I have to say that on the surface I loved this place, it's clean and very atmospheric, the outside deck is lovely and they actually built it around a tree and included it in the design rather than cutting it down and killing it.
This is a new restaurant so I'm writing this as what I consider a "Soft review" which means that sometime in the future I will return here and re-review it to see if needed changes have been made, I am now going to break this review into categories.
Interior and Design: The first thing that hits you walking into the space is the yellow "Conditional Pass" health inspection card that they are flying for a hygiene violation, I was honestly surprised by this because of how new the location is. The interior itself is very wooden, a comfort oriented space with high tables and chairs, the main focal point is, rightly, the bar. We ended up on the outside balcony simply because we had someone with us who is uncomfortable using high chairs. The balcony is great, it reminds me of a private deck on a house up in the mountains and is very aesthetically pleasing.
Service: The service was average, normal inside and out, the waitress wasn't particularly fast at anything but she wasn't slow either, we didn't receive flatware until our food came out but since this is primarily a pub it makes sense. One thing that did bother us is that the menus have the pages on different sides. They carry 2 inside pages, one yellow and one orange, in my menu the left page was the orange and the right page was the yellow. . .but on my friends menu the right page was the orange and the left page was the yellow. . .it created some confusion early on.
Bar: The bar is amazing with an impressive 36 beers on tap, something that I love is that you can sample them before ordering a full on glass.
Food: Alright here's the main part of the review, the food. I bought some friends along with me and they generously allowed me to sample their orders for this review, due to the amount of items I will review each individually.
Irish Nachos: This was the first item that made it to the table and I have to say that they were pretty good, it gets a few points knocked off because I'm pretty sure the chips are store bought but not everyone can make fresh chips everyday. The meat was semi flavorful and the sauce was good.
T&A Burger (Normal): I loved this burger, from the sauces to the bun and the meat and the greens it had an amazing flavor and I would order it again.
T&A Burger (No sauce): I was fairly disappointed in this to be totally honest, without the sauce this burger just falls outright flat on its face flavor wise. I was hoping that without the sauce the burger would still carry some sort of seasoning and punch but it didn't. The true mark of a good burger is if it can still impress the person eating it even without all the fancy bells and whistles, the meat should speak for itself. The person who ordered this item did not finish it as a result.
Escargot & Garlic bread: Amazing, the escargot has so much flavor, the cook was done dead on and the bread was delicious. Pairing the escargot and the bread together and eating them at the same time introduces a nice flavor experience.
Caesar Salad: I did not try this item but I did have one gripe about it. . . it costs $10 and for the amount that you get it seems a bit high.
In the end out of the 4 people at our table only 2 of us will be returning,
Nice decor, average service, average food and pricing that makes you think a bit has landed "Taps and Apps" an average 3 star review.
I will be going back in a few months to see how they are doing when they are 100% in the swing of things. read more
