I would NOT recommend this place if you want any kind of communication. Did we get our taxes filed? Yes, at the very last minute but we did so I'll give them a star for at least getting that done. But we still had some questions with upcoming payments and documents and they "seemed" eager to help. However, after we paid the fee for the tax filing, they completely ghosted us. I've sent them questions with documents three time asking them to respond and follow up and have gotten nothing. If you have too many clients and are too busy, at the very least respond and tell us, it takes less than a minute. Don't just repeatedly ignore our emails when you're the ones that offered to be helpful. Very unprofessional. read more

I can't believe how they got these positive reviews. They were extremely responsive and attentive until we started working with them. After we did the contract, they stopped responding to my emails. We set up our account in November 2022 but our accountant didn't work on our account until February. They kept postponing working on our books for a solid 3 months. And when they finally did the journal entries, most were wrong! I switched to another company after that and my new accountant deleted almost all the journal entries they did. read more

There is no way to truly do justice to how amazing Tony Navarro and his entire Tax Plus team are in a simple review, but I'll try. I had a rather compliated situation and Tony has been the biggest blessing, by way of two shady and very expensive attornies and another shady accountant. He is honest, crazy smart and informed AND an optimist with the ability to instill a sense of calm in all his clients (I've referred a handful of friends to him who all share the same sentiments). Everyone who has assisted me at Tax Plus, from his assistant Brenda to the maravelous Svestlana (another enrolled agent and tax preparer) have been thorough, kind, professional and at the top of their game. If you have never heard of an enrolled agent you're not alone. But trust me on this, you don't want your ordinary CPA helping you with your taxes, you want and NEED an enrolled agent. The IRS can feel very intimidating, the rules are confusing and mistakes can be costly, but not with Tax Plus on your team. My gratitude to Tony and Tax Plus is beyond measure. read more

Unfortunately when I first was with them, they were on top of their game and really gave me the attention I needed; Nora and Leslie was great with handling some past IRS issues. But when Larry split from TaxPlus I then was caught in a battle between both of them fighting over who gets what client and it was unprofessional on both sides, so I decided to choose None of the Above. They then continued to bill me as if nothing happened, even when I had barely any activity going on, and when I confronted them on the matter, they reversed the work they did and demand payment. So yeah, I would advise against using them for future book keeping stuff; I wish Nora and Leslie had their own business because I would still hire them for my other IRS drama. read more

Based on the ratio of positive reviews to negative reviews, it's possible that Tony and his employees are merely above their operating capacity. I also found Tony to have offered one of the lowest prices for a simple married-filing-jointly return for my wife and I. It's possible it was so low because of some discount I was given due to the fact that my mother has been their customer for many, many years, but I can't confirm that. However, I would have rather paid more money to ensure the work was done properly and respectfully. If you want to give Tony and his crew a go, keep the following issues in mind so you can (hopefully) preemptively avoid them. - Tony and his employees have "secure links" embedded in their email signatures. The idea is that you use that link to securely upload your documents rather than just adding them as email attachments. The success rate on these links was about 10% for me, meaning that 90% of the time I needed to securely upload something, I would need to request _at least_ one re-send of the link before it was working. And you're not guaranteed a same-day response just to get a working link. - The "secure links" service used does not allow you to see past uploads. I am concerned that this process has some fundamental flaw to it, because three documents I uploaded were mysteriously missing and needed to be re-uploaded (which was a pain, given the above issue). Either Tony's employees misplaced my documents when they retrieved them or the service he uses didn't upload them and didn't relate an error message to me. Either way, not professional and a waste of time. - Response times are atrocious. I uploaded all of my main documents (W-2s and such) on February 24th, and then uploaded a single health coverage document and itemized deduction form on March 6th. No communication from anyone about anything, and on March 23rd I asked for a status update. This should NOT take a month to complete a simple return, and certainly not one filled with radio silence. I received a response back on March 26th saying that our return was pushed back substantially (still not being worked on). It's not until March 29th that I'm then told our W-2s are missing and need to be uploaded again. It's not until April 2nd that we start getting our returns submitted; that's almost 40 days between submission of our main documents and an actual return being submitted. Unacceptable not matter how you look at that. - The associate in charge of our return (Svetlana) put my wife's maiden name on the forms, despite the fact that I had explicitly stated my wife's current and correct name in previous correspondence. The reasoning she gave was that she used the name on my wife's W-2. True, her W-2 had her maiden name, but my previous name was on my W-2 as well, and yet my current and correct name ended up on the return. If we were to base names purely off the W-2 then mine would have been incorrect as well. Clearly this is an instance where the associate messed up but didn't really want to take responsibility. Also, the associate refused, multiple times, to prepare an amendment form to change my wife's name after-the-fact. It did not seem like the kind of thing that should have needed to be fought for. - After having my own tax return messed up, my mother confided in me that whenever someone other than Tony is handling her tax return, there is always something done incorrectly. So between my mother and I, it seems like if Tony isn't handling your return personally then the chance of error is extremely high, if not guaranteed. - For some reason, more than 50% of the communication about our filing was sent to my mother instead of me and my wife. Highly unprofessional and, quite simply, rude. Even if my mother has been a customer for longer and referred me to Tony and his team, my wife and I are the paying customer for this return and the main point-of-contact. There's also a bunch of privacy concerns over what they did. But we were left out of most communications, so even though they could have been polite to us and at least included us in their emails, they deemed it unnecessary and used my mother as their primary means of communication, who then needed to forward their emails to me. There's no way I can personally recommend TaxPlus. The experience was so awful and handled so poorly at every step of the way that my wife and I have resolved to go back to TurboTax. We used them for many years without any issues, usually finishing our returns in a day or two, not 40 days. Clearly we just need to go back to what works. read more

