I've seen just about every office in this place. The one downside is though Dr.Sheffler is amazing,…read morethe front desk doesn't answer. But they have gotten better about it in recent months. Then the blood work department is really good. One stick, in and out, explained everything great. Then I saw the plastic surgeon and he was amazing. Spunky. Explained well. Got this awful cyst off my face. I was awake for the surgery which feels like a flex LOL. His front office staff was great too. The plastic surgeon department was my favorite one. If I ever get this weight off, they're first I'm going to for skin removal LOL! The main complaint thought is definitely the front desk in the Park Manor associates side needing to be better about answering calls. I work front desk, I know it's possible and I've seen them improving drastically- it seems they replaced the old staff with people a little more thrilled for their job. My job is a hotel, the phone is constantly ringing, and I have a million other things to do. And I get paid a fart and a smile (basically nothing is the point), so I get their standpoint but I also question it and have gotten flustered with it because I find they get paid more and are always way less busy then my job- so I don't get the wait times. Coming in and seeing three on staff, one person just twiddling their thumbs, but the phone not stop ringing is a bit off putting. Overall though, through my frustration I stay with this office.

When I tried to speak to the Dr about a refill or an OTC alternative, their secretary told me I'd have to drive over 4hr to talk in person if I wanted any help. I tried to schedule an appointment to come in person, but it got pushed back twice; once I hit month 3 without getting anywhere I switched to a different provider.

******* Sewickley Hospital ****** I have visited this…read morehospital for SEVERAL tests, procedures and two emergancies. The hospital is great but me nor my husband are great fans of their ER. They are nice but not really efficient. I had to visit for a bad migraine. They had to put in an IV to give me fluids. This male nurse came in to give me pain medicine through my IV but failed to warn me that it would be painful. Lets just say I came off the table and ended up in the floor. I was so mad. The nurse then said, "oh yeah, it could sting a little." My thoughts were "REALLY WTF!!!!." lol My husband had to visit the ER for kidney stones recently. They just asked him his symptoms, gave him meds and told him to follow up with his doctor. $100 for that. If you need tests run or bloodwork this facility is great. Apparently Wednesdays is BACON day. HAHA I know this because when my husband was having a procedure done the nurses were all excited that it was Wednesday and they get BACON. lol So a recap: if your loved one needs to have a procedure done schedule it for Wednesday. Although I visited their cafeteria and I didn't think their bacon was good at all. I did enjoy plugging in my laptop and hanging out in the seated area of the cafeteria. It was nice and I got to hear all the chit chatter of negativity from the female nurses. I just tuned them out and surfed away on the wonderful world wide net. ;)

The insurance will continue to pay for the care, if the move is "by doctors orders". Do not let them tell you that you are moving the patient to another institution because insurance will see it as involuntary discharge and will not pay for another admission to a hospital for the same health reason. If you site safety violations, the hospital will move your loved one, at their cost. Do not let them charge your credit card. Call the President's office and demand to talk to the President, when there are safety issues at hospitals you should not have to pay for transport or medical care at or between the institutions. Your loved ones needs for you to look after them. Get a name of a specialist at the new institution and have them admitted under the chosen doctor onto their service at the new hospital. I had a similar situation in Sewickley and my opinion is that the place should be closed down. If you do not have a medical professional in your family then hire one (when someone you love goes into the hospital, any hospital). Yes! It is expensive but it may save their life. The medical professional friend / family members needs to be reviewing charts, diagnosis and treatment plans (with doctors, etc) and ask many questions and don't let them intimidate you. They will indicate that the charts can not be viewed because of HIPAA. Make sure that your loved one either gives permission for the chart review or the Power of Attorney gives permission for the medical records to be reviewed (also get copies). When the Doctor that I spoke with at SVH about their safety issues, they continually repeated "are you threatening me" (threats are illegal). My response was "is that how you are feeling?". Her response was "yes" and I would retort that her "feelings were not my concern, my mother's mistreatment at Sewickley Valley was". Intimidation and diversion tactics may be used when you site safety issues so bring the focus back to transferring the loved one "under doctors orders". My advice is to not go there, at all or DO NOT allow an ambulance to drop your loved ones there. I told SVH to never admit my loved ones.

