and the featured artists.
