Rice roll with chinese donut
Bill P.

Rice roll with chinese donut: made fresh when you order. donuts are crunchy, roll are soft, silky smooth. there are small pieces of shrimp in there. Extensive menu of dim sum to pick and choose from. staff is helpful in providing recommendations, the wait is never long for the food. one of the best spots in the sunset for takeout with a couple tables for dine in.

6/21/25 Saturday Afternoon Local, no frills take out style dim sum. It's great for a quick pick me up, but don't expect restaurant quality or taste. If you want it at peak freshness, go in the morning. I believe they cook it then and keep it warm throughout the day. My har gow skin was evidently a little soggy. However, it did the job and satisfied my dim sum cravings. Quick and fairly priced. Cash only. All the items are labeled in Chinese and English with pricing.

This lady gets off the bus. I'm right behind her. We are going the same direction. Ends up at TC Pastry together. This place has been here forever, over 30 years? This place reminds me of old style dim sum. They must make 50 different things each day. Towards the end of day around 5:30 they have a sale. 3 items for $3.90. Whatever is in front of that sign. I got egg rolls, beef rice roll, chicken/bittermelon rice rolls. Mochi with red bean. Small black sesame pudding which is made fresh as i grounded sesame. They are the only ones who sells it. Everything tasted good even though it's been sitting all day.

Cash only Line moved fast and they are efficient. The worker was nice to me and my broken Chinese they have some good deals for the different items and all were pretty good. The only downside was some items were served cold so most likely made to be brought home to warm up. The ham sui gok really hit the spot for me as well as the Chinese steamed cake. Solid place if you're in the area!

Came back to TC Pastries to visit after living right around the corner from it 20 years ago! Great to see their store counter larger than before and an expanded menu but with the same local charm and efficient service they've always had. Still cash only too! And their dim sum and related offerings were tasty -- not necessarily at the level of the top (and much more expensive) places in the city -- but that isn't the point or expectation. Great value for what we got and made for a terrific, quick lunch. Look forward to not waiting years to stop by again to enjoy their offerings!

I'm still coming here to see the nice aunties behind the counter--they know me so well! As soon as I walk in, I feel welcomed and overjoyed to see their familiar, friendly faces. They already know my go-to order: zhaliang (rice roll with Chinese donut), smothered in peanut sauce and sweet soy sauce, then perfectly garnished with scallions on top. Absolute perfection! For just $4.50 before tax, it's an unbeatable breakfast steal, especially when paired with a large hot coffee to kickstart my day. Honestly, I just have to keep going to the gym daily to match this lifestyle--hahaha! Beyond my favorite dish, everything they serve here is delicious. Their dim sum is made fresh daily, and you can see the hardworking staff in the back preparing mountains of buns and dumplings for the day's sales. The quality and affordability here are unmatched. The shop has a few tables inside, and it's a dog-friendly spot--I always see nice neighbors stopping by with their cute doggies during their morning walks. Just a heads-up, it's cash only, and parking is street parking. I missed them so much during their long break, and I'm so glad they've reopened! TC Pastry remains my go-to spot, and I'll keep coming back for the amazing food and even better people.

2025 update: Pretty sad TC Pastry in Daly City closed. Now I have to drive further for some deep fried wontons. But today was not that day. I arrived too late and they ran out of fried wontons at 6pm. At least they have the closing time specials, 3 for $3.50. My consolation prize was egg rolls. They were pretty good. I should have gotten more. Good job everyone at TC Pastry.

This has got to be the go to to go dim sum place in town. No seating, everything ordered at the counter. The prices are all labeled and everything is labeled well. The menu has pricing and names on the wall. The older ladies helping you out are so kind. Now onto the dim sum, we ordered a vast variety of dim sum from this place from shiu mai to hagao, cheung fun, deep fried sticky buns, cha siu baos, dai baos and more. Everything was delicious. Most of the items came in the same price configuration, 3 or 4 items for a set price around $3.50 or $4.20. All the dim sum was pretty good for a to go place. I would say even comparable to sit down restaurant ones. The quality was good and the flavor was tasty. Every time I come into town I would definitely come here.

I popped in to get a couple of Chinese tamales. Their display case only had the red bean ones. I asked the clerk for peanut one and she had them in the back warming. It was almost $14.60 for 3 of them. Took them home to eat and was surprised they were pretty good, more rice than filling and the rice was a tad too gummy, sticky. There was one piece of lop cheung or sausage, one piece of fatty pork, I only recall a couple of peanuts. It was tasty but not that big.

Can't believe this spot is still here decades later! It's cash only and usually freshest in the morning / early afternoon - but very solid affordable dim sum!! Would recommend the bbq cha siu bao and ham sui gok for sure

Sally C.

