I recently did business with Compusave and I had both positive and negative experiences. I think my…read moreexperience was mostly positive but I will first list my "grievances." 1. The business hours are never stable. The owner might or might not be there and you have to constantly call to make sure he will be there when you are. 2. When I first dropped of my laptop for servicing, it presented a "blue screen" which still allowed you *some* operation. When I got it back, I did not even have a blue screen. It was all black and nothing shows up anymore. 3. When I was able to pick up my computer, my file sheet stated that I had refused further repair to my laptop. This was surprising since the owner himself told me there was nothing more he could do (it will take a clean room with engineers to fix my harddrive), so I don't know what "further repair" he was talking about. 4. At first it sounded as if only my harddrive had a problem. When I picked up my computer, it turned out that there was an issue with my laptop's motherboard. This was never told to me in our many phone conversations prior to me picking up my laptop. Also, the owner changed his mind a couple of times whether my files could be saved or not. It was a confusing process. 5. Twice during phone conversations the owner mixed up my laptop's problems/ information, which I fear might have affected his attempts at repair. 6. During the process, the owner asked me if I had needed a password to access my laptop's desktop interface (you know, the password you have to type in when your computer starts). He told me that since I had had this password, the process of saving files from my harddrive would be more complicated. I consulted with other computer technicians who told me this was not the case. Password or no password, if the harddrive was working I should normally be able to access the files. 7. Finally, and I understand this is really a subjective matter, the owner was standoffish at times. Otherwise, he was a perfectly nice guy. Pros 1. Good price 2. He's obviously been doing this for a long time. 3. He really did try to fix my harddrive. 4. Always picked up the phone, very easy to reach. 5. He was extremely patient with me not being able to pick up my stuff from his shop for some weeks. Lesson: I would probably use his services again but next time I will make sure to create and maintain clearer communication.
