We arrived late on a Friday night, close to 9pm, and they were close to full. I think they were still turning over tables close to 10pm. We've always liked this spot and used to eat at the previous Italian restaurant that was here. I think Tappo has improved the table layout - it feels there are more tables but you didn't feel confined.
We shared an eggplant entree. I had high hopes for this dish hoping for luscious eggplant in delicious tomato sauce with lashings of cheese. Instead it was served between tomato layers. I found the eggplant and tomato were not tender.
The highlight of our dinner for me was the Wild Boar Pappardelle. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the meat was so tender and flavoursome.
Dr. Skorpio thought his veal was cooked well and the serve was very generous. We interpreted the dish to be a veal cutlet and when it arrived, he was confused and thought it was meant to serve two people - there was a LOT of meat. Clearly it was two cutlets thick - you can see the two bones in our picture. Simply served on mushrooms and rocket - this satisfied his veal craving.
The dessert was not amazing but what we did like was that it was served sliced off one large tart and it had just been cooked fresh. I also noticed that they served Tiramisu from a big dish - it gave me that homely feel.
Would have to come back to determine consistency of food quality, maybe sample the pizzas and revisit the review to see if we can nudge for 4 stars.
If I could give a half star, I would definitely do that for the generous veal dish. read more
