Tate Modern is my favorite museum in London, so I am a frequent guest at the espresso bar. Located on the third floor of the Natalie Bell building, the sweeping views are absolutely jaw-dropping. The coffee, not so much. Go here for two reasons: the location and the view.
After a long day of admiring the Tate's massive collection of modern art, I needed to rest my feet and get a caffeine fix. I headed up to the espresso bar (open daily from 10 am until 6 pm). I grabbed a high-top table with a view and settled in while my hubby went to get us some coffee.
The espresso bar has a small selection of hot and cold drinks, tea, and a few snacks. They exclusively serve Arabica coffee that's roasted on the grounds and ethically sourced. So you can feel good about your cup of espresso!
We ordered two double macchiatos (3 pounds each). They were made quickly, served piping hot, and in proper ceramic cups with saucers (this is very important to me - I hate paper cups)! The espresso was good, but had more of a fruit-forward flavor that isn't my favorite. I found it to be a tad bit bitter, but there was a nice crema and mouthfeel to the espresso. I wouldn't go out of my way to get espresso here, but it's great if you are already at the museum.
Oh! And make sure you clean up after yourself when you're done. It totally annoyed me to see so many visitors just leaving their empty cups and trash on the coveted tables! Be nice to others! read more