This definitely hits the spot when you're in a mood for dim sum but don't want to spend too much money. The prices are really fair for what you're getting. The line was kinda long but it does goes by pretty quick. No parking lot so you would need to look for parking around the area. Luckily this area people are coming and going so parking isn't too bad. I was able to try a lot of the classics! The rice noodles were silky, chow fun was plain but very filling. The siu mai's texture wasn't great. Definitely can skip on that. The taro balls and turnovers were amazing!! The turnip cake was also pretty good. Go give this a try! Also note, the restaurant have some seating inside but definitely very limited.

Hot Spicy Wonton (5 for $2.85)
Lisa Z.

Was in the area for lunch and stopped by here again for their Hot Spicy Wontons. 5 for $2.85 is a pretty good deal. The ladies there today were nice. Customer service and experience was good. Didn't feel rushed like last time so that's why I'm updating my review. 05.12.2024 | Sunday @2:30pm

Turnip Cake that had jello consistency
Suki L.

Very disappointing. The preserved duck & shredded pork porridge tasted like it was left overnight. It has no flavor except for the duck. I've never had porridge that tasted this bad. I've never seen turnip cake like jello consistency. There's absolutely NO turnips in it, I feel like I was eating a mochi. The potsticker was cold and not warm like my other orders. The bbq turnover was just alright. And to top it off, the black sesame dessert spilled all over bag. No receipt was offered, so who knows if I got overcharged. For 5 items the total was $25.02.

Wonton soup ($7.06 after tax). Comes with 8 wontons

When is the Daly City location reopening?

Do they allow you to mix and match the dim sum pieces that are the same price when the items are listed as 3 for something$? Thanks!

I think you can mix & match as long as the items r the same price

The staff were friendly and super prompt about clearing empty plates and refilling our tea whenever we signaled it was done, which is always great as the dishes just get on coming! We ordered a bunch of dishes to share, and several really stood out. The spicy tendon was fantastic, shredded paper thin and swimming in a classic spicy sauce. The spicy lamb dumplings were another highlight, with an incredibly thin wrapper and a super flavorful and not gamey at all lamb filling. I also loved the stir fried rice cakes, which were sliced thin enough to avoid that overly chewy texture, and the stir fried noodles Shanghai style were classic and simple in the best way, with big chunks of cabbage and meat and just executed really (the chefs clearly have some serious wok skills!). Not everything we ordered was an absolute knockout as the vegetable dishes could use a bit more flavor and seasoning, but everything overall was good, and the portions across the board were very generous. The desserts were a last-minute decision and I am so glad we went for them. The lava custard buns were fluffy and amazing, with a molten salted egg custard inside, and the sesame balls had a satisfyingly crispy exterior that gave way to a perfectly chewy interior and sweet red bean filling. The value here is also excellent. We left absolutely stuffed and spent around $30 per person, which felt like a great deal for how much food we got and how much we enjoyed it. Highly recommend!

Modern decoration with touch of traditional Chinese accents. The food was 4 stars out of 5. -5 stars for presentation. -3.5 stars for the taste. The presentation is fancy and luxurious. We ordered both the scallops and abalone shui mai. The abalone is okay but the scallops ones are way better. We also ordered the lotus leaf with abalone. While it looks so fancy, the rice is really wet but not binding together. The flavor is lacking as well. The best dish was the Iberico cha siu (bbq pork). It was so tender and flavorful. All of their food would looks really good on IG but I personally prefer my food have wonderful taste than wonderful photos. The service was good overall but it is a little slow given how fancy the food looks like. Empty plates were not removed until requested or when new plates have nowhere to place. There is a parking structure next to the tea house but it gets challenging during the weekend. I would rather take ferry and grab a Lyft next time. Will I be coming back? I walked into the restaurant about 45 minutes before closing time at 9:30 PM and several other diners came in after I was seated. The unsettled weather made the people hungry for dumplings. Bao is warm and woody and serene on the inside, a great counterpoint to the bustle of Valencia at every hour. Upon entering there is a large window looking on to the kitchen prep area where culinary experts are often at work constructing the food diners later enjoy on their plates. Tonight a couple of wizards were in the process of making chicken potstickers. Even being vegetarian, just seeing how the dumplings and other items are made is like seeing secrets being shared. I love it and it sets the vibe for the restaurant. My order consisted of the steamed vegetarian buns and sautéed string beans. The buns come out beautifully presented and taste even better: the bun itself is just slightly sweet and that sweetness adds an amazing dimension to the chopped fresh vegetables inside. Can't tell you what any of these veggies are individually and I don't care, they are so good. The spare ribs had a really nice savory flavor from the sauce. The egg tarts were okay. I need to note that these bags are leftovers from the day, so they're not as fresh.
