Also the employees are extremely helpful here. I was able to ask about what plants would do well in shade with a lot of water since there's a spot that doesn't get the best drainage in our yard. Also I accidentally placed my wallet down in all the excitement of looking at plants and I had it returned to me immediately. They have a rewards card where you can get 20% off an item per day which is a great deal. If you don't think you'll be by often and don't want to get the rewards card if you check in on yelp there's a $5 discount. Kyle in the houseplants department just helped me save hundreds of dollars! Instead of buying gallons and gallons of distilled water for my houseplants, he suggested I add a couple drops of aquarium water conditioner to ordinary tap water. This water conditioner will neutralize the chloramine and other substances in tap water that could harm my ferns, calatheas and spider plants to name a few. I also appreciate Kyle's willingness to talk with me about my plant questions and to do some on-the-spot research to come up with reliable answers. read more

What a great experience we had today!! There's nothing we love more than spring and the chance to bring our gardens back to life!! If you're going to the big box stores to buy your plants, dirt, seeds and compost, you're doing yourself and the community a big disservice!! The independent garden centers are where it's at and Tagawa is best in class!! Today I had the pleasure of speaking with an awesome guy named Chris. I've gardened for years but Chris was able to share so much information with us, regarding tomatoes that I was blown away!! This kid was calm, cool and collected and full of knowledge! We even commented that he should have his own YouTube channel! Every time I go to Tagawa there's a "Chris" there to help us be better at our craft and more successful in our garden . We live in 5 points (San Rafael) in downtown Denver so it's a haul for us to make this journey but I look at more like a pilgrimage and look forward to our next adventure! It was our first time at Tagawa. We were thrilled to see the vast selection of plants with employees that were seemingly everywhere to offer help. We picked out two small bushes that I didn't think would be more that $40, a few vegetables and a hummingbird feeder. Our two little bushes ended up being $107/each!! We went ahead with the purchase thinking costs must have risen and we were simply not that knowledgeable about the cost of a small bush. After planting them I decided to look on the internet for more information on care for these pricey little bushes. Imagine my complete shock to see EVERY other store offered them for $39! No question this place has lots of plants and gardening supplies, I just hate feeling ripped off. We won't be back. read more

Nevertheless, I get it and simply find someone older than 20 if I have a serious gardening question. There are some passionate knowledgeable women that have worked at Tagawa for many years. My wife and I had decided to replace an old outdoor water fountain feature in our backyard that was over 20 years old. We met with John Perez who was great to work with. Tagawa Gardens has a nice selection of fountains, but can also order them for you. The fountain we decided on was a Henri Model 4033F2. John also worked with our Contractor to insure the fountain was properly loaded onto our landscaping contractors truck, and then phoned me to keep me updated that the fountain had been handed off to our landscape contractor in good condition. Our Landscape contractor was Reza Landscaping who added a flagstone base for the new fountain, the electrical connections and removed and disposed of our old fountain and installed the new Henri fountain. I can't believe I lived in Centennial for quite some time without having visited Tagawa. Even though I moved towards downtown, I still find it worth it to make the occasional drive down to visit. I feel like I'm fairly into the indoor plant scene and Tagawa really offers affordable and exciting options for my collection. Well organized and fairly spread out, it's easy to browse and find something you're looking for (and better yet, even something you're not). I've had luck simply browsing and finding plants from my wish list here. The past few visits I've spent here, I've noticed an interesting selection of Sansevieria (occasionally including moonshine and black dragon sansevieria)! There seems to almost always be an interesting display of orchids, large and small. And I have been surprised to see quite a few varieties of carnivorous plants here over the past year! Of course, Tagawa also sells pots (and many of which are at good, affordable prices). You're sure to find something in your size/aesthetic goals without costing you too much. And don't forget to check out their clearance section. I've often seen nice quality pots that they're trying to move. Now don't get me wrong, their outdoor plants seem fantastic too, that just wasn't really my focus (but they certainly have a lot of space dedicated to them). As per a very friendly cashier I worked with, you can get 20% off an item in your order if you're a member, which you can easily sign up for online (for free). Even during my first visit, not having known about that, they gave me the discount all the same! If you're in the area you definitely need to stop here and take a gander! Woohoo! As good as it gets! Yes, I agree. Been coming to this place for decades and always loved to check out all the different areas offering so many choices. This place is huge. They have helpers at every corner eager to answer your questions. today's focus was on the hanging plants and checking out the other gems on the way in. Offering of cacti and succulents caught my eyes. Its always calming to mind to see beautiful colors of all arrays in different arrangements. $160 petunia was an eye catcher. The two tiered geranium planter was also very beautiful. It was 100 degrees outside but inside was lot cooler and was very enjoyable experience. read more

