If I'm totally honest, the reason I picked this place is because it's the same name as a casino in Las Vegas. Silly reason, I know. But, I do understand that rings sometimes have issues. And, in this case, my wife realized that her diamond was a bit loose. So, here's where I got an education about diamonds that I hoped I would never need. First of all, to get coverage on your homeowners insurance, you have to make a specific rider to your insurance. I didn't do that. Fortunately, the lady at Golden Nugget helped me through the whole thing. It didn't surprise me that she tried to convince me that the diamond itself should be replaced. She gave me that magnifying eyepiece that jewelers use, and she said, "Look, there's a chip on the top part over there." I couldn't see anything. And, if I can't see anything with magnification, I don't think it's that big of a deal. For the record, my wife was OK with that decision, especially since our daughter just started college. But, the nice thing was that she didn't press the issue. When she found out I didn't have insurance coverage, she helped me find the best possible option to reset the diamond. It cost $180, which seems like a lot, and it took a week to do, which seemed like a long time, but it's a small price compared to the price of the diamond itself. And, the ring seriously looks like a new ring after the repair. One minor annoyance was that they won't do appraisals on rings that they didn't sell. But, if I have any issues with my ring or with hers again, I think I'll come back here. And, by then, I should have my homeowners insurance in place to cover it.

Here's what happened, in a nut shell: my son found a jar filled with old costume jewelry when we were renovating our cottage. He had been begging me to take him to a store that buys gold to see if he could get some money for it, but I knew it was all crappy costume jewelry. Finally, I agreed and added a couple of very small pieces of my old gold jewelry so he would get some money for something. My son found The Diamond Vault via Google. I'd never heard of it. Well, we went in and they treat us like royalty. (ugh, I wished I'd dressed nicer!) The friendly woman (Laura?) took her time going through each piece, explaining the machine, etc...and concluded with less than 1 g of gold. She took her note and the little pieces... and Mr. Timothy Mayer came back in with a little stack of bills. He praised my son for his instincts and gave him cash including valuable $2 bills to keep as an investment. He also gave him a wonderful lecture on investing (as well as giving to others, eg. donating his costume jewelry to a charitable thrift shop) and showed him around, including silver & gold coins and rare $500 and $1000 bills... It was riveting and my son soaked it all in. (I think he's going to start collecting coins and investing in metals!) The staff at The Diamond Vault of Troy has at least 2 more lifelong customers and advocates! They are nothing short of remarkable.

After…read morereceiving glowing reviews from a friend, I decided to check out this jeweler to have a new ring designed from precious heirlooms I've inherited. My first visit with the owner went well enough that I thought I could trust her with my jewelry. Once we decided on a design I handed over my precious memories and waited in anticipation of seeing my beautiful new ring. I did have a few red flags with regards to her not supplying an inventory/description of my jewelry but at this point I was still trusting her. When I picked up my ring, I was more than happy but a little nervous about the crinkled notes stuffed in a baggie with my left over stones. I still wanted to trust her and enjoy my ring. Once home I realized that the ring was to large and contacted her about sizing. In all of my excitement over my new ring, I also realized that a single earring that had diamonds in it was missing. She decided not to use that piece so it would be returned. I went in to the store and saw an entirely different personality in her. When I asked politely about my missing stones she became loud and aggravated. She became so hostile that I told her she was making me feel very uncomfortable. With a smirk, she just said "leave then". I did attempt to ask her again about the missing diamonds and with a giggle she responded "do you want me to give you a few diamonds?" I felt so betrayed, scammed and angry that I allowed what was supposed to be a wonderful experience turn into a nightmare with me being left with a ring that didn't fit and losing a piece of jewelry that I can't replace. I had to incur another cost to get the ring sized but it felt worth it to deal with a reputable jeweler as I will never walk into this jewelry store again. I will however be filing a small claims court action for possible replacement of my missing diamonds as well as a police report to make sure the theft is of record for court. My friend that referred me was completely shocked at the results of my visit and has stopped referring this business. So. if your wanting a beautiful piece or in the market for nice jewelry, avoid this scam artist. You'll be left feeling gullible and scammed with a heavy price tag of over $2000 for a simple design. I should add that there is no actual jeweler on site and all the pieces are taken from the store to another jeweler.
