I am the biggest taco connoisseur ever!! So when I heard there was a pop-up museum dedicated solely to tacos, I had check it out. LOCATION - Smacked in Downtown Santa Monica. This is such a perfect location because you're in a beach city with plenty of things to do! You can eat, shop, with the beach and pier being merely steps away. I would suggest spending a whole day here so you can just enjoy and soak everything in. PARKING - HORRIBLE. What do you expect from beach parking? There are several parking garages around the blocks, but they're all pretty pricey. COST - $32.25/per person including service fee ATTRACTION - I've been to a fair share of pop-ups, but this by far is the most disappointing one I ever been to. There were about 8 little rooms that you can walk through, with different colorful installations relating to tacos somehow. Some were just aesthetically pleasing for Instagram and others were more interactive like the taco see-saw and the big guacamole bowl that you can jump into. I was really sad that the mechanical taco bull was not working when I came. They were all pretty corny, but I'll give them a B for creativity. The freebies you are given are one single ticket to a free taco from this restaurant down the block (this actually tasted really good), one jarritos soda bottle, and mini cholula hot sauce and tortilla chips to try. OVERALL - I had such high hopes for this place since it revolved around my greatest love (tacos). But, WHAT YOU PAY IS NOT WORTH THE EXPERIENCE YOU GET. I was expecting so much more!! You can basically walk through the whole museum in less than half an hour. It also looks like they change the installations every so often, because the ones I was looking forward to seeing from Instagram were not there when I went. Boo. My dog and I went to both this pop up and the PetPop Popup in the same week as they were both dog friendly. If I was going to return to one, I would return to the PetPop one instead. Yes, I LOVE tacos and pop ups, but this seemed lackluster. It is located right at 3rd Street Promanade, so if you are planning on coming here, plan to spend a day out in Santa Monica because the traffic coming and leaving here is horrendous. Going on a weekday, I was able to find parking pretty much right by the entrance! Metered parking was $2.50/hr and I spent barely an hour in the display. Dog friendly time is Mondays after 3pm. I bought the 3pm time slot as I wanted to avoid traffic and did not want to be back home super late. However, "small dogs and service dogs" are allowed at all times. I would had preferred to go right when they opened, but after 3pm it was. Dogs are free and I believe a ticket is $25/person. The space itself is pretty small actually. Each of the photo displays is not actually a room. In fact, it's one BIG room with section dividers up. I would prefer separate rooms for a more in-depth experience. I was not as impressed with the visual displays as I was with PetPop. My favorite displays were the "make tacos, not war", the guacamole bowl, and the fighting ring. My dog also did not seem to enjoy Tacotopia as much as he enjoyed PetPop. He seemed to really enjoy that one, and this one, it seemed like he just wanted to leave. The space feels very tight. Healthy Spot was present during doggy hour to give out some freebies and samples for your dog. When my dog and I went, we were the ONLY people there. Each person gets a bottle of jarrito, a coupon for a free taco (which expires 8/31/19), and a mini bottle of hot sauce. I did not even get to try the taco, although the pictures looked good. The taco place is across the street, but it is in a food hall, located upstairs... so I cannot take my dog into places like that. If it was at street level, then I could run and redeem it, but not when it is located upstairs. The gift shop area is tiny and had nothing of interest to me. They also don't seen to turn the air on and I was sweating!! It was so hot in the place!! Probably another reason why my dog was not enjoying himself and just wanted to leave. Who wants to take pictures when you are sweating and feel gross!! Anyways, the idea is cute, but execution was poor. Also, driving to Santa Monica sucks as it took me over an hour to drive there and 2.5 hrs to get back home!! read more