After the state put liens and levies against me I decided to head into taxplus per a colleagues recommendation. I met with Tony and he took all of my receipts, bank statements and corporate records and confidently went to work. A few months later I was all caught up and my liability was nowhere what I had imagined. I've never felt compelled to write a review before, and I'm usually not so dramatic, but my experience with Tony was among the worst service I've ever received. I'm genuinely surprised that there are so many positive reviews here (which was the reason I went to them in the first place). tl;dr for my long, boring story about taxes: Tony took a multi-month vacation with zero warning in the middle of my urgent tax situation without passing the case along to someone else, which resulted in extra fees from the IRS. TaxPlus was consistently extremely disorganized, slow, and terrible at communication, and required persistent nagging to get anything done. The issues that I came to TaxPlus with remain unresolved, and they ceased all communication with me after I paid them, leaving me to resolve followup from the IRS and FTB on my own. I feel completely scammed out of the $2000 I spent there. I have a small business, and for the last few years I foolishly tried to handle my tax returns myself using TurboTax, which turned into a mess, and my S-Corp ended up in bad standing with the FTB. So I decided to finally get help from a professional. Things started off fine after contacting TaxPlus -- I emailed them on April 15th and had a consultation meeting a week or two later. Documents were requested and sent over, and authorization forms were signed. Got a status update on May 1st and was asked to hold on while they worked on it. I emailed them a week later to ask if there was anything I needed to do on my end, and I received no response until the 19th, when Tony emailed me to tell me he was leaving on vacation until early / mid July (!) I was concerned about the lengthy delay since the notices I had received from the FTB and IRS seemed quite urgent, so I replied, asking whether there would be any additional penalties or other issues, CCing Svetlana (who had also been involved in all of my email correspondence with Tony). No response whatsoever from either of them. Two months pass with no response, and I finally followed up on July 19th to ask what was going on. I get a response from Tony telling me he'll work on it and should be able to meet the following week. More than a week passes with no communication, and on July 28th, sure enough, I receive an IRS notice with an extra $220 of fees. I email the notice to Tony, which gets him to respond, and he tells me he will call me at 3pm. I'm sitting around, waiting for a call at 3, which comes and goes until I get an email at 3:30 asking me to call _him_ instead. When I call the number he gave me, somebody else picks up and tells me that he's not in the office. Eventually I manage to get connected to him and arrange another meeting for August 8th. I get to the meeting, and once it starts, it's clear that Tony has not prepared at all. It's like he's starting from scratch as he reviews everything -- he goes over the same things that we went over in our initial meeting and asks me for information that I've already given him. I end up sitting there uncomfortably for something like two hours as he slowly makes his way through each tax return. He occasionally asks me questions, which I don't always have answers to on the spot. Why would we have a meeting like this instead of him doing this work on his own time and compiling a list of questions for me to answer via email so I have the time to answer them properly and don't have to sit in his office for hours? The meeting finally ends, and it's supposedly all done. I pay them, and I'm told to follow up with any correspondence that I receive. I don't receive anything until September 6th, when a neighbor passes along a refund I received from the FTB -- it turns out my apartment number was entered incorrectly on my amended returns. I emailed Tony to let him know, and he gets my address updated with the IRS, but I have to do it myself with the FTB. I have no idea how much correspondence I lost in the mean time. On October 9th, I receive a notice about a balance due, and I try to run it by Tony but receive no response, so I just go ahead and pay it. Finally, on October 23rd, I receive another notice, which is about some inscrutable issue with a form from one of the returns. Again I email Tony and receive no response, but this time I don't know what to do. I follow up on November 10th with no response yet again. The deadline for responding to the notice was coming up, so I just attempted to do it myself. The IRS responded, saying they needed more time to review the form. No idea if I did it properly or not -- we'll see I guess! read more