Really lovely selection of plants across the board. Everything is in excellent condition. I've always had great success with everything I've bought here. The videos they do online are also wonderful. I have no doubt the people who own and manage the business are very dedicated. I wish the same could be said of the people working here. They are rarely helpful, uninterested and often borderline hostile. At a recent visit I asked no fewer than three people what I thought was a fairly simple question (where can I find sedum?) one told me that I had to ask at one of the "information" desk/hut, so I went to the nearest one. The person there told me I was at the "wrong" shack. Okay. I go to the other one, where two employees proceed to chat about sports *directly* in front of me. Also, my daughter accidentally lost her stuffed dragon while she was there, and I let the staff know when we were leaving. I didn't necessarily have a bad experience here, but it wound up being a waste of time. I came to check out their houseplants and was blown away by their expensive prices! I was laughing to myself as I walked around like "they actually want people to pay $30 for this snake plant or Golden pothos" I live close to Nick's garden center on chambers and LOVE their prices and selection, but thought I'd drive the extra 15 minutes to come here. We just browsed and left, but now I know. I just wanted to let those know, if you come here for house plants... you're getting ripped off. A local grocery store or Nick's will double...maybe triple the amount of plants (depending on what plants) you can get for the same price. In addition, they are not super friendly. After walking around for 20 min, I wasn't greeted or asked if I needed help finding something, despite walking past about 10 or so employees. Finally one lady said high out in the tree/bush area... and then we left! There are better nurseries in the area in my opinion! read more

I visited this past week with my young daughter. The staff at the guest services were very helpful and friendly. They had a good selection of perennials though I think a lot had been bought over the weekend. I asked to see if there would be more inventory at the help desk for that area and I was met with a curt reply, "of course." I tend to feel like I don't know what I am doing in nurseries and this attitude made me feel somewhat unwelcome and not very smart. Maybe I am being sensitive but she was not helpful at all. I hope to go back and find more plants for my school's pollinator garden and get more help than before. read more

I have mixed feelings about Tagawa. First, the things I like. They have high quality plants and a knowledgable staff that thoroughly understands the product. For these reasons I really want to work with Tagawa and return. The problem - time and time again they seem to have notable issues putting that great product and staff together with how they run their business. Things that should be easy seem to be far more difficult than necessary. Today for example, I went there needing a lot of plants for a major landscaping renovation to xeriscape our yard. After more than an hour working with their staff to sort out what would be more than $3,000 in plants, I said that I wanted them delivered. That was a problem though as their nearest delivery date was a month away. That's right - a full month to get the plants delivered. Nor did the staff in question seem at all flustered by this, instead making excuses and blaming everyone but Tagawa for their inability to deliver their sold product to the client. Now I believe that a business that sells extremely large items, things like trees for example, should be prepared for the fact that their customers might need delivery. If you force customers to wait a month then all of that great product and excellent knowledge is suddenly far less valuable to the customer. This is just one example. From my experience Tagawa seems to have a number of frustrating problems with how they run their business. They have a loyalty program for example where the more you buy, the less of a percentage discount you get. You get a higher discount if you go back every day to buy smaller parts of the same order, but of course that is hardly efficient for the customer (nor for Tagawa.) I am happy to pay the premium prices for the excellent product, but I would rather do so without the added difficulties of disjointed business management that drops the ball just before the goal line. Kudos to your floor staff, but please support them properly with an improved business infrastructure. read more

