This is a great addition to the Mekong Plaza offering Taiwanese style Hot Pots. Now I don't have to visit California to get my individual hot pot craving! This is my second visit and both times have been delightful. This is a restaurant enjoyed best while dining in because it's fresh and boiling hot. They offer 12 different soup broths and each pot includes a variety of meats, seafood and vegetables. If you like boba or milk tea beverages they also offer plenty here. I had enough clear noodle ao I didn't need to order more. Came by on a Saturday afternoon a little after 12 and it was a full house but we were the only ones waiting for a table - probably only waited 5-10 minutes! Husband ordered the Taiwanese pot and he really enjoyed it. It's a larger size than the other pots so he had leftovers which he was happy about! There were unique toppings like stinky tofu, blood rice cake, pig intestines, and other TW type foods. I got curry and it was OK - the toppings were pretty ordinary so I regret not choosing a flavor with more unique toppings I wouldn't normally cook with. The curry flavor was also just OK. I finished the whole thing and was constantly surprised with all the different ingredients (cuttlefish, tendon, clam, pork blood rice cake, etc.). This place is the cats meowwwww in my book. Ugh, I just can't get enough of this place. Literally the first place I dine at when I land, the last place I dine at on my way to the airport. Taiwanese hot pot is a staple in my family's holiday meals. I grew up eating hot pot, not the "cheese or chocolate fondue kind" but the actual Taiwanese hot pot kind. In my family, we boil a large pot of broth in the center of the table, and have a table full of vegetables, meats, sauces, drinks, etc. and we all just cook our food, eat, drink, bond and be merry. To find restaurants that now do this is always a win-win in my book, and here it is. Taiwanese Hot Pot in Mesa (they also have another location) at a place called Tasty Pot; and tasty it is, indeed! I opted for the Taiwanese Spicy hot pot with extra beef tendon and mustard greens. Oh, and a side of stinky tofu. It's the rotten cheese of Taiwan...but seriously. People who try it and cannot stand the smell, but will eat a hunk of parmesan cheese weird me out. Like one is fermented soybean, the other is fermented milk. Anywho, off my soapbox, if ya don't like it then more for me! But it's, quite literally, a piece of fermented tofu that is rich in flavor, much like a bold slice of cheese. Light sauce over the top and some cilantro make this side dish a delicacy, and a must in my book. The other hot pot we got was the standard beef hot pot, which they put the "shacha" bbq sauce into the actual broth. In my family, we put our own shacha on the side, and dip our food into our own shacha sauce bowl. I like mine with tons of hotsauce, where as my mom may want more soy sauce and less spicy. So we make our own. Here they put the shacha into the broth, which I actually like and will do next time we have a gathering at my parents house. Both were so good. We've also had the kimchi hot pot (just so so) and the seafood (super delicious)! If you're unfamiliar, I suggest going w/ someone that has had it before. This is such a fun experience. It's super cool to get your meal In a hot pot of delicious broth that cooks very quickly at the table for you and gives such an authentic feel and taste. It's so fun to have all of them exotic ingredients in the pot where each bite is a fun surprise of different delicious ingredients. Some of our favorite ingredients were the quail eggs, squid, black rice cake patties, fish sticks and crab legs. This was our second time coming and we enjoyed both times. Please note Sichuan means spicy even if you don't like spicy the mild version comes with 4 or 5 chili peppers in it. I let them know my dish was spicy so they brought out some additional broth for me to add to make the dish slightly less spicy. Number 8 was our favorite as a unanimous decision. On the food: 4.5/5 stars - Beef hot pot was delicious and filling. Solid portion of meat to go with the toppings - vermicelli, fish balls, fried tofu, greens 4/5 stars - Pork hot pot was tasty too with same toppings, just did not seem as flavorful as the beef 3/5 stars - Lamb has a bit of that "gamey" flavor that overpowered the broth and toppings, rather than being complementary On safety: All staff members wore masks and there was hand sanitizer available. They do have indoor seating and they spaced the tables out ~6 feet. It is a fairly small restaurant so it looked too packed for my own comfort (given people eating without masks on) which is why I ordered it to go. The beef and thai hot pot are my favorites! The food is very good and a large pot is the perfect sharing size for two. I was also surprised with how good the milk tea is! I got the jasmine creme with grass jelly and it was the perfect sweet beverage to round out my meal. Wait times are okay, I usually go at a busier hour and it takes longer to get seated but that is to be expected. My only issues with Tasty Pot are how expensive the additions are. It should not be $4 to add napa cabbage. These add ons also really add up. If you get extra meat, and a few add ons, your $20 pot could turn into $40 easily, so watch out. read more

