We were riding on the Van Buren Trail and wanted to avoid the crowds in South Haven. We spotted this food truck from the trail, read some nice reviews and decided to give it a whirl. Best decision we made. Fruit Street Kitchen serves up some of the tastiest food in South Haven at a trainable price point. It is a must-stop if you are in the area. We were greeted by Monique who was so helpful in narrowing down our choices. Truly, everything on the menu looked amazing. We choose the fried catfish, pork tip with BBQ sauce and sides of baked beans, greens and coleslaw. Each dish was cooked to perfections and exploded with flavor. Our catfish was crispy, tender and well seasoned; not the least bit greasy. The pork rib tips had amazing BBQ flavor without being overpowered by the sauce. It is possible, however, that our sides were the stars of the meal. We love greens and these greens, made with smoked Turkey, had so much flavor without being salty. Similarly, the baked beans were excellent and the coleslaw was cold, crispy and tangy. Though we were full, we couldn't leave without dessert. The banana pudding would have been our first choice, but they were out. So we tried the beautiful-looking pineapple cake. It was moist, fruity and not too sweet. The truck is next to a quiet park and there are a couple picnic tables outside if you wish to stay. The environment is quite comfortable. Monique and Ricco serve up their prized family recipes with the attention to detail that is the hallmark of passionate foodies. We wish them wild success.
