It was some meat and some onions, not particularly well seasoned either. The waiter was very strange when I pronounced the name of the restaurant wrong, he corrected me like I had insulted him and then walked off. Sorry if I offended you...?

After waiting five minutes before being recognized, we ordered all at once and received our food quickly. The E21.50 Fischteller contained just one small whitefish (dorado), three calamaris, and one butterfly shrimp. It was a very underwhelming portion. The E23.80 warm-kalt appetizer platter was also disappointing. It contained 3 dips, cheese-stuffed roasted red pepper, fried feta, fried zucchini, spanicoppita, and couscous salad. While the portion size was fine and the items all good, we thought it a lame assortment. Not one meat/fish sample in sight. Might I suggest that the selection be spelled out, so we know what we're getting. Our food gripes would be substantially mitigated if the food were outstanding or original but really, the quality, flavor, and presentation were average. Add to that, no bread came for the dips. We had to ask twice and then received sliced French-style bread, not the pita bread one would expect (and really, that is required for the appetizer platter). And we never received the water we asked for. Sadly, the tone was set when my .5L beer came out 1cm too low--a rare and unfortunate oversight. When it came time for me to round a 56.90 bill to 57 Euros, the server didn't thank us, chuckled, muttered something and walked off. That we were well-dressed, polite, sat inside, ordered and ate quickly, and spoke exclusively in German means we did nothing to deserve what ended as an unpleasant experience. I really hope that our American accents and our not being one of the "sceney" people outside did not tempt the staff away from giving us a sub-standard experience. It's a thought that may not be founded in anything but experience and intuition. However, I can't help but come away with a bad feeling about this place.

Don't be deceived by the sign on the building ("Hirsch Weinstube") and no sign with the restaurant 's name, you are in the right place (as the menu by the door will attest). There are several different rooms within, so while it is much bigger than I had expected, it didn't feel too large once you are seated. Service was typical, but with the nice touch of rather than asking loudly whether I wanted an English menu, they quietly just gave me one (I clearly can't pass for German yet). My lamb shank in tomato sauce with pearl onions and roasted potato slices was fantastic. The lamb was perfectly cooked so that it was fork tender but not mushy, and the pearl onions and tomato sauce with it were delicious. The roasted potato slices were also nice done, if somewhat plain with just some salt and pepper for seasoning. With the pearl onions or lamb though, they gave a nice little crunch. While the prices were perfectly reasonable (€20 for an entree and beverage), the atmosphere is a little more upscale (plenty of jeans, but all with button down shirts or sweaters). Overall a great combination of reasonable prices, good food, and a slightly nicer atmosphere makes this a great choice for a date night, treating guests, or just grabbing a nice meal when you don't feel like cooking.
