Came here for dinner tonight because I am staying in the area. As I am here by myself, I wanted a…read moredinner where I could sit and eat alone -- and here was the place! Cocina Asiatica Xin -- which is located in Chueca -- is run by very friendly Chinese gals (as one could guess by the name "xin"). If I could describe the food here in a few words, I'd describe it as "Iberic Asian Fusion". Asian fusion usually caters to the tastes of the nation in which the restaurant is housed. For example, American Asian fusion would be described as heavily soy- and sweet/sour-based. Iberic Asian fusion, as exemplified by this restaurant, seems to play on "sour" theme. This restaurant had a lot of lime, tom-yum, Thai flavors, which surprisingly tasted really good with baked sea bass ("lubina" in Spanish) with mushrooms. It was perfectly steamed with lime, ginger, cilantro, lemongrass, green onion, and probably a touch of tom-yum -- it was pleasant, aromatic, and delectable. The sea bass had just the right texture - soft, supple, and fresh-tasting ("xin-xian").
I didn't order any other items as I was by myself, but I was full off this one dish (I also ordered steamed rice and an Asahi). The service is typical of Europe -- "slow" -- but that's considered as good service. I got seated pretty late in the evening (around 9:30PM) but yet I finished my dinner faster than the other people who got seated way before me. My American mentality kicked in -- get in and get out.
This place is great for dates as many couples came here for their *late* evening dinner. It's also pretty good for a late dinner for one -- and was pretty reasonable, taking into consideration the high standard of living in Europe. All in all -- my meal with rice/beer costed 15.60 euros = 21.49 USD. The food hit the spot, and got me full - so I was very content.
If you don't speak Spanish, but speak Chinese-- you can use Chinese with the people who work there. My Spanish is so-so, so instead I communicated in Chinese instead :) They also accept VISA, despite their doors saying they only accept Diner's and AMEX.
