Highly recommend this zoo for family or just a getaway for partners. My partner and I had a last minute decision to go to the zoo but didn't want to go to Sydney so we started looking and found the zoofari lodge. I called up and was met with great customer service. The lady was extremely helpful and gave us a great deal for a one night stay. It's also included 2 day pass to the zoo and private tours. The lodge was great, nice and clean, aircon and a great bathroom. The itinerary was on the bed for when the private tours were and all the meals. At 6 pm there was dinner served which to me was a bit of a weird way to serve dinner. You don't chose your own seat you are pretty much forced to interact with everyone else staying there. The prices for the wine is through the roof and you can't buy it per glass it has to be per bottle. The only down fall from lack of information was you need to bring your own snacks and drinks as that is not provided unless you want to take out from the mini bar in the roof and they charge yet again a lot of money for that. Apart from those little things the private tours were amazing and being able to sit on your balcony watch the animals, get to feed them and see behind the scenes and then get to drive through the zoo as well. Overall amazing and would go back again without a doubt. Loved it so much and worth every cent. read more

Great place to go with the kids. We took a cart for the morning but you can drive around in your car, just be ready to hop in and out. The bikes looked like a great option as well. Lots of animals that you can experience up close. Take your own picnic and there are lots of spots to stop for a rest. There is also a great playground and a mini water park for the kids. Highly recommend, a great experience. read more
We have been here many times. Whether you walk it (my preference), bike it or drive it you should have an excellent time looking at the animals. The best tip I can give is to follow the keepers' talks as the animals can sometimes be a little difficult to see if they don't want to be seen. We have also done the behind the scenes tours and these are worth doing too. If you compare the costs of feeding the giraffes etc with Sydney you will also see it is cheaper at Dubbo. Give yourself a day which means that you will need accommodation. There is plenty at Dubbo so you can shop around. There is accommodation at the zoo and it is very expensive but might be a treat? read more
What is not to love?? This is a huge, very open zoo. It is about 6km around the course and you can walk, ride your bike (or hire one) drive your car or even hire a Moke! We chose to ride and when I say 'ride' it was more like 'Ride a bit, walk a bit' so it really isn't too hard if you havn't ridden that much. Be sure to check out what 'encounters' are on for the day you are there. We fed the giraffes by hand for $5 per person (BARGIN!!!) There is also big cat and African animal encounters which would have scared our little one. If you are really keen you can extend your zoo adventure with either a camp out in tents or the more upmarket, Zoofari Lodge! Last thing to note: Remember your ticket is good for the whole day, so if your little ones need a mid-day nap, hold on to your tickets and and go home for a mid-day nap and come back in the afternoon! read more

Disappointing considering the hype. Spent a full day there and apart from the nice, wouldn't go back again. Many animals were not on display, or were far away from the viewing area or asleep. For such a big zoo, it has a lack of animals. Taronga Zoo Sydney is much better. read more
All in all, an excellent zoo, housing animals in huge enclosures where they are breeding well! Contrary to popular belief this zoo is not technically an "open range" zoo, in that you dont drive through the animals enclosures, but you do have the option of driving your own car around the zoo - the other options are walking (its a 6km circuit) or riding a bike - which you can get a trailer for to tow your kids in too! Throughout the zoo are a number of beautiful shady picnic spots with bbqs and tables - my favourite was the Asian Wetlands Picnic Area - just next door to a beautiful lake with an island on it housing Siamang Gibbons, and not a far walk from the Indian Rhinos, Otters and Tigers. Some of the other highlights are both Asian and African Elephants, a lot of Giraffes, lots of Zebras, 3 different species of Rhino (White rhinos, black rhinos and Indian rhinos), a huge hippo pool and lake islands for primates. One way to judge a zoo is to see how many baby animals there are - and in this zoo they are breeding like rabbits! There were so many baby animals of all different sorts in there and every single enclosure was very big and spacious with lots of shade for the animals. All in all, a great zoo! read more

Was there last October and it was something different from the other zoos. The animals seem to be all relaxed and have plenty of acreage to move around. You have the option to drive through, hire a buggy or push bike or just walk the distance through the zoo which I did and it was plenty of fun. The price was worth it as I spent 4 hours there and didn't have to go back for a 2nd day. read more