I loved this place. I have never really had anything like it so it was a great new experience. I thought the broth had a really developed taste like it had been cooking all night. I ordered a spicy pot and was able to ask them to tone it down so it was not too crazy spicy. It was perfect. The hot pot itself was quite full of different meats but we also ordered additional side meats like beef tendons, stuffed fishballs and intestines to enhance our experience. I have passed Tasty Pot a few times when I visited OC but never stopped inside to try it. I guess the endless restaurant selections make it even a tougher decision where to dine. This is the first Tasty Pot in the valley. We waited about 25 minutes for two of us. It was packed with people inside and outside. Make sure to your name on the clip board for a table. We weren't too hungry so decided to share the mild beef hot soup. My friend couldn't tolerate the mild spicy level. We had to order another beef hot soup with no spice. You can definitely taste the loaded sodium even at the mild spicy level vs just with a clear broth. We added the vermicelli for $1.95. It was a bite size. We both tried their A-Cha. I had the Hokkaido miik tea. I pretty much inhaled my tea. I was so thirsty. It wasn't premium tea quality. The service was friendly and attentive. They checked on us when our broth was getting low. It gets really warm when the restaurant was packed with people and boiling hot soups all around. We still wonder if the crowd level would be the same when summer comes. Hubby tried Tasty Pot in the Bay Area and was excited to see they opened one here in AZ. Naturally we had to try it to compare it. Hubby said the menu and the food was exactly the same. I tried their beef hotpot and chose mild spice level. Warning, mild still has lot of spice. Hubby ordered the Sichuan hotpot with medium spice level. His was very spicy. Highly suggest leveling down or two on spice when ordering. Both dishes had lot of fish cakes, seafood, veggies and noodles. However, everything tasted the same. The only difference I noticed between the beef and the fish cake was the texture. We didn't need to use any dipping sauce either because the pot was already seasoned. Service was good; staff is full of young teens (some didn't seem to know what they were doing though). If you're in a lazy mood and want the hotpot all set up for you, then this place is it. However, if you want the traditional hotpot experience, I'd recommend go elsewhere. read more

INDIVIDUAL HOT POT HEAVEN! I just had to stop by after I was walking past and saw people inside eating some steaming hot soup! When you sit down, you scan a QR code that takes you to an ordering screen. Your food then arrives, and you do pay manually at the end, not on your phone. But about the food, I got the #7 Kimchi Dumpling hot pot. It only had a couple of dumplings! I wish it had more. There was a large variety of various ingredients inside. The meat on top was just okay. I wish it came with raw meat which would then cook in the broth. I also wish there was a sauce bar, like the AYCE hot pot places have! This definitely needed some more flavor, the soup base was just slightly kimchi flavored. There are a few sauces on the table, but not a big variety. The dishes are definitely large enough to share between two people, just order extra rice/noodles and maybe extra meat. All in all, it was pretty good but not my favorite. Come try it out! read more

I have a genetic blood clotting issue where I have to avoid foods and medicines that are high in estrogen - I cannot even take birth control pills. This means soy, and thus tofu, are out. If I have soy sauce or small amounts in a sauce or baked item, it won't kill me, but I have to be super vigilant to not eat soy products for the rest of the day to err on the side of caution. A blood clot could be deadly and I'd have little to no warning that I had one. Today, on 1/19/20 I ordered the kimchi spicy dumpling soup with no tofu and no tofu skin. This is noted on my receipt. I fished out multiple chunks of tofu and tofu skin (as pictured.) What if someone who couldn't have soy thought it was simply a rice or fish cake? What if they had a serious allergy that presented visibily, unlike my health issue? Will the staff care if some goes into anaphylaxis or dies? No tofu means NO TOFU. Disregarding a customer's request shows a serious lack of attention to detail or concern for their customers. read more

