The worst institution in Texas! When they do answer, the advisors are rude and totally misdirect you. According to my advisor I should take two classes a semester and still get FAsfa. Communication with literally anyone on campus is terrible! I transferred and still...their inability to do what they are needed to do is insane. things like just straight up not cancel aid and send transcripts even when I have done everything on my end. I am not a hater, I don't even leave reviews usually BUTt Tarleton is that bad. read more

First, the review from 7/11/2022 is spot on!! This school is a joke. I am paying to get my degree, but there is not much instruction or learning. My instructors all have other jobs and I pass classes just by showing up. I would appreciate access to supportive resources and a proper book, but no, we don't have a book to study by. I am very disappointed that this school is not serious about learning and outcomes. I will be contacting the state in regards to this. My money is being taken just to pad pockets of higher ups. read more

I received the BEST campus tour from here and that's aside from SFA. I'm starting to see why my brother chose this university over all the others. As soon as we walked into the Welcome Center, we were greeted with a big warm smile and I could feel the tradition and history that was put into this campus. In fact, one of the girls from the desk was a San Jac alumni which was super cool. Kristin was her name and she was a Communications major. If you don't know Tarleton is under the Texas A&M University system and stands with strong traditions and rich history, but what makes this school different from the College Station and Galveston location is that fact that the campus is overly friendly, makes you feel you are family and at home, and isn't torn between strong Conservative beliefs. Our tour guide Ashlyn, was so nice, enthusiastic about the campus, and extremely informative!! She was even funny too. It was such an eye-opener from our horrible tour at UTSA yesterday. Tour date: June 15, 2016 at 1pm. Before the tour, we had the opportunity to watch a video about Tarleton which included strong history about how John Tarleton the founder of the school, how the mascot of the school changed from being the Plowboys to the Texans for the guys and Texanns for the ladies. Which was very cool!!! They were named the plowboys since they stood for dedication, work-hard, integrity, courage, and friendliness. Also, the video had additional information about tutition, academics, admission, housing, and where our fees would be going. The walking tour was like I said very informative and the fact that the campus was a beautiful one as well. Not one building looked exactly like the next which brought out character. They have two rec centers one mainly for cardio, weights, basketball, rockwall, racquetball, and track and another one for swimming. I really liked how my tour guide could answer all my questions about kinesiology and she even pointed out some main information about kinesiology and how kine majors would take some of their classes in the gym for running and swimming. The Wisdom Gym is for kinesiology majors. What I didn't know about Tarleton was the fact they have Pre-Veterinary as a major which was super cool just like Texas A&M. Also, they have a horticulture center and several gardens throughout the campus grounds. Plus, they have a horticulture club that anybody could join. So cool!!! Class size is low which is 19:1 and the largest lecture hall would be in the Science building for core classes mainly for freshman students. read more

Came into the university with high hopes, left with nothing but hatred toward this school. First off, if you "can't afford" to create more and bigger parking lots for students, don't make new dorms. I was tired of walking half a mile to my hall. Also, for the love of humanity, this school supports AG so much they don't believe in picking up horse feces on the sidewalk throughout campus. The students there are a bunch of hics, not surprised though due to the fact the school is located literally in the middle of nowhere. The academics Is a joke here as well. This is a good school for AG majors, engineering majors, and nursing majors. Every other major is treated like a middle school class. Also, this school "claims" to be a D1 school, yet can not seem to win any of their games. I've never been more eager and ready to transfer elsewhere than to stay here. read more

Loved attending this college, there's just a severe lack of things to do except drugs and sex and Gonnorhea is more common than cash. But I genuinely did enjoy my time at Tarleton and the friends I made there and the knowledge I gained. Just one real complaint; please stop adding dorms if you cannot add the parking lots to accommodate the students living in them. Parking was a nightmare. I understand that the town hates the fact that this school is in it and drawing college kids into a small town who are then taking most if not all the available jobs from the residents and as a result will not let you expand, but just buy some land outside of town and build dorms and parking there. read more

I was in the graduate medical lab science program. I did learn a lot and enjoyed many of my professors , but the lack of communication is horrendous! It's supposed to be a program for people who work full time, but it is definitely not designed that way - and you aren't told up front about some of the daytime commitments that arise. Luckily, I have a flexible employer that allowed me to take so many days off that were needed to complete certain courses and rotations. We've been given so much incorrect information about what is happening in the program and my rotations kept being pushed back and changed because of issues among the department and with communication, which led to me having to constantly adjust my time-off requests. If you work full time, be prepared for a lot of days off! read more

Came here to take one online class. I was admitted as a non-degree seeking student. Absolutely everything about this university was painful. I got my bill which was over $300 more than expected due to a tacked on "masters program" fee (that was after the "college of business" fee and the " online " fee). This fee wasn't disclosed except one place online so if you hadn't gone there, you missed it. I was told by the business office that they just tell students to "expect 20-25% higher costs than what they think". So really, " just expect to be screwed" is their motto. My email to three different departments regarding this went unanswered. Next, the log-in process was abysmal. You get a temporary log in. Then when you're an actual student, all that has to change and you have to set it all up again. God help you if you have to reset it because IT seems to not really know how to help you. My instructor was a pompous tool. He gave zero feedback and didn't participate in any discussions with students. Grading was completely arbitrary and he required us to take the final exam three days early so he could be done grading by week's end. Lastly, when I finally went to get my transcript as a non-degree seeking student, I had a hold from Admissions. That's right, they didn't get something from me when I applied so they were withholding my transcript. Want to know what it was? A transcript from a community college 18 years prior-the credit was already on my bachelors transcript, I'd already been accepted and limited to six hours at Tarleton, and they'd never asked for this transcript when they accepted me. Yet here I was, done with the class and being told they wouldn't release my transcript without me sending in another transcript. The graduate admissions head wanted to release this hold just for the day which meant I could have this conversation every time I wanted a transcript. I had to go round and round with her explaining multiple times that I only took ONE CLASS WITH THEM AND WASN'T COMING BACK. She finally relented and released the hold. I'm not even sure this was legal considering I had already paid for the class and received the grade. What university holds your transcript for not receiving a transcript??? This university is worth about as much as the town is located in. That is to say, absolutely nothing. It suffers from major issues including but not limited to: over-bureaucratization, facility and staff who are full of themselves, millennial nihilism, and a complete lack of concern for quality, efficacy, and efficiency. I cannot condemn this university enough. I have had a terrible experience here the past 4 years I've been here. It would be tolerable if it wasn't located in one of the most hic-riddled town in Texas. read more

Tarleton is great! I came here in 2011 and its 2015 and I'm still loving it! Great professors, campus isn't too small but it's also not too big. Parking is a problem but I think it's probably like that at every university. The dorms aren't too bad and we're getting new upgrades every day around campus! BLEED PURPLE!:) read more

Absolutely love this school! Been here since 2014 working on my MPA and I couldn't be happier. The location and culture of the area provide a unique setting and mentality of the student body along with a diverse but insightful faculty. I highly recommend giving this school more than a passing glance. read more
