I knew he would never do it for himself and if we didn't do it soon, we may never actually get to it. There are a lot of choices out there. After narrowing it down to three, I called and left voicemail's asking for more info. Not only was Jimmie Jack's the first to call back, but they actually sounded like they cared. I talked to Kevin and asked about every cliched question I could think of. He took the time to walk me through everything and made sure I knew this was the right fit. The next day I booked the "Signature Seven" package and the excitement started to grow. Without getting in to a ridiculous amount of detail, I just want to put in emphasis on how great this place is. Everything was taken care of for us. We were booked on all the right types of trips. Directions to boats were given. The staff [EVERYONE!] was incredible and friendly in the most genuine of ways. From Captain Charlie and Cooper, making sure we got to the right spots to get my Dad a 60# Halibut, Captain Dan taking the time to teach me proper technique to catch more fish than anyone else on the boat out in Homer, Jo and Scott taking the time to work through rain and cold to try and get us our King Salmon limits, and last, but not least, Tony literally getting hooked in the face by some random dude in our group, but keeping a positive attitude and teaching us all how to slay the Sockeye. They were all total badasses! They worked hard to make sure we had the best time out on the water we could have and on a trip like this, with the smiles and memories we got to carry home with us, let alone like 300# of fish, they deserve more praise than I could ever give them. Finally, deserving her own special paragraph, there was Phyllis. The "Lodge Mama," keeping us well fed and caffeinated every morning, Phyllis was the kind of person that immediately makes an impact on you and is someone you know you are going to miss before you even leave. She'd greet you with a smile and a hug in the morning and she went above and beyond what her position called for to make sure you knew you were making a genuine connection with someone that really cared about your well-being and wanted to know the real you. She described our encounters as divine intervention, and while some may scoff at such a fleeting moment, I truly feel blessed to have had her in my life for the 7 days. Crazy as it may be to believe, even after only a week, it was hard to say goodbye. She made this trip more special by just being herself and if you are lucky enough to ever meet her, cherish that moment. It will not be one you soon forget or ever take for granted. Are there cheaper trips out there? Of course there are. Could you arrange all the trips we went out on, on your own? Undoubtedly. Could you find your own lodging? Definitely. Should you though? No way. If you are going up North for your first time and you want all the little things worked out for you in the most streamlined and convenient way possible, this is the place to be. Plus, you get to meet the best people throughout the process! You can't put a price-tag on that. Do yourself a favor and call Jimmie Jack's today. I promise you that you not regret it.

This was our second trip and we wanted to have…read moreseveral fishing experiences and see some of the country and not eat every meal at a restaurant, this was a great option as it's on the central Kenai river and they have boats in Seward and Homer as well. We did all three. You'll need to rent a car and drive 2.5 hours from Anchorage. These are nice cabins with kitchens so you'll need to shop although it's 10 minutes to dozens of restaurants. They are great guides with excellent customer service. They made sure you catch fish and leave happy. They also have nice cabins to stay right on the river. We didn't get to stay there as they were fully booked, but they invited us to their fish BBQ with some amazing homemade food. That was the best meal we had in Soldotna. I would definitely use their service if I come back to the Kenai river.

Walked over, Kevin introduced himself and started helping me immediately. They rented me a net for about $38, helped me secure it to the top of the rental and made sure it wasn't scratching anything, and then told me to bring it back at 5 the next day, "or whenever, and if we're not here just set it alongside the trailer." I wish more businesses were as helpful and friendly as these guys. If I come back to Kenai next year I am renting from these guys again! Thanks Kevin & Jim!

Mark (our guide) is very professional and it appears he knows the Kenai like the back of his hand. He suggested having dinner at Mykel's where they prepared our fresh caught salmon three different ways. We had grilled salmon, salmon florintine, and salmon with a raspberry sauce. He knows all the places up and down all the rivers in the area and stays on top of everything fishing related. There has never been a year we haven't limited out with him. Matt isn't only an excellent guide but this man can fish himself....there Is not many people I have seen who can master a fly rod like he can! More importantly he is a great human being. He is very patient and helpful to all skill levels of his clients and is a great help to all of them. Dan and his family (John and Margie) provided the perfect outing for my party of six, which included three kids. Knowledgeable, helpful, and eager to talk about life in Alaska all while reeling in fish after fish after fish. Although we didn't catch any monsters, we limited out quickly and with Dan's live tank were able to pick and choose which halibut to keep. Additionally, we were able to keep any cod for fish and chips. Included with the day's adventure were the filleting and vacuum sealing of our catch. More than reasonable pricing. Dan's knowledge of the waters (i.e., he went right to the spot he wanted - nobody else was there - although by early afternoon we were surrounded by four other boats) enabled us to reel in fish after fish. Plus, his patience with our young kids (ages 6 - 9) was exemplary. I'll be using Thunderod again next year.