It's a lot of fun once you get inside and there are so many clever and fun ways to take pictures that are all taco themed. I saw a lot of cute sponsored ads on Instagram and I was convinced to go. This was totally worth it. Not only were there many cute photo opportunities, there was also free cholula, free jarritos, a free taco bull ride, and a delicious free taco. This was super fun! I would give Tacotopia 3.5 stars, located at the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica. I was late for my ticket time but they did not mind and all staff that I encountered was extremely nice, helpful and generous, which I thank and truly appreciate that service. I just thought it was way too small. I like that they had multiple "rooms" with various backgrounds for your social media, but it was too cramped and tight. If a big group was ahead of you, your in trouble since it is hard to walk by as all rooms are relatively small and next to each other. This is not my first time with pop-ups so I knew what I was getting into. We received free drinks and ate tortilla chips and received a coupon for 1 free taco at Azule, which is down the street. The highlight for me would be jumping into a green soft plush that represents "GUAC." In addition, riding a mechanical taco was pretty spectacular. I got tickets for my sister and I because she has an obsession with tacos; so what better way to spend time together than at a taco installation pop up. I was expecting a bit more. It was more like a colorful child's play pen. The taco theme was prevalent on each set up and room, but I wasn't feeling it. I didn't think it was worth the price and time. BEWARE, this event is NOT OPEN FOR ALL POSTED TIMES. Purchased tickets to attend Tacotopia in Santa Monica on Sunday, Sept 1, 2019. Website said they opened at 11am. We arrived and waited until 12noon, still not open. Others who had purchased tickets were waiting too. Went to eat lunch nearby and came back around 2:30pm. Still not open, so we gave up. What a big fat joke!!!! This is a huge waste of money and time. It's a bunch of Installations side by side down 2 hallways. Each one was separated by a partition. Very poorly made. Tacotopia was so much fun!!!! I forgot how many little rooms they had, but each one was so cute! We stayed for an hour. Definitely Instagram worthy. ;) and definitely worth the price! You can enjoy this place with your family, friends, coworkers, or significant other! Each room was very bright and colorful. They also had a taco thing you could ride. My boyfriend went on it and totally fell, it was hilarious. The only negative thing I could say is that I wish Tacotopia had better lighting tho. It was a tad bit dark in some of the pictures my boyfriend and I took. It's okay though. Most of our pictures turned out great! I would give it a 3/4 star but we can't give half stars.. it is a really cute place to check out but it was really small. I wish it were bigger then I would feel like I got my monies worth. You do get a free small hot sauce, one drink and a free taco with your admissions but since the place was so small we finished up rather quickly. We had no idea it was so close to Santa Monica pier and shopping and eatery so that was kind of a bonus. This place is awesome!!! You'll spend about an hour here and there are sections upon sections of exhibits, each one unique and filled with instagramable activity! Definitely bring the instagrammer in your life here! If you're someone who hates their photo being taken, go elsewhere. This is a great place to kill some time, be a big kid, and enjoy all that makes tacos great! You get some chips and hot sauce and a mini hot sauce bottle for free! There's a mechanical taco for you to ride, too! My ONLY complaint was that contrary to what the amazingly charismatic front desk personnel said, the employees scattered throughout the exhibits were NOT enthused to take our photos and generally appeared to hate their life while they were there. At one point I asked one what their favorite pose was for the tipsy bar exhibit and she rather bluntly said "I don't know, I don't do this." Then man operating the mechanical bull may have cracked if he smiled, and the woman manning the chips bar said maybe 1/2 a word to us. I'm not going to burrito around the bush here because there's so much to taco about. TacoTopia was awesome! This is nachos typical pop up because in addition to the staff being awesome it was just a one of kind experience that brings you out of your shell. All the different rooms were great to smile, say cheese and take pictures in. The mechanical taco was by far my favorite part so when you go I highly recommend you taco walk on the wild side. I would highly recommend everyone to go visit Tacotopia. I went last month and had a blast! There were so many incredible displays. Displays where you can move around and take fun photos. Very bad service. I brought my kids here and when they were playing around at the ring toss the lady working there at the time was being very rude. One of my kids wanted to see one of the flavors of the sodas that were on display and the lady working there assumed she was trying to steal the drink. She went to one of the other people working there and told them what happened and we were told that we would be kicked out of that happens again.