I realized this is one of the original chain that is available in North Cal. The price was fairly in expensive. For $13.99, you get the smaller hot pots. For $16.99, it was bigger. I didn't order the $18.99 but I assume that the price is similar to the 16.99 ones The milky cream cheese one has a lot of frozen meat but the Tom Yum Thai hot pot has a lot of seafood. Both of which are very delicious and flavorful. The broth is constantly refilled if needed. But the new broth isn't flavored so be careful. Individual hot pot here! Came here on a Friday night and signed up at 6:15pm with about 10 groups ahead of us. We waited about 30 minutes for a group of six so it wasn't too too bad of a wait. We already looked at the menu ahead of time so we won't waste precious eating time! We ordered the lamb, milk, stinky tofu, Thai and seafood lobster hot pots all nicely individual boiled. You can choose the amount of spiciness with a range of none to flaming hot. All of us chose no spicy! Then you can either choose rice or vermicelli noodle. We all chose the noodle option. You can pay an additional fee of $1.25 for instant noodles. Each pot came out smelling so delicious. I personally chose the stinky tofu which was a couple pieces of thick firm mildly stinky tofu, pork insides, pork meat, fish balls, pigs blood, quail eggs (ehh), clams, NAPA cabbage, tomatoes, inoki mushrooms and more. I loves the flavor of the broth. They will come fill up the broth if you're running low. You have an option to add some sauces like the garlic sauce, soy sauce and vinegar. Last night 2 friends and I decided to check this place out. We walked in were seated immediately and the whole room is beautiful black and red decor, the pots being carried around smelled amazing and they were big, heavy and gold. You order off a QR code at the table I got a winter melon drink with lemon which tastes like fresh Christmas in a cup, it was absolutely refreshing and delicious I couldn't believe it. I also ordered the Thai seafood soup which I have to say was hands down some of the best broth I have ever tasted. Strong notes of lemongrass and just so comforting to sip on and enjoy. The variety of things in the bowl were also so tasty! Fish cake, shrimp, mussels, clams, mushrooms, cabbage, crab and thin sliced meat. I added udon noodles and sausage and boy was I satisfied! My brother was raving about this place about a week ago, I was pretty jealous him and my dad went without us girls. I made some time this week to go while my son was in school, not knowing how long the wait and service would be, I took a chance. At first glance, I thought I knew what I wanted off the menu, the Milky Cheese broth and Thai Broth caught my eye. As I reread everything, I realized each broth had its own protein, veggies and what not that comes along with it. Here I am wanting this type of broth but with another type of protein and veggies. Decisions, decisions. I decided to go with the Thai Broth at a Mild, what the heck, go BIG or go home. (that dish only comes in the larger size) They weren't too too busy, but apparently their system crashed at one point so it took longer than expected for my food to come out, but I was still able to eat, chat and enjoy within a 2 hour time frame. What I liked about my choice was the fact that every bite had something new in it, it was like a treasure chest of surprises. Lol the broth was very flavorful too. Mine had a few pieces of clam, baby octopus, mussel, fish, two shrimps, a fish ball and a meatball l, two types of mushrooms, a baby crab, along with vermicelli noodles and Napa. I also ordered an Add On of Fish Roe Balls. I was stuffed by the end of it, although I'm not sure if was also due to the water and sweet green tea as well as the Tiger Milk tea I got with my meal... But I throughly enjoyed the place. Service was pretty good too! Only down fall I would say is the price is a bit much for what it is and how much protein is actually in those hot pots. They have 12 different soup bases or styles which already come with noodles, rice, and other proteins and veggies. You can choose your spice level, although we got medium it definitely built up. To cool off you can get an "A Cha" tea. The tiger is quite the photogenic drink and also very sweet. The green tea with creama has a satisfying cheese foam at the top.
