She was also instantly happy to take "non-traditional" photos. I didn't want a bunch of people smiling at the camera, but just wanted the fun and happiness to come through in the photos. I have to say that Julie's candid shots are her best, and she manages to catch that smile or giggle from the other side of the room. She was within our price range even her top package was reasonable (but now she raised her prices, so sorry to those who are about to book her) and her photography style is what we're looking for - photojournalistic. We interviewed more than 15 photographers and was about to hire another one (to make a long story short, we're glad we didn't get him). When that didn't turn out well, we kept looking for weeks for another photographer until we came across Cate's website. We saw, we loved and we immediately booked a meeting with her. We were a little disappointed that she didn't bring any albums or pictures of her work. She did answer all our questions and concerns. We also asked if she accepted credit card and she said "yes, thru paypal". Not sure if she set up Paypal yet or if she accepts credit card now but we ended up having to pay her via check for her services. So came the time we had to take our engagement pictures (part of the package), we mentioned that we wanted some garden and beach scenes. She was ok with that and suggested San Francisco. It was fine with us because we know there's alot of great places there. We went to the Japanese Friendship Garden in SF but ended up spending most of our time there. We didn't have enough time for the beach pictures because we were an hour late for her photo shoot so I guess we couldn't blame her for wanting to go home. We would have wanted some beach shots. But she was truly easy and fun to work with and always has great ideas for our shots. July 2008 - Wedding day came and Cate was there on time. She started taking pictures and got alot of great shots of me in my room. I didn't get alot of pictures with my girls because my girls weren't where they're suppose to be. But throughout the wedding, Cate got alot of great shots that told the story of our wedding day. She has a great eye for photography and captures alot of the silliest and best moments of our wedding day. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Months later after the wedding: Cate sent us a sneak peak of our wedding pictures a few days after the wedding. After a couple of weeks, I emailed her to provide us something from our wedding. She immediately sent us a link to our pictures including a slideshow of our wedding. I was ecstatic because I finally have a link to send to my family (who's been bugging me for weeks). After a few weeks, we finally picked out 100 out of 1000 pictures for our album. Sent that to Cate and got a preview of the album. A few weeks later she was able to send us the DVD of our pictures and wedding album. I had to email her several times for issues with our pictures and finally she was able to complete everything in our package by January '09. We didn't get the hard bound, flush-mount album with nice, thick, vibrant pages and pictures we thought was a part of the package. Instead, we got one of those albums that was ordered from Apple. She did give us additional albums to compensate the wait on our album and photo-DVD but it would be nice if Cate shows her clients the album type and photos she took. It would also be nice if Cate offers the coffee-table style album.

We had originally scheduled an engagement session; the contract was signed in Nov. come January we hadn't heard from her and time was running out. That said, I got caught up in the holidays and wasn't on top of her either. We scheduled a day and due to a death in the family she had to reschedule; only she never called us back for a new date. So as our wedding quickly approached I called and she informed me she had been back at work for 2 weeks. So why not call? anyway. . . she refunded us for the engagement session. On the day of the wedding she was an absolute pleasure to work with. She was really attentive to us and took pictures of all that we asked her to. I can say that she worked her butt off that day. BUT. . . When we got our pictures back they were mediocre at best. I was really disappointed. they were sort of ok. I guess you get what you [pay for. We have enough to make a wedding album and we're not photogenic people, but it was day I felt pretty and my pictures of it weren't. I will also say that she was a week + late getting our pictures to us because of a family death. so either this was a really bad few months for her or. . . of the 600 or so pictures maybe 90 are useable.

With a winning personality and soothing demeanor, Julio put me at ease and used creative prompts to change my expression and help me relate to the camera in a way that I've been unable to before. This guy is like some kind of Jedi master or something, drawing out a side of me and a look that I didn't know existed. And then, on the back end, Julio demonstrated a great eye and insightful artistic sensibility. He helped me choose images that I might not have and retouched them in a way that made me look better than I think I really do. And all for a price that was super cheap for what I got.