This past weekend, my wife and I, made our annual trek to a nursery for flowers to beautify our patio and deck. This year we did all our purchasing from Tagawa Gardens. In two days, we spent just north of $1,100, in two separate visits. On the second visit, I told the clerk I had "x" number of each item. Although I told her this, she still scanned each individual piece. I wasn't sure if she just didn't trust me, or if there was another reason. As she began to scan the sweet potato vine I told her I had a total of 12 and she replied "oh, I trust you, but they are different prices". I was a bit confused because they were identical and came from the same area. When I asked her to explain, she said "we buy from different growers and some use more fertilizer and other things, so they cost more." I replied "there is nothing on the table where I picked them from that indicates this" She said "no, there isn't. We would like management/owners to do this to avoid these type of situations, but they just won't" "but you're lucky, most of what you picked are at the lower price." So......this is our last trip to Tagawa Gardens. Beware that what you think you're getting for one price might not be the case. You pick an item, such as sweet potato vine, and just pay, not knowing that you've just prey to Tagawa"s sneaky little scheme. Tagawa Mgmt. you should really be ashamed of yourself!!! (UPDATE) I received a reply from the manager, Beth, via yelp as well as personal email. I think it is only fair to update this review. She explained what had transpired and the issues that led to the experience we had, as explained in my initial review. As both in life and in business, misunderstandings and misinterpretations can cause confusion and chaos. Most importantly, she was apologetic and listened to suggestions as possible ways to avoid similar situations in the future. During these unprecedented times, I believe it is only fair that all businesses, large, small, local or national need not just our support, but our understanding and forgiveness as well. read more

I love the plants at Tagawa's. The plants are such good quality. I was so excited to see Tagawa's was having a Spring sale. Unfortunately even though it said most everything was on sale, that was not the case. It was not clear what exactly was on sale and when I asked if a particular plant was on sale I was told no and "Why would they have that plant on sale when it was so popular to plant in the Spring " I found their sale advertisement misleading and very cumbersome to have to ask each time if that plant was on sale. read more

Tagawa Gardens is my second favorite garden store in the greater Denver area. They have a large selection of fairy garden items, houseplants, perennials and trees. The staff is always helpful and I usually walk out with more than I intended to buy (there's always something cool). They have the best prices I've found anywhere on several different kinds of moss for making arrangements or re-potting orchids. My only complaint is that in general their prices are kind of high, even for a nice nursery. I usually go as a special treat to myself or when they have a sale. Speaking of which, if you're looking for some nice trees, they have an end of season sale every year! Last year I got four trees including a peach and a plum tree. Spent over $60 and the entire plant was so soaked it got everywhere in my car. The garden center overwatered it to the point that within 2 weeks the entire plant had rotted. I was amazed that they had not only a coffee/cookie place but another burger/hot dog stand as well! And trust me, if you haven't eaten before coming here, you might need sustenance to make your way all the way through this gigantic nursery! Tons of variety, Great prices, Quality plants. What more could you ask for? The prices on other things are great too. I saw an adorable Fairy Garden Arbor for $20. I saw the exact same one at City Floral for $50. I am continually impressed with the selection and the hardiness of their flowers and plants. They announced a tomato gardening class for kids last time I as there! I wish I would give this place 4.5 stars. I love it here! Tagawa really knows what they're talking about and has a good selection of plants, srubs, tress, flowers, etc... We had one of our contractor trees die and needed to replace it. Tagawa did the trick. Now, for the minus .5 star. They are expensive so be prepared. They also have a loyalty program that has to be setup before you can properly use it. For instance, we bought a $500 tree which has a 1 year warranty. Now normally if we needed the tree replaced within that first year it would be on our loyalty card. But since we signed up when we bought the tree we are no responsible for keeping the physical receipt for the tree in a safe place. Not the end of the world but a bit annoying that our largest purchase there isn't captured on the card. Overall though an amazing place! read more

