I live a few houses down and hear crying non stop. After reading the review left by an assistant who quit working there, it now makes sense.

Albany Sunflower Day Care

Albany Sunflower Day Care

Our two-year-old attended Albany Sunflower Day Care for over a year, and we truly feel so lucky to…read morehave found this place. From day one, Helen has been an incredibly kind, attentive, and patient caretaker. She brings a calm and nurturing energy that our son responded to immediately. Mornings can be a bit of a challenge for us -- he often resists getting out the door -- but the moment he saw Helen, he would light up and completely settle down. It gave us a lot of peace of mind knowing he was in such loving hands. One of the reasons we gravitated towards Sunflower Day Care is the Mandarin immersion. We don't speak Chinese at home, but after a year, our son developed an impressive understanding of Mandarin and built a solid vocabulary for his age. It's been amazing to see him respond to Mandarin phrases, sing songs, and even surprise us by using words we didn't know he'd learned. The environment at Sunflower Day Care is warm and structured. You can tell Helen genuinely cares about every child and puts so much effort into making sure they're happy, engaged, and learning. We're so grateful for everything Helen and her daycare have done for our family.

His parents highly recommended the daycare. Soon after we found out more about the place, our little one started the program when he was 14 months old. Ms. Helen and her family are wonderful people. A child can feel the loving energy from her right away. Every morning, she welcomes our child and other kids with her positive and caring energy. Our kid has never been sick from going to school and really loved mentioning the names of his friends. Families going to Sunflower show great care about their kids, which makes us feel this is a nice community. We always feel safe leaving our kid in Ms. Helen's care. Her backyard play space is a gem in the city! It never gets too sunny on hot afternoons, and early mornings have lots of sunlight. It would be nice to have more play structures and more naturally padded ground like wood chips or sand like at parks. But still the yard has good air as it is surrounded by big trees. We do not speak Chinese at home but the bilingual experience was valuable. Our kid started to learn and say simple Mandarin words. He will soon forget about Chinese once he stops hearing it but we believe the experience will never leave him. It is a great thing that Sunflower provides lunch. Our kid learned to use utensils very well after attending Sunflower. Ms. Helen can always let us know what was for lunch. In my opinion, if the school can post a lunch menu weekly, moms like me would really appreciate it. Our kid enjoyed his time there every single day! We love Ms. Helen and her little school!

The classrooms are well-equipped with age-appropriate Montessori activities, keeping her engaged and offering practice in various subjects like English, Math, Chinese, Science, and Art. She loves her teachers and often talks about them at home. I can see they are doing an excellent job teaching her not just academics, but also good behavior and independence. The teachers organize a variety of well-planned activities and events throughout the year for both US and Chinese holidays. Our family enjoys participating in these events, and we appreciate the many photos and videos shared with parents afterward to capture the memories. Another great feature of Little Tree is the optional lunch program. For $6 a day, they provide a tasty, nutritious, and balanced meal, which is one less thing for me to worry about.

There is a reason this place only has 5-star reviews! As a first-time mom, I was extremely anxious about leaving my son with caregivers outside of family. What I didn't expect was that the wonderful teachers at Orkidz would start to feel like extended family to our baby. Before enrolling, I had heard plenty of horror stories about daycares where staff seemed disengaged or unhappy in their jobs. That has absolutely not been our experience here. The women at Orkidz genuinely LOVE children, and it shows every single day in the warmth, patience, and care they bring to the classroom. We toured several daycares before Orkidz, but the moment we walked in for our tour with Ms. Sheila, we were sold because no other place could compare. We were amazed with the facility, their library, their beautiful outdoor space, and the impressive commercial-style kitchen where they make yummy food for the kids. As for our son, I had prepared myself for difficult drop-offs and lots of crying. Instead, after a brief moment of confusion on his very first day (not sadness or separation anxiety because the teachers got to distracting him right away!), he settled in and adjusted to daycare immediately. He loves being around his little friends, is excited to go every morning, and is all smiles every time we come back to pick him up. Our son loves all the teachers, his face lights up when he sees them every morning, and he is especially attached to his primary teacher, Ms. Azadeh. They also have fun and engaging classes and we absolutely love the daily updates and pictures! In just a couple of months, we've already seen our now toddler become more social, curious, and comfortable around other children and adults. He also eats so well there and they have a variety of homecooked meals that I could never replicate. If you see a spot open at Orkidz, consider yourself lucky and save the spot as soon as you can - you will not regret it!

Dina doesn't just care for the children's day-to-day needs; she helps prepare them for the next stages of life, from preschool to kindergarten and beyond. We've had all three of our children in Dina's care over the years, and choosing her daycare was honestly one of the best decisions we've ever made. From the very beginning, Dina created an environment where our kids felt safe, loved, and excited to learn every day. Her routines are consistent and thoughtful -- from meals and naps to playtime and learning activities -- and she gives each child the attention they need to succeed. Thanks to her patient teaching and creative projects, our kids learned so much -- recognizing letters, numbers, shapes, and colors -- and even started writing their names by age three. By the time they moved on to kindergarten, they were confident, curious, and more than ready both academically and socially. Dina's home is always welcoming, filled with fun learning materials and toys that spark curiosity and independence. She's great about keeping parents informed and is always honest and open in her communication, which made us feel completely at ease. Dina is more than a caregiver-she's like a second mom. She truly loves and supports each child as if they were her own. She, along with Miss Rene, Kara, Big Karey, and Karey Michael, have built such a loving community where kids learn kindness, confidence, and compassion. We'll truly miss Dina and her amazing team. Our family is forever grateful for the care, love, and strong foundation she's given our children and the positive impact she's had on our lives. With her years of experience, what our kids gained from their time with her is absolutely priceless. We will miss our daycare family!

I searched far and wide before choosing Emma's - touring the large institutional Montessori ones to the family style centers. Pedagogy was important to me, but what I was really looking for was a place where my child would be loved and cared for, at my admittedly high standards, as much as possible. I feel blessed to have found Emma's, a truly special space where my child has thrived from day one - from mediation and exercise in the morning, to learning how to share with others, from the home-cooked meals, to the one-on-one attention, to the creative daily artwork projects to the fluent singing in Mandarin (a language not spoken in our home!). All of the physical spaces Emma has built for the children are beautiful and creative, fostering that sense of magic and discovery so important for very young children. During the past three years, my child learned to ride a bike at Emma's, learned to write his name, learned to count in Mandarin and Spanish, learned to go potty, the list goes on. I was astounded how every single day for the past three years, at pickup Emma knew exactly what my child ate and how he felt and how he played - and how all of the other children were similarly doing. As a parent, it felt so good to be absolutely secure in the knowledge that my child's needs - whether that's washing hands or staying hydrated or getting comforted after a fall - were seen and met with love every day. Every day, my child would regale me with tales about his friendships, his wonderful teachers, his activities. During pickups, the children would all swarm around to say goodbye. It was the perfect setup and size (10-14 children, 2-3 teachers) for my child to explore personal growth, relationships, and the first touch of community in a safe and joyful environment. I'm so grateful we had Emma and the space she creates and holds for these critical firsts. What Emma has created is so rare and genuine. It was an easy decision to hold off on sending my daughter to formal fancy "preschool" with her brother - we want her to experience another year of growth and joy with Emma. Thank you Emma for all of your extraordinary love and care!