Father had kidney failure and has been in critical care there for 6 days…read more - General poor communication from staff doctors and nurses. Inconsistent reporting of factual information. -Irrigation bags are not marked with time and date of last change so next incoming shift will know how much was used and next time to change. Seems to be no rigidity to keeping of a schedule. Kind of a "I'll get to it when I notice it" situation. -Still not computerized. Everything done on papaer charts thus increasing potential for written errors. This is huge. -Seem to do a 5 day rotation and you are left to whoever is on call on weekends. -We have a good friend who is at UPMC as well as my niece who has been there every day sitting with my father and the first words out of there mouths when this all started was why is he not at UPMC or AGH. As a nurse my niece has had to help my mom ask questions every day to get a straight story. - Nephrostomy tube was not being flushed and clotted with blood overnight. Nurse told me when we arrived in the am and when I asked when the Dr'. would be in to check this she snapped at me and said he would be in later. My father had to go down to radiology and a Nephrologist had to come in to specifically flush the tube. So my father already in a weakened condition had to have light anesthesia and another procedure when they simply should have been flushing his tube. -When asked about a plan for removing my dad's nephrostomy tube the urologist said it would need to be the nephrologist that would sign off on that and they kept going back and forth as to would sign off. This was on a Monday when the Nephrologist questioned why it was kept in all weekend to begin with. -WAY WAY WAY too many people involved in my father's care -Facility does not have the advanced dialysis equipment to handle getting the very finest pollutants removed from the blood stream. The only reason we did not pick up and have my father moved is because insurance would not allow for him to be moved once he had been admitted. When he goes for his surgery when he is strong enough we will be going to a more competent facility such as AGH or UPMC - Presby.

I, as sole caregiver, despite the repeated and loud requests of my partner, am FORCEFULLY EXCLUDED from the recovery steps MANDATORY BY THE CAREGIVER, and my presence being the ONLY REASON for discharge. THE NURSING STAFF REFUSES TO INCLUDE ME. For the most recent shoulder replacement, the surgeon place a PICO bandage and gave STRICT INSTRUCTIONS IT NOT BE REMOVED FOR 7 DAYS. I did not receive these instructions until 3 days after surgery, via mail with bandages and collagen supply. It ends up, that the nursing staff was displeased, heavily, letting me know with there words and stares, with my partner and I agreeing with a commentator on CNN in her private hospital room. It further ends up the the NURSES RIPPED OFF THE BANDAGE, as my partner recalls being woken from her sleep. The NURSES gave her care instructions EXCLUDING ME HER SOLE CAREGIVER, while she was STILL UNDER HEAVY SEDATION due to what the surgeon said was ~"the maximum legally allowable amount of pain medicine distributed throughout the depth of the incision while proceeding inward to the shoulder bones, layer by layer". he told me that prior to the surgery. The instructions by mail stated : ~"any compromise of the seal or malfunction of the pump MUST BE IMMEDIATELY REPORTED TO THE SURGEON AS AN EMERGENT MATTER" Well, the on-call Office Staff DID NOT LIKE THAT, AND THREATENED PHYSICAL VIOLENCE....a matter already reported to the GPOA board, and pending reporting (awaiting a change of mind on their part, resulting in unlikely efforts to address this issue that they so far ignored with disdain, disparagement, and threats) to the State of Pennsylvania, as REMOVING A PICO BANDAGE WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION OF THE SURGEON WHO PLACED IT IS A CRIMINAL OFFENSE, in most 1st world countries, and most/all US states. You will NOT encounter ANY medical professionals who adhere to the Hippocratic Oath or its principles on the 5th floor of Heritage Valley Sewickley. The picture below is the alleged PICO bandage for which we received the VERY SERIOUS instructions stated above. Heritage Valley Sewickly nurse illegally removed it against Surgeon's (Dr. Kubik) orders. The Surgeon's colleague (Dr. Thomas) was chewed me out for bothering him on a Saturday late morning. He was disparaging, he was denegrating, and he physically threatened me with his PA named Mark, should I pursue this matter any further. I began truly pursuing this matter at that very moment. I wanted to be able to 1) wear a bathing suit for the first time in 2 or 3 years, 2) stand up on the board, and 3) maybe actually paddle the board somewhere. My family went once before, and I was only able to barely get up before I shakily fell down to the great amusement of my children. I'm so thankful to Dakota, my health coach at Allegheny Medical, that I lost 28 pounds, and I was to successfully paddle board standing up pretty much the whole two hours. There were ten of us this morning, and it was so much fun!!!! Personal victory accomplished!