We stopped in here over the weekend to get our herbs and a boxwood. Normally we wouldn't drive so far but we had a gift card. I could not believe how crowded it was! I assume it had a lot to do with the holiday weekend but I was still surprised. They do have an incredible selection and I was happy to see several organic herb options. It's definitely a lot more expensive than Home Depot or even Whole Foods. Expect to pay 20% more on virtually everything. I love going to this place and my boyfriend and his family come to their classes all the time. It's a great community-based business that offers a wide variety of informational classes and fun kid-centered activities. Their selection of plants is outstanding! I could spend over an hour here (and I have many times) just browsing around the different plants they offer. I've gone to other nurseries and none of them have the same quality AND variety of plants Tagawa does. I've received plants from here as gifts as well as gifted some plants from this place to loved ones. All of my experiences here have been lovely. Honestly, it seems like the people complaining about the staff here just seem like people who are overall disgruntled with any human interaction. If you are polite, they will be polite back to you. Like if the cashier is giving you advice on how to take care of your plant, they just want to set you off on the best foot to take care of it - I highly doubt it's from a condescending place. I will say though, I did get a coffee plant here that had mealybugs. We quarantined it and were vigilant about inspecting it every day for the first two weeks. Pest infestations can occur when it comes to living things like plants. I've never encountered another problem from this place aside from that mealybug hiccup (which could have happened in any nursery). The prices can be kinda steep but just be smart and buy when they have sales going on and join their rewards program. You will get 20% off your highest item price once a day AND it helps with their mission statement of sustainability. read more

I wanted some Rhubarb. That is it. . .and this place had it I would say that this will be pricer than places like Home Depot and Lowels but the selection (and help) is that much better. Very much like the difference between a Wal-Mart and a local niche olive oil store. I got my rhubarb with instructions on how to take care of it. We will see if it works out. . . The place is a large "indoor" (Mostly) greenhouse. Rows upon rows of plants of various types, sizes, and climates. There is a section/area for private events/training/education as well Outdoors - on a saturday - there were a couple vendors selling services/food (Tamale vendor and a knife sharpener) The placed seemed pricey so I don't doubt the "expect to pay 20% more" remarks. Tagawa is my favorite nursery and garden center in the Front Range. They carry the latest and newest proven varieties for the Denver area in plants flowers trees and shrubs and roses. When spring comes, I love to head out here because it awakens my soul - free classes from master gardeners and community experts on everything you need to know from fruit trees and roses to vegetable gardens. If I need to know anything about proper plan teen to which plants will do best with my exposure, I receive expert advice and you will too. We recently redid our front yard landscape design and when I shopped at Tagawa I knew that I was getting not only a good quality plant that they would stand behind, but one selected specifically for this area instead of going to a big box store and getting something shipped out from clear across the country without the Denver area and high-altitude in mind. But hands-down my favorite area of Tagawa is the Rose department and it's all because of "Tagawa Tom" who is the manager of the department and a rose guru! He hand selects hundreds of varieties and colors of roses specifically proven to do well in the Denver area and in high-altitude. As a former landscape designer, his expert opinion in invaluable with color and layout design for your roses and as a former president of Rose societies, he knows his stuff and consult of your rose problems and fill your rose needs like he has mine. On occasion I will look at other nurseries but for my roses I will shop at no other place because of "Tagawa Tom" read more

We shopped at Tagawa a couple of times for miscellaneous annuals and garden tomatoes and were impressed with the huge selection. When the time (finally!) came to start shopping for flowers, shrubs, and trees for our newly-landscaped front yard, we came here first. We spent lots of time looking around and got plenty of advice from a most helpful employee. We chose three different types of evergreen shrubs and planted them. They looked fabulous! Two out of the three are still doing great but the third one begun to turn brown and pretty much died in less than two months. So we dug the poor little thing up and took it back. We had our receipt so the return process was relatively painless. Tagawa will give you a one time exchange or return for store credit within the first year after purchase. If you kill the replacement plant, that's on you. Pretty fair, wouldn't you say? We spoke to one of the garden experts and he gave us some tips on what we may have been doing wrong. Unfortunately, that exact same shrub was unavailable but we found something similar but slightly more expensive. But with my rewards card, we got 20% off the exchange and ended up with a new shrub and $17 in store credit. Yes, Tagawa has a rewards program! Read closely because the rewards are themed in tribute to the mascot cats roaming about the store. Purr-furred Guests receive 20% off one item per day. After spending a certain dollar amount (or maybe it's just on certain days, I'm really not sure), Purr-furred Guests receive Kitty Kash that can be spent on your next visit but only during a limited time-frame (if you're familiar with Kohl's Cash, it's the same concept). The only downside for us is the distance we have to travel to get there. When we figure in travel time and shopping around, it's basically half the morning. Though time consuming, we find the quality of the plants, the varied inventory, and the helpfulness of the friendly and knowledgeable staff to be worth the trip. read more
