Since its National Pizza Day 2024 friends Adam Ginnotti, Dave Cavaliere, and I headed to Paterson to one of those bucket list, iconic pizza places, that I always say you have to visit before they're gone. Taormina Pizzeria & Restaurant was established in 1981, and is still owned and operated by the same family, who emigrated here from Italy. It has been rated as one of the 3 best Pizzeria/Italian Restaurants in Paterson. Old school, small, red-sauce, unpretentious, store front joint serving New York style pizza and other Italian favorites. Portnoy gave them a visit a couple of years ago and admitted he liked the pie despite it not being his style. We were welcomed with warmth and hospitality by the busy counter staff, and had the opportunity to discuss the eatery's history with the son of the original owners, 2nd generation Pizzaiolo. The pie was excellent. Unique in its own way. Heavier, chewier, doughier, and slightly thicker than most, but it all came together to create a delicious pizza. Nice, tasty sauce, with just the right amount if cheese, and perfectly seasoned. I always prefer a plain-Jane cheese pie over one with all those toppings, which I think can ruin a well made pie. We had a great time celebrating "National Pizza Day" at Taormina's, 43 years and still going strong.

We finally gotta pizza the pie. #Badumtsss

Many things make me nostalgic: Old Barney episodes... Men In Black... Trips to Dutch Country, PA... And OLD pizzerias from childhood that are still standing... Well like an old hip-hop duo (MORE nostalgia), I'm gonna channel their famous single to tell how many stars I'm giving: I got 5 on it! I grew up eating the pizza from this joint, from the time I was about 4 and lived across the street from them. Their pizza hasn't changed, and I still feel like a measly kindy-gartener when I bite into a slice. It's so thick and chewy. #Pause. Between the thick, soft layer of cheese, and the crust that's thin enough to still be called NY-style, but thick enough to be chewy and not overly crispy? Yeah this slice is a winner. They've got some dope combos on their pizzas that are pretty modern, but have still maintained the amazing food of yesteryear that have kept many people coming here for decades now. No frills. Just good pizza. Some say it's too thick. But those are the same people who find models with 2-inch waists to be sexy. Nope. Gimme my thick'ums... Well, PIE that is... Oh, wait... Ummmm... #PhrasingBoom #ArcherVoice #DoubleEntendre #Innuendo #idc

Pasta Special. Grilled chicken and broccoli. Lots of garlic. About $9. My favorite.

Guy seemed overwhelmed and reluctantly took my order. I showed up 30 min later and no one had any record of my order. I recognized the guy's voice and told him he took my order. He was pissed and got into a shouting match with me with 3 other customers around. He eventually apologized and offered a free side of meatballs and spaghetti (don't order that btw, super underwhelming). 2nd time: Wife placed an order for a pie with half pepperoni on their website. Came back with the order and the pie had full toppings. Small nit but annoying. 3rd time: I called at 6pm on a Thursday. No one picked up. Opted to place order on their website and got the same item as last time. Showed up at and the same miserable guy asked for my name and order... and then said he didn't have any order. I told him I placed an order on the website... and he said "You should have called." with an awful (only a mother can love) grin. I showed him my email confirming 6:20pm pickup time and he said he had no order... before pulling a pie with my name on it. I asked if it had half pepperoni and it didn't. Full toppings AGAIN. Clearly, their website is not equipped to actually take half toppings orders. Pizza is OK but not worth the headache or poor service here.

Finally got to try this place out after my friend told me about years ago…read more They don't have any pizza pies on display but they do serve slices. I could tell the business was very busy, but I was so surprised that despite being surrounded by the "crazy" she was doing her best to suggest what she liked and then after speaking a bit, what I might like. She was very helpful and considerate despite me calling during the "lunch rush". I came into the business --- small but efficient space --- and it was a quick transaction. My kind of place. As I was eating for 1, I didn't want to be a true "big-back", new year, new resolutions. I just got a 10' Neo Margherita Pizza + Parmesan Peppercorn Bone-In Wings. So the thing that makes Grumpy's stand-out and different from the competition? Boy oh boy, that crust. It is sourdough, it is crisp, it is light, it is so complimentary to anything that goes on it. I truly understand the hype about their pizzas --- and I truly can't wait to try more from their establishment. On to the wings; I ordered the Parmesan Peppercorn Bone-In Wings, simply because it's a flavor I don't see too regularly on the menus. It was exquisite; I could only imagine how much better it would've tasted fresh from the fryer. I had a 15 minutes drive until I had eaten the food. So the food-fluencers are not lying about this place. Check 'em out --- an awesome business ran by awesome people.

It almost felt as if i was visiting a relatives's home. After reading the reviews we opted for their best seller. The Chimi Pizza and the Bfast pizza. Lord have Mercy. It was simply delicious. I've never had that combination before and it was out of this World. It seems the owners have taken risks with your not so traditional pizza place and I must say...It truly has worked wonders. Im excited to go on a night they play music. That should be super fun! I'd been wanting to try it and was thrilled to find a new location nearby. During my first visit, I was impressed that even though we took the pies to go, they were still hot and crispy when we got home. The chimi pie was exactly as it should be--possibly even better than a NJ chimi I have had. We also ordered a plain pie for my son, who loved it, and a choco-flan. On a subsequent visit, we dined in and discovered that all pastas were 50% off on Wednesdays. I tried the chimi pasta and chicken Alfredo, both of which were delicious. The oxtail pie is a must-try if you enjoy flaky beef with a hint of sweet and spicy. We also enjoyed the flan and the Dominican juices and sodas. Wahizza is definitely worth a visit!