I've been Tony's client for five tax seasons. I'm so happy to have a "tax guy" like Tony who I really trust, remembers me every year, and is available to answer my questions throughout the year. Not only is Tony a great tax guy, I've learned a lot from him too! Whether you always want a refund if possible (like me) or want to do the financially smart thing and come close to $0 when your taxes are said and done, Tony will help you plan to hit your goal with his expertise. After a couple years working with Tony, I've learned to keep my receipts and tax forms pretty organized and disciplined over the years. Tony helps me sort through my different buckets (taxed income, donations, stock stuff, etc.) and helps make sure we don't miss any deductions. Additionally, Tony is a great guy to ask for general financial advice. I really love having someone that I can call to get an opinion on what to do with distributions, donations, and anything else throughout the year. He can guide you through the waters of going from filing single to filing married and help small businesses with their taxes as well. If you're looking for a tax professional who can be your guy every year, look no further than Tony. REVISED (added 10/2017): When I call during their slow or off season times -- they seem to only work MON - WED (limited hours) so keep that in mind if you need more attention & immediate answers...they aren't the quickest. At this point, I am rethinking whether they are good enough for our small business and will explore other tax professionals who are more attentive, transparent and responsive (without me poking them). == EDITED Q4 2017: Basically, I have to hound them to call me back, give me attention and I have to watch them like a dog to get any benefit from them. They failed to advise our LLC business to pre-pay taxes for 2017 and now we are likely to get dinged for that. In addition, when they say they are going to do something -- there's a failure to follow up 50% of the time -- which is too high of a failure rate for me. Also -- I've called WED - FRI to reach Tony and he is out of the office; then fails to call me back. FRUSTRATING! In NOV, I have tried reaching another member of the staff, left a voicemail, sent 2 emails and even asked Tony to follow up and yet they have not emailed back; which is insane. Now, I am dealing with Tony -- but he says he can't do anything because the other team member is out of the office (vacation) and yet he misquoted the facts of my file (they are not communicating properly). The lack of professionalism, trust and just the basic business practice of following up or attention to detail is awesome. I no longer recommend this business. While they come off nice and friendly, Tony runs his business too lax to the point where there's no follow up, or accountability (other than to smile and be nice). It's super frustrating when you have business to be taken care of and when it requires swift, decisive action. If you're just a basic person with no small business -- then this is probably fine (since you will require no effort / work). We are a first year small business and their lack of support, attention to detail, and lack of availability it too tough for a small business owner. I am frustrated to say the least. :( . I wish I could say I had a better experience but I just can't recommend them. JAN 2018 UPDATE After telling them the areas that needed improvement, and they tried a little bit (but I doubt they were committed)... just now received an email where they are refusing to work with us: "After careful evaluation we feel we no longer are a good fit and would like to end all services with you effective immediately." So ends this chapter of working with Taxplus. I also want to add, that from the time I updated this review, complained about the areas that were lacking, Tony brought up this review (asking me to remove it) quite often. It was as if he cared more about what this review said than ACTUALLY PROVIDING ME WITH QUALITY SERVICE. Very upsetting. Stay away from them -- especially small business owners. read more
