Unfortunately, the answer was no because time would not allow it. Did not even go inside. :( They said that our stay in Oslo needs to be longer next time. Apparently, there are a few guided tours to choose from for exploring the National Theater and learning more about its history. I think it was built in 1899. It is a stunning tourist attraction. The outside of this building is simply lovely. The fountain close by is quite wonderful also. Maybe one day we will go inside. Our friends say that you cannot truly appreciate it til you walk in there.

The shows are improv - that is, getting suggestions from the audience to act out great scenes. They run different sets during the week, e.g. on wednesdays "Micetro" is an improv duel between 12 players; on fridays "Murder She Improvised" is a long-form storytelling of a murder mystery - all improvised. There were instruments that…read morethe audience and the musicians just couldn't hear and even the microphones were incredibly low. The band members got really frustrated and so did I and the people I were with. They kept signaling to the sound table and even brought someone on stage, who just made sure to look superior and dismissive. Very bad attitude. And nothing changed. If the place doesn't have the structure to host a concert with a band of that size, then it should not. Having a band come from another country to play a frustrating concert is a huge shame.

In this special and free event we were shown around the various hidden rooms. On the second floor there is a room that has a bar, in this case it was part of the show. And downstairs there is also a hidden little room which was part of the play that looked more like a hangout area. The main theatre is quite small, one of the smallest theatres I have been to. But it has a character with its old decor and feeling to it. The acoustics are quite good. The actors with no microphones were heard very clearly. However the sight was a bit worse. If you have a fairly tall person sitting in front of you, you might have some issues having a clear view of the whole stage. Recommend it to everyone! Especially on events like this.

The surroundings are gorgeous with wide windows and lots of greenery. There is a bar to get drinks and you are allowed to take your champagne into the theater. The black box lets the dancers create an intimate setting and truly tell their story in a meaningfulway. Highly recommend

"Dansens Hus" in the Vulkan area of Oslo hosts one of the most perfectly designed "barlounges" in…read morethe city, especially at night. It´s not a typical bar, as from the looks of it I imagine it was designed to serve as a nice and quiet "waiting lounge" while/in between shows. Of course one doesn´t have to visit the bar only as a show spectator, everyone are equally welcome regardless of plans. The inside offers a perfect ambience for a cosy, laid back and intimate gathering amongst a small group of friends or for couples. At night when the lights are dimmed with almost only live candles as a source of light, some of the seats offer a wonderful view of "Akerselva" (Aker river) that runs through the area. This is a highly enjoyable and quiet alternative to the other establishments that can be rather loud in/around its immediate neighbor "Mathallen" or "Grünerløkka" in general. The bar is also known to host small and intimate live concerts by up and coming artists/amateurs performing their works acoustically, usually free of charge and for everyone there to enjoy. However, it´s important to note that this is not a restaurant/café, only a bar- meaning that there is no serving of food, only beverages. This is in one way what makes it so cosy- and in another way what made me give it only 4 stars out of 5- I must admit it would have been nice with a small menu of for example desserts to go with the drinks. I highly recommend a visit, especially during autumn/winter and early spring when it gets dark outside early in the evening.
