This is one of those places that relies on returning customers and word-of-mouth, which is why they're one of those local suppliers that have a real focus on customer service (see my Gibson's Butchers and Direct Furniture reviews). For being a small independent retailer, they seem to be able to keep their prices quite reasonable. I was just in to get a mat, but they have carousels of carpet samples as well as different types of wooden flooring on display, and they have another area for floor and wall tiles. The staff were very friendly - down to earth but professional.

Even though the installation was quick the bedroom had things on the floor and they put the carpet down over the top, bad job and unfinished. Within 2 days this company managed to let me down 4 times, I tried to call but the company closed at 5pm.

Oh dear, oh dear. Where did it all go wrong?…read more My husband and I went up on a Saturday morning to pick out some floors for our living room. I had been up the week previous and dealt with a pleasant man, picked out our floors and gotten a great quote. I was pretty happy until I tried to purchase the floors themselves. Unfortunately I had left my quote at home as we were rushing to get there before they closed at 1pm on a Saturday. We arrived, queued for about 10mins before being told we needed to queue at a different counter to make our purchase. We went to the trade counter and proceeded to queue for another solid 10 mins until we were finally seen. My complaint was not regarding the wait time at all, it was regarding the people who served us. The man was very cryptic about the information he needed from me to pull up my quotation. He was not clear at all and after about five minutes of not getting any kind of an answer from him about what he needed from me, I apologised for not having my quotation and decided to go back to the front desk to obtain a second quotation. When we got back to the front desk, you could tell the man behind the counter was not interested in anything as it was 12:50 and nearly closing time. Instead of giving my business to a company who clearly has no interest in keeping their customers happy, I've decided to walk away and work with a company who does want my business. In this day and age, no one has very much money to spend, and a new floor is quite a few euros. I expected much better service given these conditions.

You can have all the fancy bells and whistles you like, but if there's no one there to speak with you about your potentially large cashdollamoney investment, then why should you spend the fruits of your hard graft there? There was a salesman out the front dealing with a customer when we entered the shop. Once his customer left, he retreated out the back. We must have been standing out the front for a good 15 minutes (whilst other lonely and unloved customers also came and went). All this time, there was not one person on the floor, yet I could see several staff out the back having a chat. If you don't want my cash, that's cool dude. I shall take it elsewhere!

Now you may well laugh, but as someone who has done ALOT of renovations and DIY, I can honestly tell you the vast majority of places quite frankly know fanny all about the product they are selling. Get the customer in, sell them stuff they may or may not need and ship em out ASAP, that usually is the motto of some of the larger home depot style chains. Here at GFS, the guy actually KNOWS about floors, he can work out how much you need to damn near perfect quantity, and will not bullshit you into buying a bunch of crap you don't need. A fantastic, well laid out showroom with plenty of car parking, sections of floor along every wall so you don't have to decide after only looking at a measly strip the width of your finger. The carpet is great and was installed and fitted to a really high standard. A couple of months later I decided to have my hallway and living room re floored with a wooden floor, again I went to Martin Phillips and the service was second to none, wouldn't go anywhere else!
